RP Hooks

  • Zephyr - As a shaman, Xaafi communes with all the elements. But she has always had an especially strong connection with the spirits of the air and wind. Perhaps they relate to her flighty nature and propensity to wander wherever impulse or circumstance takes her, with no regard for (or awareness of) borders or rules. She always seems to have a playful breeze twirling around her, tossing and ruffling her hair and clothes.
  • Musician - Xaafi lives and breathes music (sometimes literally). Her performances are rather unusual, relying on elemental spirits as her "backup band". She wears numerous hollow reeds of varying gauges on her body that she directs air through to produce notes as she dances. Her staff is adorned with wind chimes and crystal vials filled with water of different levels, which will tinkle together, or produce sounds with rapidly swirling water, or air blown over the tops of the vials. Cracks of lightning or thunderous hoofstomps in the earth serve as powerful percussion. It is an unusual take on some traditional draenei music (though she is starting to take an interest in some Azerothian styles as well), and perhaps not to everyone's taste. But no one can deny her sound is her own.
  • Dwarven Accent?! - Though her Common is broken and limited at best, some of her speech has a distinctly Dwarven affectation.

Appearance

Xaafi’s ivory skin is contrasted sharply by her jet black hair, which she wears in a short, flipped style that is constantly being played with by wispy breezes. High cheekbones show through a rounded, youthful face, complemented by full lips and smooth, shapely brow ridges. Her downward swept horns frame her features elegantly. Her form is shapely, with voluptuous curves that she is not shy about, favoring open, breezy attire that displays her natural assets.

She is a bouncy, bubbling girl, usually with a bright smile at the ready, a giggle right behind it. Energetic and lively, she is constantly moving, not one to hold still for long. She can be rather handsy, often forgetting about considerations like personal space.

Xaafi speaks almost as musically as she sings. Her voice is high and sweet, her tones and cadence lyrical. She speaks very little Common, and when she does so her Draenei accent is very thick, sometimes making her difficult to understand.

Personality

Jovial ⬥ Oblivious ⬥ Instinctual ⬥ Creative

Xaafi is an affable, cheerful girl who makes friends easily…often too easily. She can be overly trusting and tends to have a blind spot for danger, whether from the people she places faith in or the very environment around her. She keeps the spirits she has befriended busy saving her from quite literally wandering off cliffs. The truth is that Xaafi has always relied on her instincts more than really thinking through the consequences of her actions, and for the most part it has worked for her (in no small part due to a brother looking out for her and the fawning attention of the men and women she flirts and dallies with).

Perhaps the one thing Xaafi is serious about is her music. She has a deep love for the songs of her people and wants to bring them to life in new ways, using her shamanic powers to create unusual performances of dance incorporating elemental spirits “playing” various instruments on her person. It may not be to everyone’s taste, but it is certainly unforgettable.

Romance

History

Xaafi had a carefree life growing up on the rolling plains of Nagrand. She always felt a powerful draw to nature, and took any opportunity to go exploring in the hills and canyons, discovering remote, secret places where she could be alone with nature. Of course, it was not at all uncommon for her to blunder into danger. Thankfully, her big brother, Saion, was frequently there to rescue her, if not one of the rangari patrolling the region.

Xaafi matured quickly — at least physically — and she enjoyed the attention it brought her. Well, most of the time. When it got to be too much, she would just disappear to one of her secret places in the wild to have some solitude. Though she never truly felt alone. She always had the stones, the wind, the rain, the warmth of her little cooking fire. To her, they always felt like friends; the kind that could just be present without demanding anything of her. It was a peaceful coexistence that she couldn’t seem to find with other draenei.

Xaafi had always been rather aimless. She took no interest in any vocation. She had her music, but that was a creative outlet for her; she refused to turn it into work. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to be of service to her people. She just didn’t seem to have any talents that would be useful to them.

When the orcs suddenly attacked, Xaafi’s lack of focus no longer mattered. She had been out exploring when they fell upon their village. Hearing the screams and warhorns in the distance, she got close enough to see her home burning. So did what she knew how to do: she hid.

It took her brother three days to find her, but he refused to give up or believe she had been killed or captured. Of course she’d scurried away to one of her hidey-holes; he just needed to find the right one. He spared her the news of their parents’ deaths until they were safe behind the walls of Shattrath City.

However, Shattrath would not remain safe forever. Even its mighty walls fell to the orcish Horde in time, and once again Xaafi and her brother had to hide along with the rest of their kind. The intervening years were a living hell for all draenei. Still, Xaafi had a joyous spirit and zest for life that could not be extinguished. Even in the darkest hours she could find love and hope, and sought to share them with others. Perhaps it seemed to some that she simply did not fully comprehend the depth of the danger and loss; but all the same, many appreciated the gifts of her music and passion.

When the krokul Nobundo returned bearing the elemental powers of the shaman and received Velen’s blessing to teach them to the draenei…Xaafi was distracted by some pretty moths when the news was shared with her. When a mighty gust of wind blew her from a high walkway in Shattrath to have her fall broken by a passing shaman below…Xaafi was ever so grateful, made a date with him, then promptly forgot all about it. When out exploring and a sudden rockslide improbably dumped her directly in front of another meditating shaman…Xaafi apologized for disturbing her, ate some of her soup, and went home. After a few months of this pattern, it finally took her friend (and shaman initiate), Kaerix, dragging Xaafi to her teacher to be tested for elemental affinity. For whatever reason, the spirits seemed to favor Xaafi, and so she began her training as a shaman. Perhaps she would finally find her purpose.

Relationships

Bran
This amusing little man was in the company of Gaakhed, hunting pie-ruts when the wind blew Xaafi their way. She latched immediately onto Bran's enthusiasm and good humor. He's been very helpful to mimic in practicing her Common as spoken by a native.
Firefly
Bran invited Xaafi to watch "Firefly" fight competitively in the Dalaran Underbelly.
Gaakhed
Xaafi met Gaakhed…uh…she honestly can't remember. But he's just kind of always been around.
Kaerix
A dear friend who she trained alongside as a novice shaman.
Nesselos
Xaafi first met Nesselos in his rangari days when he would travel through Nagrand. At one point they were closer…and Xaafi inadvertently broke his heart.
Nunu
They are familiar with one another through shaman training.
Saion
Xaafi's brother and occasional protector…mostly from herself.
Tabard
A night elf Xaafi met through Bran. They tried to explain the tabard is what he was wearing, not his name…but it didn't stick.
