Duchess Avrenne Esprit Fallon Ralaea Admiral Siamus Fallon

26 August 28

To the Duchess Avrenne Esprit, Lady Fallon,
Your Grace,

I have the glad task of reporting that we were today able to rescue a number of our missing personnel from the sea floor, including Captain Taylor and his surviving SEALF troops, as well as sundry other Alliance soldiers and the entire complement of Cobalt Company members. Our relief must be tempered with a measure of grief, however, as our efforts were unfortunately incomplete; some number of our people have already been lost to the naga and the tides. Those who remain are now safe aboard the fleet and receiving appropriate care where needed.

Knockfathom was instrumental in the rescue, as she devised a second communication device with which the survivors were able to signal their precise location; it is my understanding that Cobalt’s contingent was in general of disproportionate aid to our cause. It is regrettable that the late Admiral Dvorek failed to appreciate the full measure of their talent — and Captain Taylor’s reasonable counsel — as he might have spared our people considerable loss of life, not least his own.

The rescue is merely the first part of what will have to be a much larger operation, Tol Barad notwithstanding. We have confirmation from the survivors that the naga do indeed intend to invade the elemental plane of water and usurp the Tidehunter Neptulon; they mean to install their Queen Azshara in his place, elevating her to an elemental throne and giving them dominion over the seas.

They are, it seems, aided in this endeavor by the Twilight’s Hammer. The servants of the Old Gods are massing with the naga forces at the Abyssal Maw in preparation for the siege. They have also mastered in some manner the kraken which attacked our ships, and the beast still roams these waters. We are obliged to hunt and destroy it, as well as to put a stop to the naga and this mad cult.

To that end, I and the Lady Blanche remain here. The better part of the action will occur underwater, but we will lend what surface support we are able. It is additionally likely that we will be called to defend those beneath the sea; the Horde fleet has taken up a position nearby. Cantlebree has negotiated a truce for the duration of rescue efforts in the area, but whether Hellscream’s Horde can be relied upon to honor it is an open question.

On a personal note, I intend to discover whether I might be granted some measure of the shamanic blessing that Cobalt’s people received, and venture below myself. Miss Coit has expressed an interest in accompanying me; as a warlock, she is possessed of further water-breathing magics. I will be leaving my sea stalk aboard.

At the end of this week there should be a delivery to the house from Aines at the shipyard; it contains gifts both for Ery and for Ralaea. Kindly see that they receive them.

I trust that you and the children are well. You are in my thoughts.

With warmest regards,
Your husband,
V. Adm. Siamus Fallon

Included with this letter is a bouquet of blue salvia, white periwinkle, red hyacinth, and a straggling, weedy-looking consortium of dill, dragon root, and everlasting pea.

Ralaea -

I am writing to inform you that we have safely recovered your Cobalt Company comrades from under the sea, including your friend Lieutenant Hazan and his wife, Lady Ismene. Everyone is in good health and reasonably good spirits. Lieutenant Hazan and Miss Coit both send their greetings to you.

The Lieutenant’s White Squad will remain here for the present time, as they are committed to seeing through the battle with the naga, and they intend to hunt the kraken that attacked our ships.

I trust that you continue your training, and that in my absence you will make sure the Duchess is well. If you have time and are willing, I would be glad if you would walk with Ery to the seaside occasionally; it is too long a walk for Her Grace to manage in her present condition, and Ery prefers not to go with her nurse. I am certain she would rather go with you.

Warm regards,
V. Adm. Fallon
