RP Hooks

  • Other draenei: I mean, there aren't that many of them. Especially applies to those who lived and traveled aboard the Genedar, to former Rangari, and to fellow students of Farseer Nobundo.

Appearance

Zaara is a youthful-looking draenei woman of diminutive stature with a slim, willowy build. Her skin is the subdued palest blue of a winter sky; the long, sleek fall of her hair is the deep blue of a summer sea. Every once in a while, in a turn of her head or a change in her posture, the light seems to catch in her hair with a silvery flash too bright to be ordinary luster, as though it were threaded with lightning. She has short but elegantly backswept horns. Her large, wide-set eyes are dull, clouded by some inner shadow, but her expression is gently attentive; she often wears a slight, dreamy smile, as if half-listening to a distant song.

Around her left horn she wears three bands of hammered silver connected by loops of fine silver chain. From the chains hang several small, rough ornaments: a grey-blue feather, a smooth-tumbled piece of sea-green glass, a smoke-colored pearl. On nearly every finger, she wears rings of silver set with polished but irregularly-shaped pieces of vivid malachite and richly-banded agates.

History

Zaara was born some 2,000 years ago during the long draenic exile among the stars. She was not born aboard the Genedar, but in a brief respite when her people landed on the misty, watery moon of some nameless world. Her birth was early, and her mother often joked that it was the sound of that alien sea that drew her curious child out before her time. Her parents feared at first for the delicacy of their prematurely-born daughter, but — although she would remain small all her life — young Zaara's resilient, free-spirited nature laid to rest their concerns.

On every new world the draenei touched, Zaara was among the first to tumble wide-eyed from the Genedar's crystalline confines; whenever it was time to go, she took her fond leave of a planet as she might an old, dear friend, but without grief or regret. Born in her people's wanderings, Zaara is by nature herself a wanderer, her face always turned toward a new sun.

When the draenei alit at last on Draenor, Zaara approached the prospect of a settled life with a restless determination to see and know every crevice of this new world. At first only a sort of vagabond scout and hunter, Zaara was led eventually to join the Rangari by the earliest rumblings of hostility with the native orcs. A fixed homeworld might be no necessity for her, but she knew what it meant to most of her people and was determined to protect it and them.

During the siege of Shattrath City, Zaara and her comrades fought guerilla skirmishes in the forests outside the city, harrying orcish reinforcements to distract from the flight of Velen and the draenei evacuees. An orc warlock and his felhound minion came upon the already-wounded Zaara and several of her fellows locked in furious combat with some of his own people, and cast a searing web of curses on the party that stifled their senses and strangled their words in their throats. When Zaara woke, she discovered she was the only of her party who had survived. She was also permanently blind.

In the wake of the war's catastrophes, both cultural and personal, Zaara vanished into the wilds again, intent on re-learning the newly alien world. Its once-familiar textures were now strange, and spoke to her in different ways; she listened to these new voices, and followed — and at the end of her wilderness journey, was led to the mountain refuge of the Krokul Nobundo, the first shaman of the draenei. She became one of his earliest pupils.

When her mentor and the Prophet Velen raided Tempest Keep and seized the Exodar in hope of securing allies to aid their crumbling world, for the first time in her life and with Nobundo's blessing, Zaara stayed where she was. She was resolved to help hold together whatever pieces of the broken planet she could, and to help heal the Outlands' tormented elements. It is only recently, with the influx of Azerothian allies and assistance via the Dark Portal, that Zaara herself has at last ventured across in the other direction, once again striking out in a new — to her — world, and rejoining her mentor to take up her studies at his feet once more.
