RP Hooks
- Blood Knights: If your character is a Blood Knight, they've likely met.
- Silvermoon: If your character spent a lot of time in Silvermoon, they may have met.
- Plaguelands: If your character was in the Plaguelands under any (non-scourge) affiliation, they can have met.
- Ebon Blade: If your character is a freed death knight at this point, they can have met.
- Argent Crusade: Her sister is in the Argent Crusade, and she's spent time trying to improve their ties with the Ebon Blade.
- Tuskarr: Syarra has spent considerable time in Northrend building rapport with the Tuskarr, who don't seem as opposed to death knights as some races (we are marked by Karkut). Others with an affinity to Tuskarr may run into her or hear of her.
- Redridge Mountain: She has been living in the Redridge Mountains lately, and can be encountered there.
Appearance
While alive: Syarra was a pale blood elf with a tumble of long, slightly-curly black hair and eyes with a luminous green glow. The strength of her body was shaped from many years of training and combat, and her hands were roughened from the same. She was competent in the use of cosmetics and followed Silvermoon fashions, but she would be unremarkable next to most city sophisticates. She would considered very pretty in a rough way, but not exceptionally beautiful.
Now, as a death knight: Syarra's skin is even paler and has a tinge of grey. Her tumble of long, slightly-curly black hair remains, but her eyes are a dead, burning blue. She still retains most of the skills and strength she had in life, but no longer has much interest in fashion or cosmetics, except as a tool to present a particular image.
Personality
Serious - Sensitive Perceptive - Driven - Idealistic
Syarra and Roper
While alive: Syarra approached life with a quiet intensity, trying to see value in everything that she did. She struggled with feelings of inadequacy and doubts about decisions she'd taken. She took her responsibilities to her society and her loved ones very seriously, and tried to live up to their expectations. Her longing for success and approval was illustrated by her paladin horse, who she named Glory.
Now, as a death knight: Syarra is still serious and driven, but her idealism cuts her with a sharper edge. She is cruel, as all death knights are, but tries to restrict this to appropriate situations. Her emotional core was ravaged in the transition to becoming a death knight - she is still capable of feeling to some extent, but positive feelings are brief flickers that quickly fade away. Emotions were so central to her decision-making in life that she often feels like her whole life was something that happened to someone else, despite her relatively clear memories of it. Her strong internal focus has shifted to external, and her perceptive eyes watch and read everyone she encounters.
This character is unavailable for romance.
History
Syarra Changing the Stakes
From Syarra's early years, she sought a way to serve and protect Quel'Thalas. She had disappointingly little talent for the arcane, so she dedicated herself to military training. She had little talent there, either, but what she did have was a dedication and focus that over many years enabled her to increase in skill and rise in rank. She fought in the Second War on the side of the Alliance in Quel'Thalas. She was, in general, friendly to humans and made an effort to learn Common during this time. She was opposed to the withdrawal of Quel'Thalas from the Alliance after the war, but did not leave her homeland over it.
Syarra was the eldest child in her family. Though she was not a mage, her military pursuits eventually brought pride to her family name, unlike the less noble pursuits of her decadent little sister, Aszera. Eventually, she convinced Aszera to follow a similar militaristic path. To her distress, she soon found her little sister excelling over her and drawing more approval and accolades than Syarra ever had. Still, the sisters remained close, and Syarra tried to keep her jealousy quiet and out of sight. During the Third War, Aszera saved her life more than once. The two of them made it out alive, though they lost their parents. When Kael’Thas Sunstrider called on some of the healthiest fighters and magisters to join him in aiding the resistance in Lordaeron, Syarra was not chosen to join. Aszera was. Syarra said farewell to her sister, for what she thought would be a short time. Time stretched…
Syarra and her Ghouls
For the duration of Vanilla Classic, Syarra was living quietly in Silvermoon - grieving without her sister's comfort, struggling with mana addiction, fighting the remnants of the Scourge in the Dead Scar, and attempting to help rebuild Quel'Thalas.
