Duchess Avrenne Esprit Fallon Admiral Siamus Fallon

October 17th, Year 29

Dearest Siamus, Most admired Admiral,

The whole of the house is well as of the receipt of your letter, and I am most glad that I can report a successful closing of the 3rd quarter. I have included for your perusal a summary and comparison of previously expected estimates to actual, and the early projections for next quarter in regards to resource investment projections in particular. The greater details will await your return for noting all the precise figures, and I will be pleased to add in any context you might wish to have with any deeper inspection on your desk.

I expect that your assessment of the best course for both the Alliance and Pandaria in regards to a greater commercial use will be seen as reasonable sense by all parties involved, and with the current state of the operation, an imminent necessity to mutual benefit. I have assembled a list of craftsmen I have reason to believe are the best suited in temperament, availability, and ability for work abroad, and will be presenting it for approval to the pandaren portal minders.

The call for healers is outside my purview of knowledge, but I will speak to Lord Ference, as between him and his wife, they should be able to make strong recommendations and encouragements, and given Cobalt Company’s position for easier individual deployment, these healers may arrive in better numbers than what we may eventually be able to send when the rest of the military force arrives, and I agree with you that expediency will serve us best in the long run.

I will also speak with Lukas regarding the potential for any of the harvest witches who might have another perspective on how to approach the difficulty of the land corruption that is not fel, not quite shadow, but other. This does assume that there are some who are not currently working in Surwich, or who can be pulled away from the work. It is my understanding that there have been more concerns to address that necessitated additional help, including somewhat unexpectedly, Lord Cecil Soso of the Redridge Sosos, who I believe has become involved through the late Lieutenant Boles’ sister Oslynn Boles (who also goes by Gravehowl). Lady Merelda will back in Stormwind when duty permits, and hope to obtain more details on the matter at her earliest convenience.

As far as other options, I think it may be prudent to speak with shamans and druids with experience in land healing, and I will ensure that the effort to encourage their assistance in Pandaria is begun as soon as possible.

The report of the current efforts in Pandaria have been having an effect here in the political circles of those who know the details, and I expect it will come as no surprise to you that the news of your and Sir Dane Atley’s report has slowed rather than increased the speed of the organized response, as now there are loud calls from certain parties who would spend precious response time in debating the proper particulars – as well as proposals for additional leadership abroad that better suit their political agendas rather than possessing significant military skill to handle the situation – and taking little advisement from those with better, clear knowledge to act to contain the spread of this corruption with our new allies. Lord Ference, Lord Tennerow, and Lord Lysander hold the line admirably of truly sound military advisement, and while they may not yet be able to send relief any sooner, they will prevent the addition of an unnecessary powder keg to add to the volatile situation in Pandaria, and that is at least some victory.

Finley reports that the tittle-tattle among both the upper echelon and the common folk reveal that there have been fewer leaks of privileged information than other times, suggesting that the rooting out of traitors and cultists has had a notable effect, and the general understanding is only that there has been some conflict with the Horde abroad, and that the Alliance is handling it accordingly. At present, the populace has no notion of any immediacy or danger, and while we have seen therefore a slowing in recruitment to the military, the sense of calm and relative peace has increased commerce and improved movements of local infrastructure.

I must admit that I was surprised to hear the account of Admiral Taylor in action, and I do wonder if his understanding of command as an Admiral was not influenced unduly by the late Admiral Dvorek’s methods of handling situations, and if he might find an improvement in how to assess and operate in a more balanced boldness and caution under another mentorship of a peer to better guide him as he establishes himself with his new rank.

It does also call to mind that we once more find ourselves with the necessity to promote within the navy to replace both Admiral Stonewall and Admiral Aubrey, though at present we don’t have the ships to properly outfit the command of another single admiral, let alone two, and so we are spared the need for immediate promotions without due consideration and the proper authorities to argue effectively on who would be best suited for the roles.

I am glad to hear Ralaea has been well and learning more of her heritage of the sea, and I will be speaking to her tutors for a new curriculum that will better incorporate incentives for applications of spherical trigonometry, although I must admit that I have no suggestions myself, as I would think that the material’s inherent appeal is as metrically apparent as the lunes in the sky.

