Sir Elohad Ference Gwenivene Whittle

<A tiny portal opens in the Ference home, just inside the front door. Out of it appears a glowing entity, only familiar because something like it has been seen before in Shattrath City: the arcane familiars for Khadgar. Only…this one is smaller, about waist-high. As soon as it sees Elohad it glides over and lifts its pudgy arm, in its hand a sealed letter that it offers to him.>

Elohad,

Did I start that alright? Should I have written "Sir Elohad"? Or "Lord Ference"? You've always been very informal, but this is a formal letter. Oh, butternuts, I'm already being informal and ruining it. I should start over, but I hate wasting paper. Well, too late now.

Lord Sir Elohad, sir. (Ference). I hope this letter finds you well. I'm sorry I haven't been in contact. Everyone in Dalaran has been under strict orders from the Violet Citadel to maintain isolation. Even this message is being delivered via extremely secure means.

I'm writing to you about a matter of some concern taking place in Silverpine Forest. Through our information network, we've learned that San'layn agents have been seen near Shadowfang Keep in the Silverpine region.

You might be asking what a San'layn is. I sure did! I had an entire 38 page dossier written up on them, but apparently that's a "breach of protocol" and "too great a risk of leaking sensitive information". Why are we keeping this stuff a secret? I really don't know.

Anyway, what I can tell you is that San'layn are a faction of powerful undead elves that drink blood and serve the Lich King. Icky with a capital Ick. As far as we can tell, they were high elves. Given the quel'dorei talent (and need) for drawing energy from external sources, it makes some sense that these undead versions became vampiric. Instead of arcane power, I believe they're now feeding their addiction with the life force of other sapient beings via their blood. ICK.

The Lich King has been keeping his San'layn busy lately with some pretty high-profile missions. I'm not sure whether Cobalt Company realizes it, but we (we being Cobalt Company, not we the Kirin Tor) have already vanquished two of their Blood Princes. Prince Keleseth was sent as an ambassador to the Vrykul of the Howling Fjord , and Prince Valanar tried to infiltrate the Alliance in the Borean Tundra. We got them both! Go Cobalt!

That is why my superiors asked me to contact you. We (I mean "we Kirin Tor" this time) are stretched thin right now. Our people back in the Eastern Kingdoms are too few in number and must continue to monitor the Dalaran crater site for instability and arcane anomalies. The Kirin Tor needs Cobalt Company's help. Pookie is also carrying a promissory note for payment. I think you'll find it's very generous!

The mission, if you choose to accept it, is to investigate Shadowfang Keep for signs of these San'layn. Learn what they're doing there. If possible, stop them. I assume that means destroying them. You know…minions of the Scourge and all that.

Please give your reply to Pookie and she'll bring it directly back to me.

I miss you all so much. I can't wait to see you again!

Love and sqwunches,
Gwenivene Whittle
Mage of the Kirin Tor

<After receiving Elohad's reply, Pookie the arcane familiar produces a small, triangular crystal, which she squeezes in her hand until it shatters with a burst of energy and she is teleported away.>