Prior to The Burning Crusade, Kael'Thas Sunstrider sent something unusual back to Silvermoon — a Naaru war prisoner, Mu'ru. The Magisters learned how to forcibly extract Light powers from the Naaru, and the blood elf paladin order, the Blood Knights, was founded by former-priest Lady Liadrin. Syarra put her name forward to take on this new ability, and to her surprise, she was accepted. After receiving her connection to the Light, Syarra found that invoking her powers caused her agonizing headaches. Despite this, she was determined to make the order proud. She and her squad of Blood Knights were assigned to the Plaguelands, aiding the Argent Dawn in the shadow of Naxxramas, when they caught the trail of something unusual. Following it led to their doom, with Syarra being the only survivor of any sort, as a death knight of Acherus.
As a Scourge death knight, Syarra engaged in the destruction of Scarlet Onslaught settlements at the behest of the Lich King, and then assaulted Light's Hope Chapel. During this time, there was no possibility of resistance to domination in her, and she sought to fulfill her master's orders with the same drive she once dedicated to the military and the blood knight order.
After being freed during the Battle of Light's Hope Chapel, she was briefly without purpose. She was angry and erratic, and potentially very dangerous to the living. She met (and didn't kill) Kit during this time, and their conversation helped her find direction. She ended up teaming up with a fellow death knight, Roper, for a mission. Their association ending up growing into much more over time.
As she began to find her footing, she became once again interested in reclaiming connections from the wider world. She sought out her only living relative, her younger sister Aszera, who was violently hostile. Through persistence and care over a long period, Syarra has managed to convince Aze that they are still family. Shortly before the Northrend campaign, Syarra and Roper joined the fight against Kael'Thas Sunstrider in Quel'Danas, where the Sunwell was ultimately restored.
When the Alliance and the Horde launched their campaign to Northrend to put an end to the Lich King, Syarra and Roper traveled north as a part of the Ebon Blade. While in Northrend, they fought against the Scourge and slowly found a way to build their particular un-life.
Syarra and Roper formalized their bond into a marriage (though one that is not recognized by any government), and she counts Aszera and Alaisa as her family. They slowly built trust with the local Tuskarr population, who saw the death knights as marked by Karkut, the spirit that ushers their dead to the beyond. They settled in a yurt in the abandoned sacred village of Kaskala in the Borean Tundra, and slowly turned the building into a home.
Alongside this development, Syarra and Roper attempted to build better ties with the Argent Crusade, including joint training and assuring the paladins that the death knights would be strong allies against Arthas. The two of them also built a political bridge with Vice Admiral Fallon, who continues to push a limited citizenship for death knights in the Stormwind House of Nobles.
With the Vice Admiral, they crushed the Scarlet Onslaught (uncovering that they were led by a dreadlord - predictable, Scarlets), as well as an island refuge of the kvaldir. They then fought at Icecrown Citadel, and finally put an end to the Lich King - only to find another set in his place, former Stormwind Regent Bolvar Fordragon. Another who might exert the power of the Helm of Domination over her at any moment.
Syarra and Roper lingered for some time in Northrend, dealing with Scourge remnants while the new Lich King learned his power. They then traveled south back to Acherus, leaving their yurt in Kaskala behind. For a time, it seemed like they were right back where they started, existing among the undead in a necropolis. This time, though, they had living allies and a drive to find a place to exist in society.
Some time after the Cataclysm, a young noblewoman suggested they might be welcome in the north of Redridge Mountains, as a defense against orcish encroachment from the Dark Horde. They moved into an abandoned war camp, and set about making one of the huts into a new temporary home. As a death knight and an elvish woman, Syarra makes no effort reach any further into Alliance society. However, she does her best to maintain what allies she has gained, and to prove her usefulness to the Alliance through action.
