King Varian Wrynn The King of Stormwind. He was missing for a time in Years 25-26, when he was taken captive by the Defias Brotherhood on behalf of Onyxia. He loves his kingdom, and tries to rule fairly. But he has a temper and is often looking for reasons to war with the Horde. |
Prince Anduin Wrynn Varian's adolescent son. He ruled Stormwind in his father's absence under the regency of Bolvar Fordragon. |
Jaina Proudmoore Renowned mage and exiled daughter of the Lord Admiral of Kul Tiras. Jaina rules Theramore Isle. She has good relations with Thrall. She was once romantically attached to Arthas Menethil. |
Mathias Shaw Head of SI:7, Stormwind's intelligence network. Cobalt Company has developed a good relationship with Shaw and the agency. |
High Commander Halford Wyrmbane Halford Wyrmbane is the High Commander of the 7th Legion. During the Second War, Wyrmbane was a knight in service of Lordaeron. Even then, when his was just one of many legions, Wyrmbane's exemplary leadership had elevated the 7th to a near-legendary status. |
Marshal Gryan Stoutmantle Once a Knight of the Silver Hand. After surviving the culling of Stratholme, Gryan returned to his homeland in Westfall to take up arms against the Defias Brotherhood. Getting no help from a corrupt House of Nobles, he formed the People's Militia to protect Westfall. After the Defias were defeated, he reformed the militia into the Westfall Brigade to take part in the Scourgewar. |
Uther the Lightbringer One of the first five Knights of the Silver Hand and it's leader. Possibly the greatest hero of the Second War. He was a mentor to Arthas Menethil, but later fell to the cursed blade Frostmourne, wielded by his former student. |
Turalyon One of the first five Knights of the Silver Hand. A former priest and a great war hero, eventually joining the Sons of Lothar through the Dark Portal. He fell in love with the high elven ranger, Alleria Windrunner, and both disappeared through a dimensional rift during the shattering of Draenor, leaving behind their son, Arator. |
Dwarves
Magni Bronzebeard The former King of Khaz Modan, Thane of Ironforge, and head of the Bronzebeard Clan. A founding member of the Explorers' League. Forged the Ashbringer. Magni was killed while trying to use an artifact recovered from Ulduar to "become one with the mountain". He was literally turned to diamond and stone. |
Muradin Bronzebeard The king’s brother, lost in an expedition in Northrend and resurfaced with amnesia among the Frost Dwarves. He has since regained his memories. |
Brann Bronzebeard The king’s youngest brother and a famous historian and explorer. He is the leader of the Explorers' League, but is rarely around for administrative duties as he always off somewhere exploring ancient ruins and titan artifacts. |

Though the Wildhammers are independent, they are close allies to Khaz Modan and the Alliance.
High Thane Falstad Wildhammer The leader of the Wildhammer Clan, who took up the position after his predecessor, Kurdran, disappeared through the Dark Portal. |
Kurdran Wildhammer The former High Thane of the Wildhammer Clan. He joined the Sons of Lothar through the Dark Portal and was trapped on Outland for many years, where he established Wildhammer Stronghold in Shadowmoon Valley. |

