Hello Liar,
I'm confidant than no matter what I say, you'll just make up whatever story suits you. Fortunately for you, I'm high as a kite right now, so this is amusing me.
You see, the thing is that we kaldorei already had a great big symbol of eternity called the World Tree. So when the snakes applied for that role, they were roundly rejected and asked to come back with a better pitch that didn't step on anyone else's toes.
Well, that kind of offended the snakes, who don't have toes, let alone feet to step on anyone else's. So, they were like "screw eternity, let's be something cooler". They checked the Big Book of Cool Symbolism to see what wasn't already taken. Turns out pretty much all the cool stuff was already taken. Because it was cool.
Then this one smart snake hissed, "Hey, what if we just became the symbol of cool itself?" Everyone clapped. Or they would have if they had hands. Instead they mostly just wiggled.
When the snakes reapplied to be the symbol of cool, the kaldorei Council of What Stuff Means was stumped. Technically, there was nothing in the rules that prevented it. They were forced to approve the application, and henceforth snakes were really cool.
But, you see, since the snakes had become the symbols of cool without anything more substantial to support that coolness, in time they came to be seen as a shallow representation of cool. That's why the naga and the Druids of the Fang turned into snakes. They thought they were cool, but they're actually just posers.
