Summary: Cressidha, who is not on a squad this time around, writes a letter to her friend Zath Tyrrell. ~700 words.
Rating: T for Teen
Cressidha Aspenwood Captain Zath Tyrrell, 7th Legion, 6th E.U.

[ Enclosed in this letter is a copy of Cobalt's newsletter. Also enclosed is a handkerchief made of a square of cloth that seems to shift colors depending on the lighting. By default it is a gleaming red, but a magical shimmer passes traces of blue and purple and green across the fabric. In moonlight, it turns a glimmering blue-white, like Elune's moonfire. It is monogrammed "Z.T." in the bottom left corner. ]

Dear Zath,

No doubt you have seen a copy of the King's notice about Mt. Hyjal. I have enclosed a copy of Cobalt Company's newsletter that contains slightly worse news: the Twilight's Hammer has managed to summon Ragnaros after all. The Captain has sent Blue Squad to respond: Sir Dane Atley the Red, my brother Colson, the druid Caspis Silvershade, the shaman Azizia, and Velrin Silverbloom, who you may recall was the alchemist who provided a sleep aid to you during the siege of Wintergarde.

I am not among them.

I have been serving among Cobalt Company's squads since their formation, bouncing back and forth between Blue and White on occasion for some years now. After the defeat of the Lich King, and the loss of my older brother Amadeus to Deathwing's attack on Stormwind, I thought it best that I take some time away from field work to rest and work through some of the emotions surrounding the Scourgewar and Amadeus' loss. Captain Jocoza was very supportive of this request.

I need the time to recover, I believe, and I hate that I do. I imagine, from what I know of you and your close connection to your unit, that you may understand better than most.

Is the 7th Legion likely to dispatch you to Mt. Hyjal, do you think? I no longer get any insider knowledge about the 7th Legion's movements now that Bertrand has retired from service.

It has been over a year since you gave me that beautiful bolt of auroraweave, and I fear it may be time to admit that I have made no significant progress in replicating the process. The closest my team has gotten has been taking primal mooncloth to the Azure Dragonshrine and letting a spellfire-specialized tailor attempt to turn it into spellweave, which has given our test cloth a very erratic magical pattern. While perhaps pretty in and of itself, it does not match the target color of the original, and has proven very resistant to being enchanted further.

The most valuable thing to come of this experimentation has been the tutelage of Ainderu Summerleaf, the mooncloth tailor working at the Threads of Fate. I have learned much of traditional kaldorei mooncloth patterns and dyes, and even if this project never comes to completion in the ideal way, I believe it will have been a very worthwhile endeavor. I am very grateful you saw fit to give me the opportunity.

I am keeping busy as best as I can by fulfilling my orders as Cobalt's tailor and enchanter and have taken on the side project of making clothing to be donated to those who may have lost their homes and therefore their wardrobes in the Shattering. It always feels unprofessional making clothes without knowing their intended wearer in mind - nothing can be fitted, the goal is simply to cover a variety of sizes. I understand that you have taken in quite a number of orphans at Drakewatch - if there are any that need more to wear, please have their measurements sent; I would be pleased to oblige.

During times of war, were you ever ordered to take actions that you personally struggled to abide by? This may not be an appropriate question to answer in a letter, I understand. I simply wonder how common it is.

I saw you at Bertrand's wedding, and I hope you will forgive me for not coming to say hello. I was obligated to make an appearance in support of my brother, and I was at the time living in the Vineyard, but I admit I was in no mood for either socialization or celebration. If you have time, and are not obligated to be elsewhere, it would be lovely to speak with you in person one of these days. I can be found once again at A Hero's Welcome in Dalaran.

Regards,
Cressidha