High Tinker Gelbin Mekkatorque The chosen leader of the gnomish people. |

Broll Bearmantle A druid of the Cenarion Circle. After his daughter's death he fell into a depression, lost access to most of his druid forms, and sold himself into slavery as a gladiator, where he befriended the amnesiac King Varian Wrynn. After triumphing in the War Against the Nightmare, his eyes turned golden and he felt he had finally become a great druid. |
Maiev Shadowsong Legendary Warden and leader of the Watchers. She obsessively hunted Illidan Stormrage, eventually slaying him with the aid of a large Alliance force, including members of Cobalt Company. |
Jarod Shadowsong Maiev’s brother, was a leader in the kaldorei resistance during the War of the Ancients. |
Belysra Starbreeze A powerful priestess of Elune. During the War of the Satyr, she fused the Staff of Elune and the Fang of Goldrinn into the Scythe of Elune, which she used to transform the Druids of the Pack into the first worgen. She repented for her transgression and helped Malfurion imprison the worgen in the Emerald Dream. When the worgen curse broke out in Gilneas, she helped King Greymane keep his curse under control for years, and later helped all Gilnean worgen with a ritual to control the curse. |
Mordent Evenshade Leader of the Highborne Shen’dralar (from Eldre’thalas, a.k.a. Dire Maul). He successfully negotiated the return of his people into Darnassian kaldorei society. |
Draenei
The Prophet Velen Leader of the draenei and prophet of the naaru. |
Farseer Nobundo Once a Vindicator, but lost his connection to the Light when he became Broken. He later became the first draenei shaman and spread the practice further among his people. |
Worgen & Gilnean Humans
King Genn Greymane The King of Gilneas, known for commissioning Greymane's Wall. He ruled when the worgen breached the Wall and spread the curse among the citizens of Gilneas. He had secretly been cursed for years, but kept it under control with the aid of Belysra Starbreeze. |
Prince Liam Greymane Prince of Gilneas and son of Genn Greymane. Liam was a patriot and believed fully in his father, despite a somewhat cold relationship. He was a prince of the people, always putting them first. Not a fan of shirts. Liam perished during the Battle for Gilneas City when he took an arrow from Sylvanas meant for his father. |
Lord Darius Crowley A Gilnean lord who led a rebellion against King Greymane after the Wall cut off several Gilnean settlements, effectively leaving them to die to the Scourge. The rebellion was put down and Crowley imprisoned. But King Greymane ordered his release when the worgen attacked, putting old differences aside. Crowley led a last stand against the worgen in the Cathedral of Light in Gilneas City, where he was bitten and afflicted with the worgen curse. |
Lorna Crowley Daughter of Lord Darius Crowley. She has a fiery temper and is a terror with a shotgun. She was instrumental in the evacuation of Gilneas City and shows a deep devotion to the welfare of the Gilnean people. |

Alleria Windrunner A former Ranger-Captain of Silvermoon and sister to Sylvanas and Vereesa Windrunner. She fell in love with the human paladin, Turalyon, and both disappeared through a dimensional rift during the shattering of Draenor, leaving behind their son, Arator. |
Arator the Redeemer Otherwise known as Arator Windrunner, he is the half-elven son of Alleria Windrunner and Turalyon. He spent much time searching for his missing parents in Outland, and eventually followed in his father's footsteps as a paladin himself. |
Valeera Sanguinar A blood elf that befriended Varian Wrynn during his absence from Stormwind. She earned his trust and now serves him as a personal spy. |

Warchief Thrall Warchief of the Horde and leader of the orcs. Shaman. Led his people out of the internment camps and wants to build a new future. |
Garrosh Hellscream Warmonger and major orc figure, son of Grom Hellscream. Raised in Nagrand as a Mag’har orc and taught that his father was shameful. Now super into being Horde after Thrall told him his dad’s a hero. |
Varok Saurfang Old and wise orc leader who regrets the atrocities he committed in Draenor. His son Dranosh was much like him in heart, but died at the Wrathgate. |
Eitrigg Aging orc warrior, advisor to Thrall. More of a peacemaker, friends with Tirion Fordring. |
Garona Half-orc, half-draenei assassin. Emissary of the Horde in the First War and reluctant murderer of King Llane Wrynn. |

High Chieftain Cairne Bloodhoof Leader of the tauren people. Widely respected for his wisdom. |
Baine Bloodhoof Son of Cairne. He lives in his father's shadow, but he has a good heart. He fought against the Nightmare while Cairne was trapped in sleep. |
Magatha Grimtotem Chieftain of the widely loathed Grimtotem Tribe. The Grimtotem caused an incident when they burned down the Shady Rest Inn in Dustwallow Marsh, murdering the family inside. |

