Arc: The Cobalt Blade

Dear Cobalt Blade,

Given your recent diplomatic success among the Dark Iron dwarves, I am assigning you to something of a politically-sensitive Dark Iron mission. I’m writing to give you a little necessary background, so that you’ll better be able to see the potential pitfalls, hopefully before you fall into them.

Cobalt Company has something of a history with Moira Thaurissan, now the Dark Iron representative on the Council of the Three Hammers. Two years ago, our company was hired by King Magni Bronzebeard to handle what was believed to be the kidnapping and mind control of his daughter, Moira, by the Dark Irons. After a few initial forays, a team of Estel Herald, Cambrin Cooper, Halliday Bristow (now Tyrrell), Sil Silentstep, and Oranna Stormbreaker fought their way to the throne room and made an attempt at the rescue. Unfortunately, they did not realize that Moira was there of her own free will until after killing her husband, Emperor Dagran Thaurissan.

As you might guess, this has made our current relationship with the ruling council of Ironforge a bit fraught, which is especially unfortunate as our main headquarters are located in Ironforge. Thus, now that Moira has contacted Cobalt Company with a job request, it is very important that we bring it to a successful conclusion.

Coming to the request itself, it has become clear that Moira is not in full control of her people. Her most recent scandal was the arrest of the Dark Iron Ambassador Slaghammer, who was in league with the Twilight’s Hammer and served as an inside man to facilitate the Dark Iron attack of the Ironforge airfield. With this betrayal right under her nose, it should be no surprise that this rebel faction is even bolder in Shadowforge City, far from her oversight. Moira finds herself in need of a forceful hand to extend her influence back to her own capital city.

I’ve been informed that we were not Moira’s first choice of partners in restoring order to Shadowforge City, but that a team (who call themselves “Morgan’s Militia”) has gone in ahead of us. They have, however, not reported back, and are feared to be lost. Given our existing intel and proven capability to infiltrate the Dark Iron capital, Moira has now called on Cobalt Company to both follow up on Morgan’s Militia and to ensure her capital does not fall to the elementals and the Twilight’s Hammer.

This is also a unique opportunity to venture into Shadowforge City with the blessing of its leader. I have been contacted by other Alliance organizations - SI:7, the Stormwind Mage Tower, the Temple of Elune, and the Earthen Ring - with additional requests for you as their representatives. Please see your respective contacts before you assemble at the briefing meeting I have arranged with Moira Thaurissan on Monday in Ironforge. I hope you will be able to not only earn her goodwill, but to serve the security of the Alliance as a whole in this matter.
