Sandy waves off his mother as she leaves the house for her mysterious date. Her familiar guides her away through the streets of Stormwind. “Love is in the air” is in the air.

As he steps back inside, the young man slams the door shut. He’s happy for Ekorenine. Genuinely. But he’s also, so, so terribly jealous. Why does his old mother get a date for these festivities, and he doesn’t have one anymore? Dark tendrils begin to swirl around his feet as he steps back towards his room.

Sandy goes back to his desk, to finish writing his letter.

“Dear Gwenivene,” it reads.

That’s it. That’s all he was able to write.

The words just simply don’t come to him the way the thoughts and feelings do.

“I love you,” he writes. “I miss you. Please come back.”

Without realizing it, Sandy fully slips into his shadowform, the darkness around him growing ever stronger.

He could just cast a spell; voices whisper to him. He could see through her eyes, just for a moment. Just to know what she’s doing. If she has a date for tonight. He could do it so easily, with his new powers. It’s not wrong. He just wants to make sure she’s okay. That she’s not too happy without him. Maybe that she feels as nostalgic as he does.

The priest looks up, and sees Bubble the rat, sleeping on his desk. She’s growing weak by the days, and Sandy knows he’ll lose her soon, too. Just one more thing leaving his side, the voice whispers again. It’ll never end.

Instinctively, Sandy begins to recite his Mind Vision spell. For a moment, he could know what Gwenivene is doing. Just for a moment.

A knock on the door interrupts him. Who disturbs him in a moment such as this one? Who would dare? The whispers grow stronger, fueling an unreasonable rage. His chair falls behind him as he gets up, waking up Bubble and Dragon from their slumber.

The shadows fill the room in darkness, following his every step. As he closes in on the door, Sandy hears the knock again. His hand wraps around the handle, turns, and opens the door violently.

“Hey. Florendine let me in,” a voice pierces through the whispers, resounding louder than them in his head. For a moment still, the shadows cloud his vision.

His father stands right before him. Sandy’s eyes widen, and his shadowform slowly begins to crack open.

“I wanted to talk,” Therald says. “… we wanted to talk,” he specifies.

Lyra pops her head out of Therald’s backpack. “This room reeks of the void. This just will not do, Sandy. We desperately need to let some fresh air in. Now, where is Bubble? We have much to talk about.”

Sandy’s eyes move from the man to the dragon. His gaze just can’t stay on either of them, whether it’s out of shame or happiness.

“Dad… Lyra…” His eyes well up, and his shadowform completely vanishes. The young man throws himself in his father’s arms and bursts into tears.

“All—All right. I’m here now, buddy,” Therald awkwardly says. Trying to stop his own tears from overflowing.

“… Buddy, really? You really are your son’s father,” Lyra scoffs.
