A letter arrives addressed to Almeiria, written in Common with a plain, simple hand. Tucked in with it is a dried and flattened red rain poppy, giving the paper a pleasant scent.
Almeiria Fey,
How have you been since Tol Barad? Are Ilanya and her private alright? I should probably have asked that before seven months went by, but sometimes time flows fast and I get distracted. I hope Kyris and Niksi are doing ok, too, sword-singing and sea-diving. I don’t know if you might have seen them lately. Anyway, I was fighting Horde at the coast of Pandaria the other day, and it reminded me of the times we have spent fighting together.
The feelings of the land reminded me, too. I am sure you remember. In Vashj’ir, there were the mean whispers. In Tol Barad, there was death in the air. Something that made spirits and bodies rest uneasily. Here in Pandaria, in the Wilds, there is a kind of poisonous sorrow that nestles in the land and water and air. It pulls living people down – I saw it pull down a village and a Red Crane temple, too. We had to help them break its hold on them. The people here call it sha, and it is real and dangerous, just like the other things.
The people here are interesting, too. The pandaren are very calm and cheerful, most of the time. The jinyu fish people are wary, but less so now that they know we are friends. There are others who are less friendly, but it is not so simple. Hozen can be chaotic and destructive, but there are some who are not like that at all. One helped us figure out how to drive out sha. Even within a group, people can be so different.
Then there are saurok, which we thought were simply enemies. But then, we learned that they were enslaved by the mogu, an ancient race, just like the pandaren were. They fought to survive, and I think they are hostile now because they learned along the way not to trust. I can see how if a person gets used to others being cruel or false, they would think the best way to protect themselves is to keep them at a distance. Either with violence or more subtle ways. I can see that it makes sense sometimes, but also sometimes it can prevent becoming friends, when the other people aren’t cruel or false.
So yes, it was the Horde fighting that reminded me of you, but we’ve been told we’re not supposed to have a war on Pandaria. From the wolfriders on the coast, it’s starting to look like it might happen anyway, so I thought maybe you would want to know that. I hope you’re not annoyed to get this letter.
