Little Ta -

It occurs to me that you might have taken the tone of my prior letter amiss. In case it was not sufficiently clear to you at the time: I am proud of you, and anything else you read in my tone was my genuine concern and affection, perhaps poorly expressed.

The Skybreaker alone would have been feat enough for most people, but you are not most people; you are a Fallon, and a brilliant one. You have begun your 7th Legion career with an intrepidity and heroism that most soldiers can only hope of achieving at some eventual point in long years of service, if ever.

My pride in you is outmatched only by my tremendous relief at your safety. As your brother, I do not require great deeds of you, but only that you come home safely when they are done. I am not surprised, however, that you will insist on performing great deeds all the same.

I trust this letter clears up any misunderstanding from the previous; I would ask that you bear me no grudge, but I know you too well for that. Consider your grudge my gift to you, in honor of your deeds.

Your admiring brother,
Siamus

Vice Admiral Jellyfish -

That cannot possibly have been an apology, for two reasons: The first is that you do not apologize to someone by beginning, ‘I am sorry that you misunderstood me.’ The second is that I assume you are not apologizing to me out of a spontaneous welling of conscience or attack of contrition but because either your wife or Captain Tyrrell shamed you devastatingly. Which one was it, I wonder? Was it both of them, prevailing upon you from either side? How miserable for you, I imagine, though I am mortified it came to that.

(Mortified for your sake, you understand. A grown man should not have to be instructed in how to write a letter.)

Also please note that asserting I am brilliant by virtue of being a Fallon is extremely offensive. That may be true of you, but I am brilliant entirely on my own merit.

Heroically,
Sgt. Sintha Fallon
7th Legion, 6th E.U.

Brilliant Sgt. Fallon -

You are correct absolutely and in all respects; I put my foot in it again. Kindly preserve this letter for posterity to commemorate an occasion on which you were right and I was wrong, lest future generations be tempted to grant me too much credit.

And yes, Avrenne and Tyrrell both wrote to me, both to tell me (as I had asked of them) that you are well. I would not say that I was shamed by either, though I may have been slightly scathed by Tyrrell. (Had he not been scathing, however, I would have had to write to you to confirm that he is well.)

Silvestre Silentstep sends his regards, by the way, as well as his own concern for your well-being. He claims that you were a comfort to him in the wake of the Wrathgate — a claim I find unlikely in the extreme, but he is an impressionable young man.

Your profoundly penitent brother,
who is extremely sorry,
entirely of his own volition,
and will no doubt be made to feel so on an ongoing basis,
Siamus

P.S. Would it make you feel better if I told you that I love you?

Absolutely not. Don’t be vile.

Ta

P.S. Tell Silvestre he is sweet to be concerned but I am perfectly fine and have no idea what he is talking about.
