RP Hooks

  • SI:7 — Roper was a top agent once, and some might still know him by his agent name 'Roper.'
  • The Ebon Blade — Roper has a plan to elevate the Ebon Blade up high enough to become a normal part of life in Azeroth, safe from the mobs with pitchforks. The longer this goes on, the more likely your character can have heard of him or Syarra, the leader of the Death Knight PR team.
  • Syarra — Roper's wife and the leader of his group. Make her your problem, Roper is your next problem.
  • Colson Aspenwood — Those who know the paladin might find Roper's reaction to the name is anything but neutral.
  • The Scourge — The fight to keep the Scourge from destroying Azeroth goes on, and Roper will not quit a mission that isn't finished.
  • Cobalt Company — Roper has a strong interest in Cobalt, and every connection counts. If your character is an IC member or an associate, he will be motivated to make a good impression and work together.

Appearance

At 5'6", Roper has the lean, tightly muscled build of an acrobat or gymnast. Unremarkable facial features made him an excellent spy, where he was able to be forgettable when he needed to be. Since being raised by the Lich King, his eyes have the telltale blue glow of a Death Knight, but they were once a dark enough brown to be mistaken for black when he was alive. His skin, once a warm brown, is now a grayish tone that leaves no room for interpretation of whether he's alive or dead. His hair is a mix of black and streaks of white, making it look salt-and-pepper gray. His hands are covered in scars, and several of his fingernail beds look as though at some point the nails split and they healed incorrectly — he rarely exposes his hands, preferring to keep his gauntlets on.

Ordinarily, Roper keeps his helm over his face, or wears a leather hood, when he's in public, hiding his face. Some of it is to conceal how dead he appears, but even when he's openly acting as a death knight, he rarely shows his face. His voice is ordinary, particularly among those who don't know him well; those who remain around him longer will note that his natural voice has a husky sound to it (Voice Claim: Christian Kane), a remnant of his life.

Personality

Focused • Ambitious • Funny • Impatient

ALIGNMENT: CHAOTIC NEUTRAL

Roper is a man of drive and purpose with a finely tempered level of ambition. He was well known when he was alive for being almost relentless in his pursuit of a goal, and for putting a mission objective above everything else, including his own life, and even in death that has held true. Roper prefers to lead from the shadows, driving from behind another used as a front to test the waters and provide someone to take the fall if necessary, leaving Roper free to act as he must to achieve his ultimate goal. In death, the line between focus and ruthlessness has become far more blurry, and Roper's impatience and irritation with incompetence builds faster to anger and intimidating rage than before.

He was difficult for the Death Knight instructors to break in full, having trained for so many years to survive and withstand torture, but there was no escaping the Eternal Hunger and the drive to survive at all costs to finish the mission. After being freed of the Lich King's control, Roper found himself clinging to every single possible greater mission in a desperate attempt to stay in control of himself and his newfound existence. In doing so, he teamed up with Syarra Sunstrike, a former paladin sin'dorei woman. Over time, the formed a bond, then a friendship, and ultimately a romantic relationship.

Part of Roper's skill as a spy was in his ability to put together complex puzzles of information, and fill in the blanks accurately. He has a natural intelligence even with limited education — he did not learn to read until his late teens, and his education was focused on what he had to know for a mission. He might be able to play a single violin song, but he can't tell you about the history of the violin or how to read music.

He makes intuitive leaps, often through an instinct for information and connected pieces, but he's not one to reveal his thoughts often. He affects more of a personality that many death knights, but much of it is an act, or exaggerated from the memory of personhood. Not all of it is, however. Some pieces remain of a man who had a charming crooked smile and a good laugh. If the smile is cruel, and the laugh rarer now, they're still there in some form at least.