As for how we might conceal the boys’ efforts in walking, perhaps all that might be necessary is to ensure that Shine and Mrs. Shine have a precisely timed extra honeymoon, should the deployment end before such time. Although, I am not certain that the boys’ walking days are not to be soon upon us. Elliot has progressed from a rigorous crawl into pulling himself up – with assistance of furniture, or a sturdy leg as Vane has discovered by standing still long enough – and he wobbles along a step or two with such determination that I think he will soon let go of these handholds and stride off on his own power. Eamon is, as before, a little behind his brother, but following assuredly, and Vane does have two legs for their experimentations. I am told that ten-months is not unheard of for some children, and that they may be influenced by Ery’s demonstrations of her mobility.

Ery has declined to produce another artwork for your amusement, but she and I worked on the folding construction of a small navy of paper boats (as I do not believe it is ever too early to begin the mathematics of practical applications of geometric exercises in paperfolding sequences, or the construction of a proper navy). We spoke of you, and I gave updates on your progress as appropriate to speak of to a child, and she almost managed the full word of Admiral, and I am sure you will be pleased at her verbal progress when you are next home. She has allowed for the inclusion of our flagship in this letter, but I must say that she expects you to return it to her after you are done with it “now.” She kissed it thrice, and I am not entirely certain if it was in affection or a claim on the boat, and when I asked, she only slapped her arms down on the desk emphatically. So, it remains a mystery.

The dress of the silk you sent has been finished into a design suitable for the upcoming charity social, and as it turned out, there was enough for another garment that I think you will find pleasing in another way, and so I have commissioned the artworks spoken of before with each. As soon as the paintings are completed to satisfaction, I shall send them.

Isla has been diligently attending to her needlework for the first time in several months in preparation for wearing something to the event. She has selected a costume from a book of collected Gilneas folktales from her friend Mr. Thaniel Clay, and is quite excitable on the subject. She has also selected a costume for Finley, who is not excitable on the subject.

I have placed the jade rabbit in the Little Parlour, as it is pleasing to the eye, and I am often there. Isla has been taken with an especial fondness for the creature. She has named it, but as she has changed her mind on the name repeatedly, I could not tell you what name it currently has. In truth, it is the only type of animal that I find agreeable to be housed indoors, and though I find its temperament pleasing, you can be certain that it will not be following me to our bed.

If I tell you that I did enjoy the Kun Lai tea, but that I found it difficult to contain a certain amount of sentiment in drinking it, to so recall a particular taste in my mouth at this flavor, that you will understand my meaning. I have rather selfishly hoarded the tea for myself, but I expect you will purchase more for the house to have when you return, and I will find it easier to share with the rest when I have another source of this flavor at hand.

You must also know that there could never be a paucity of gifts from you, not when the greatest one that pleases me most are the words in the letter themselves, and that I am never unaware of all the gifts I already possess in our beautiful home, with our lovely children. To number a gift received with a letter is only to pull out a single constellation for observation and the pleasure it affords to see it, and it is set among the hundreds of thousands of stars with all the rest that you house me among.

I continue to shine for you with those stars, and keep the star moss in bloom, my sailor.

With fondness and admiration,
Your wife,
Avrenne Esprit Fallon

PS: I hope that you will enjoy Finley’s art once more, which he was pleased to provide as an example of three mediums he has been working on. I must admit I was rather particular as to the number of blooms, but I believe each petal is as precious as a page in a book, and precision is an excellent study for each entry, as I am sure you will agree.

PPS: As you might have surmised, as the token was not returned, I have given Lukas an answer.

[Included with the letter is a summary of the Q3 reports, as well as several integral calculus calculations demonstrating Avrenne’s current evaluation of performances of investments in projection markets based on new data points. It is scented with lotus oil.

There is a small paper boat, flattened for transport. It smells vaguely of sea salt and toddler possessiveness.

Also finally is a bit of art of three flowers, maybe it's just normal art.]