Nathanos Blightcaller Sylvanas’s lover in life, and the only human ranger. Raised and remained by her side, then killed at Marris Stead by Cobalt Company. |
Grand Apothecary Putress Chief of the Royal Apothecary Society, and behind the attack at the Wrathgate. Killed by Cobalt Company and the Alliance. |

Varimathras A Dreadlord who was in the employ of Sylvanas Windrunner. He was the mastermind behind the Wrathgate. Varimathras was defeated and sent back to the Twisting Nether by Horde leaders and heroes. |

Hemet Nesingwary A world-renowned game hunter. He and his organization are despised by D.E.H.T.A., a radical faction of the Cenarion Expedition, who actively take up arms against Nesingwary's people to protect wildlife. |
Illidan Stormrage, the Betrayer The twin brother of Malfurion Stormrage. While Malfurion excelled as a druid, Illidan turned to the arcane. He made choices during the War of the Ancients that were instrumental to pushing back the Burning Legion, but cost many kaldorei lives. "The Betrayer" was imprisoned for over 10,000 years. After his release he gained new, demonic power with the Skull of Gul'dan. Though he tried to use his power against the forces threatening Azeroth, he was still seen as a threat. Eventually left Azeroth, leading a group of blood elves and naga to Outland to establish his own rule. In Year 26 he was finally killed with the help of the kaldorei Wardens. |
Ishanah High Priestess of the Aldor. |
Khadgar Former apprentice to Medivh. He discovered Medivh's plan to open the Dark Portal. Later joined the Sons of Lothar and became trapped on Outland, where he settled in Shattrath City, assisting the Sha'tar. |
Medivh The Last Guardian of Tirisfal and master of Karazhan. Was possessed by the spirit of Sargeras, who used him to help the orcs open the Dark Portal. Though slain by Anduin Lothar, he was resurrected just before the Third War as a mysterious prophet to influence the cooperation of the races of Azeroth against the Burning Legion. With his task done, he vanished to take his place "amongst the legends of the past". |
Moira Thaurissan The regent of the Dark Iron dwarves, now sitting on the Ironforge Council. She is the daughter of Magni Bronzebeard. She married the late Dark Iron Emperor Dagran Thaurissan, and has a very young son, Dagran Thaurissan II. |
Ralaar Fangfire, a.k.a. Alpha Prime The first worgen. Ralaar led the Druids of the Pack, who eventually became the Druids of the Scythe when they transformed into worgen. They were defeated by the nascent Cenarion Circle and imprisoned in the Emerald Dream. Millennia later, Ralaar, by then known as Alpha Prime, was freed by the Gilnean sorcerer, Arugal. He attempted to spread the worgen curse through Gilneas to raise an army with which he could march on Darnassus and have his revenge on Malfurion Stormrage. His death came at Tal'doren, with the assistance of the Gravehowl Pack. |
Sicco Thermaplugg The traitor responsible for the destruction of Gnomeregan in a bid for power. |
Vereesa Windrunner The leader of the Silver Covenant. Sister of Sylvanas Windrunner. |
Voren’thal the Seer Leader of the Scryers in Shattrath, once an advisor to Kael’thas. |
Zalazane Traitor to the Darkspear, held the Echo Isles for a time until he was defeated. |
Zul'jin The former leader of the Amani forest trolls. He allied with the Horde during the Second War, but eventually broke away, denouncing the Horde. He retired to Zul'Aman, but was eventually killed by Horde adventurers. |
The Argent Crusade
Highlord Tirion Fordring One of the original Knights of the Silver Hand. Tirion merged the Knights of the Silver Hand with the Argent Dawn to form the Argent Crusade, which he leads. He also was instrumental in the Light's freeing the death knights at Light's Hope Chapel. |

Ysera the Dreamer Aspect of the Green Dragonflight. Caretaker of the Emerald Dream. |
Eranikus Ysera’s consort, died in self-sacrifice to free her from the Nightmare. |
Blue Dragonflight
Malygos the Spell-Weaver Aspect of the Blue Dragonflight. He become convinced that mortal spellcasters were the cause of Azeroth's problems, and began the Nexus War against what he considered "rogue" magic-users. The war ended only when Cobalt Company, with the aid of the red dragons, slew Malygos. |