This Character Is Married In An Undying Relationship And Cannot Be Romanced

History

BIRTHDAY/DEATHDAY: JANUARY 1ST, YEAR -04

Roper began his life the eighth son of two people who should never have had any children, and he was one of only two of his siblings who made it to adulthood. Found by Mathias Shaw after he successfully, on a dare, impersonated a member of SI:7 well enough to fool the man who had trained the agent, Roper started his (official) career as a spy at the tender age of eighteen. Known for his uncanny ability to impersonate speech patterns, pitch, tone, and accents, as well as a finely honed mimicry of body language, Roper rose quickly in the ranks of SI:7 as an agent with an eye on being part of the leadership of the organization.

Well into his successful career, in Year 23, Roper was given a mission of staggering importance that risked everything on the agent's ability to carry it nearly alone. He was placed within the Alliance Army under the command of a young Knight-Lieutenant who had proven himself capable of working within the exacting parameters of SI:7's missions — Colson Aspenwood. Despite falling for the Knight-Lieutenant, Roper chose to put the mission first, as he always had before. Unfortunately, a chance moment's slip on wet stone caused the agent to be fatally wounded, too far away from any source of aid, and he died; but the mission was a success.

His body was recovered by SI:7 after a day of quiet searching. The body went missing before he was properly buried, stolen by a necromancer. Roper's body was raised and preserved, until eventually he was called back in full as a Death Knight to the Lich King's command. After the Battle of Light's Hope Chapel, he turned to the Ebon Blade, some part of him returning as best it could to the type of man the Alliance would have once called a 'hero.'

Roper took part of the initial venture into Northrend on the Ebon Blade ship Revenge, and has been working to further his agenda of public relations for the faction as well as keep the world from imploding or exploding in the meantime.

On July 13th, Year 27, he and Syarra were married by Mordecai Aspenwood, witnessed by Alaisa Lysander and Aszera Sunstrike in a private ceremony. It isn't legally filed on either Horde or Alliance sides, to prevent the potential threat of either being seen as affiliated with someone across the faction lines despite the Ebon Blade's neutrality. Roper took on Syarra's last name "Sunstrike" following the marriage.

Roper has participated in several large scale battles — the Sunwell, Angrathar the Wrathgate, the War Against The Nightmare, the end of Malygos, and the final assault against Arthas The Lich King. His helm is usually on, but his saronite armor is notable, he spoke often enough for his voice to be recognizable, and in some cases his face was visible.

Aliases he once used known by now:

-Private Roger Reynolds (a soldier in the Alliance army)
-Tibault Beringer (a genteel merchant class young man who lived with his aunt)
-Shale (a former member of a Stormwind street gang known as The Vultures)
-Harland (Grey) (a Westfall lad, not particularly well educated, but a good farm boy)
-Evander Favre (his original birth name, never used again after age 18)

Relationships

Syarra (Sya) Sunstrike
His wife who he trusts as implicitly as he can trust anyone. He loves her, as one of the few darkly bright spots of his (un)life. He's positioned her to take the spotlight lead of his plan to drive the Ebon Blade's reputation up to where they can survive among the living of Azeroth. They do a regular Tuesday Night Candle Tragic Past Contemplation, where they talk about the past and continue to build their strategy for the future, and currently live together in Kaskala.
Alaisa (Mist(ake)) Lysander
Back when Roper was alive and in SI:7, they were best friends. He can't remember her now, except in a single uncomfortable flash of memory. He called her affectionately 'Mistake' as a play on her Agent name 'Mist,' and she knew him socially as Tibault, one of his few identities that he used when he was being his actual self. She's his best friend, was his Best Woman at his wedding, and the only living person he fully and complete trusts, as much as he's capable of it.
Azera "Aze" (Ace) Sunstrike
Syarra's younger sister, an asset who has the power to help establish a legal precedence for the Ebon Blade and provide Syarra with a link to other living assets. She's grown on Roper in her own right, and they oscillate between imminent violence and comedic duo of bickering siblings. He's given her a few gifts, and recently put in more effort to pull her to their side, and under their direct connection.
