(2023-10-05) What A Fun Challenge!
Details
Author: Athena
Summary: Andy writes Siamus back with his belief that Winnie will have a grand ol' time defending a death knight who brutally murdered three priests in broad daylight in a legal trial that will set precedence and potentially shape the entire future of the Ebon Blade in Stormwind for years to come. What fun! Winnie writes to Siamus to tell him the good news that Harvey does, in fact, have a lawyer. 500-ish words.

S. Fallon,

It does seem to be a rather odd situation, doesn’t it? Brutal deaths in open public and broad daylight, and of three priests of the Church of the Holy Light of all things. It might be an open and shut case, and damn just about everything on the matter. It could possibly generate enough pressure to force an overturning of the edict, or even result in a banning of the Ebon Blade from Stormwind city. It rather demonstrably proves what the detractors have been saying, with the potential for these people to be quite dangerous, and best kept far away from citizens, if it’s what it looks like.

If we were approaching this horrific news perpetrated by any other, it would be seen as a personal issue. That is, a mass murder by an individual. This will instead be seen as a condemnation of all of those associated with the order of the Ebon Blade, which is an unfortunate reality of public sentiment. It might be useful to separate the chap out, if the Ebon Blade will denounce him, if he proves to be of the murderous rampaging sort, but limited benefit there, I’d expect. After all, a family might say that Uncle Barold isn’t one of theirs, but if they do so only after he’s chewed through the walls of a tavern and several guests, it’s not going to have quite the same impact as having done so before.

Given the current atmosphere, there will need to be a significant change in public opinion with this matter before you could move forward any legislation without rioting in the streets.

I’ll have some chats with a few folks I know, and Lady Fallon might want to do the same, on making sure this goes along the right route of at least a legal trial. King Varian’s edict should be interpreted that way, that it guarantees the same rights he would have had before, as an ally of Stormwind. If the chap’s simply condemned and executed on the spot, I don’t imagine there will be much more that can be said on the matter of their integration for years to come. It might be that he ends up on the chopping block in the end, with a guilty charge, and His Majesty will have a real political pickle on his hands with that edict of his.

But, everyone should have legal representation, no matter their potential guilt, as we must all be presumed innocent in the eyes of the law, and my Winnie will be an excellent representative for a legal case of precedence of this magnitude. I’m sure she will enjoy the challenge immensely. I’ll have her write to you once she’s taken the case.

Give my regards to Lady Fallon and Lady Sintha.

Cheers,
Andy