Chronormu (a.k.a. Chromie) A bronze dragon with a special affinity for mortals. As such, she is frequently the one the Bronze Dragonflight sends as a liaison with mortalkind. She almost always appears in the form of a female gnome. |
Black Dragonflight
Neltharion the Earth-Warder More commonly known as Deathwing the Destroyer. Was corrupted by the whispers of the Old Gods and turned on the other flights, nearly wiping out the blues. During the Second War he masqueraded as the noble Daval Prestor to sow chaos among the Alliance. He also caused Alexstrasza to be enslaved as a broodmare for the Horde. He was defeated and retreated, near death, to the deep places of the world. |
Sintharia Neltharion's consort. Also known as Lady Sinestra. |
Nefarian Son of Sintharia and Neltharion. He performed horrific experiments in Blackrock Mountain until he was killed. |
Onyxia Daughter of Sintharia and Neltharian. She infiltrated the Kingdom of Stormwind as Lady Katrana Prestor and attempted to control it. She was the mastermind behind the disappearance of King Varian. Cobalt Company helped to uncover the truth about her. A returned Varian led an assault on her lair and slew her. |
Naaru
A'dal Leader of the Sha'tar and ruler of Shattrath. |
K'ure K'ure was the first naaru to make contact with Velen, and was vital to the draenei's safe escape from the man'ari eredar. It became a close friend and mentor to Velen. When the Genedar crashed on Draenor, K'ure was severely weakened and could not leave the ship. In time it would befriend the spirits of orcish ancestors attracted to its energies. |
O'ros One of the naaru that answered Khadgar and Velen's call for aid against the invasion of Outland. O'ros accompanied the fleeing draenei aboard the Exodar to Azeroth. |
Knights of the Ebon Blade
Highlord Darion Mograine Highlord of the Knights of the Ebon Blade. |
Thassarian Human death knight raised during the Third War and freed at Light's Hope Chapel. First death knight to join the Alliance. Has a close relationship with Koltira. |
Koltira Deathweaver Blood elf death knight who was killed by Thassarian and raised during the Third War. He was freed at Light's Hope Chapel and has a close relationship with Thassarian. |
The Scourge
Arthas, the Lich King Arthas Menethil was the crown prince of Lordaeron and a Knight of the Silver Hand. During the Third War, he learned the Dreadlord Mal'Ganis was behind spreading the plague in Stratholme. Vowing vengeance, he led the 1st Legion to Northrend to hunt Mal'Ganis down, accompanied by Muradin Bronzebeard. There he found and claimed the cursed blade Frostmourne. Drawn to the Frozen Throne, he merged with the entity trapped within to become the Lich King, master of the Scourge. |
Bolvar Fordragon, the Lich King A former Knight of the Silver Hand and Regent of Stormwind during Varian's absence. He led the assault on the Wrathgate and was believed to have perished to the Forsaken blight. However, the flames of Alexstrasza preserved him, but also changed him, infusing his body with dragon fire. Arthas captured him in this state and tortured him. After Arthas was defeated, he claimed the helm of the Lich King for himself, as it was known that there must always be a Lich King to control the Scourge. This fact has been kept a deliberate secret, and precious few know it. As far as the world is aware, the Lich King and Bolvar Fordragon are dead. |
Kel'Thuzad An archmage of the Kirin Tor who became a necromancer of the Scourge. After his death, Prince Arthas made a march of death and destruction through Quel’thalas to reanimate him into lich form through the defilement of the Sunwell. He was defeated once in the Plaguelands. His phylactery was stolen, allowing him to rise again, but then he was killed permanently in the Dragonblight in Northrend. |
Sindragosa Prime consort of Malygos, died during the War of the Ancients. Was raised by the Lich King as a frostwyrm, but later destroyed during the assault on Icecrown Citadel. |
