Your Lordship:
It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you that the orchards which you entrusted to my family are no more. I now believe that the Horde, in the confusion caused by the attack of the black dragon, launched a cowardly and vicious attack on Southshore and its environs. The town of Southshore itself is a contaminated ruin, seething with pools and puddles of plague. I cannot hope that any of the townspeople escaped.
I was, by the grace of the Light, able to save the lives of eight of our people: the widows Eliza Westborn, Jadia Wright, and Laurinne Padrig plus their five children. I was unsuccessful at convincing any of the others to leave, though none of us could have known what the Horde were plotting. I had gone merely to urge them to leave the mountains due to the earthquakes that cost the life of Mason Albright the prior evening.
I give you my most sincere apologies and my heartfelt sympathies for the loss of your people and your land. Please do not hesitate to call upon me if you wish further information, though I know precious little I have not included here.