Relationships
Alaisa
Roper's chosen family. As such, she is important to me as well. |
Aze
Little sister. It was difficult to convince her to accept me as a death knight, but that difficulty is behind us now. |
Roper
Partner and husband. My highest loyalty. |
Brendol
Initial attempts to lure him into danger were interpreted as friendliness. Now that I am more stable, I will pretend they were always intended as friendliness. I helped in his rescue from rogue death knights in Voldrune. |
Dame Briellen Clay
An Argent paladin who expressed interest in the death knights. At Voldrune, Briellen died for me, though she was able to be resurrected. Needless to say, we are on good terms. |
Celaven Evensong
A kaldorei priest of Elune, once a friend and possibly still one. He is wary of me, but willing to know me as I am. |
Coriene
An asset I cannot make use of effectively during the faction war. A Magistrix of Silvermoon and a player of games. |
Cressidha
A skilled tailor, and one willing to accept my kind for what they are. I am honest with her, and I believe we are on good terms. |
Lady Dara
A priestess I met in Light's Hope Chapel, who suggested Roper and I might be welcome in Redridge. She brought us Winter Veil presents. |
Lord Tennerow
A Redridge noble who agreed for us to temporarily settle in the region and provide defense of the border, in exchange for his mediation in any altercations with the living. |
Elowel
My former employer in the Crimson Coterie. We seemed to get along surprisingly well. I gave her the truth about my departure from the Coterie. We parted on good terms. |
Estel
An unusual priestess. I think not dangerous to the Ebon Blade, as long as she doesn't want to be. |
Lady Kalindra
A former quel'dorei noblewoman who is marrying the Tennerow second son and building a lodge in Redridge. I would like to make common cause with her, as elves in the Alliance, though I worry she does not see the full reality of my situation. |
Kas
He was a fellow Hand in the Crimson Coterie, before I left to prevent my possible betrayal. We worked well together. |
Kit
A paladin with lovely red hair and optimism. She has helped me find my way in the past, and I value her as an ally. |
Mourn
An ally in the Ebon Blade, though he does not listen to my advice. He struggles with control, and has been manipulated into public killing. It is important to me that he does not fail with his living partner, as that will have a significant political impact for myself and my husband. |
Vice Admiral Fallon
An important political ally, and one who sees the value we offer the Alliance. My sister, in her role as an agent of chaos, has chosen him as a hookup partner. If her actions threaten our political situation, there will be words. |
Tabiana
Tabiana was skeptical of my intentions at first, but we have come to better terms. I have spoken with her about her past family situation, and assisted in her preparation to fight her hostile death knight sister. |
Theris
An ally in the Ebon Blade, and Alaisa's brother. I assisted him after he was freed from his hostile family. I have not seen him lately, but our kind typically work alone. |
Colson
He is cordial but very cold. |
Crim
An orc soldier I met while investigating the ambush at the Deathgate. I believe we are on reasonably good terms, except that I have stepped away from neutrality on the side of the Alliance. |
Fionette
A fellow death knight, and I know a living woman who loved her. I do not know Fionette very well, especially as she has claimed to have left the Ebon Blade, but she is doing well for public relations. |
Forge
An ally in the Ebon Blade. I gave him his nickname, back when we were slaves together. He has been receptive to strategies since. |
Gethennis
He was a fellow Hand in the Crimson Coterie, before I left to prevent my possible betrayal. We used to bicker, but I do not think we were on bad terms. |
Jenzelle
The subject of the rescue operation at Voldrune. I know little else of her. |
Mordecai
A surprisingly friendly human ally, a husband to Colson. |
Ralaea Westwind
I latched onto the mission to keep her safe when I was newly freed, and a protective sense lingers. I believe she considers us to be on bad terms, but she is also very emotional. I have no idea how she may feel tomorrow, the week after, the month after… modeling her possible emotional fluctuations is beyond my ability. On my side, I have no particular ill will toward her. Her death threat toward me was a bluff. |
Lady Sophiette
A paladin I met and spoke with at Light's Hope Chapel. She worked with the death knight Fionette, so she is a likely ally, though I do not know her well. |
Ranneowyn
A skilled dancer, who was my little sister's dance teacher once. I have seen her at an exhibition since my reanimation. |
Sil
A friend of my sister's. We fought against the Scarlet Onslaught together, but he has kept his distance. |
Enaliya
It is her fault that I am what I am today, though I denied her my pain and death. I have no desire for vengeance at this time, and even less desire for my sister to tangle with her. |
Kaela Mondragon
A target acquired after my freeing. She has now met true death, but not by my hand. |
Adamantia
A strange young living woman who helped during the rescue operation at Voldrune. |
Almeiria
A shadow priestess who fought against the Scarlet Onslaught. |
Alysson
A strange young living man who helped during the rescue operation at Voldrune. |

Emerine
A kaldorei woman who fought against the Scarlet Onslaught. |
Etone
A priest I met in Quel'Danas, fighting the undead together. He very reluctantly accepted me as an ally, but we have worked together on several occasions since. He healed me without pain at Voldrune. |
Captain Sparkwire
A mercenary captain who was at the assault of the Icecrown Citadel. |

Kiekel
An ally in the Ebon Blade. An odd gnome. |
