Gwenivene Whittle

A sealed letter is slipped under the door of Gerhold's quarters at Nethergarde Keep. Attached is a note reading:

Mr. Fauntleroy,

Please read immediately. We need to talk about this!

~ Gwen

The sealed letter is, in fact, Gwenivene's most recent report on the Dark Portal:

Report: Energy Surges Amassing Toward the Dark Portal

Author: Gwenivene Whittle

Reference: For initial findings regarding energy surges along ley lines leading to the Dark Portal, see relevant report by Riftwatcher Pendleton.

Findings:

Based on Mr. Pendleton's figures, which have indicated the Exodar as one of the key sources of the ley line surges, I have hypothesized that the Exodar's arrival to Azeroth may have left a rift in the fabric of space in between Outland and Azeroth which, with sufficient power and knowledge, the Dark Portal could be realigned and fixed to. Gerhold Fauntleroy and I requested the aid of Cobalt Company to investigate the Exodar and look into this matter.

One of the draenei of Cobalt Company, Taelei, arranged our audience with Prophet Velen, who directed us to speak with Feera, a draenei technician knowledgeable of dimensional mechanics. She believed that the Exodar's arrival could potentially have triggered the surges.

Feera was sent to Nethergarde Keep to assist in our research and help us make sense of the data we've been gathering. What we have uncovered is monumental…and gravely worrisome. Feera's calculations have demonstrated that the ley line surges are not nearly as haphazard as we first believed; there is a pattern to them. Though they are coming from a variety of origin points — including the Exodar, Ahn'Qiraj, and Blackrock Mountain — the aggregate influx of energy has a measurable regularity to it. More importantly, that regularity is a constant and exponential increase.

We are still uncertain what is causing this, but Feera and I are less convinced that the Exodar's arrival is the trigger. While the breach into our world may have provided an opportunity, we believe this is a deliberate act, not a natural phenomenon. However, who or what could possess the power to do this is beyond me.

Recommendation:

Until the cause for the energy increase is found, I know of no way to stop it. The recent increases in demonic activity in the Blasted Lands have not escaped our attention, and seem unlikely to be a coincidence. If they are involved, this becomes a military matter and I am of little use in recommending strategy.
