RP Hooks

  • Second War: Veteran of the Second War in the Ironforge Siege, much of Oranna's destiny was shaped by her experiences in that year.
  • Animals: A hunter with an affinity for animals, talking about training pets, or the inherent wonderfulness of the creatures of Azeroth is a surefire way to engage Oranna in conversation.
  • Titans: With near irrefutable proof that Titans exist, Oranna's disbelief has shifted more to scorn. Whoever or whatever the Titans are, they aren't gods, and Oranna doesn't think they're even good caretakers. Conversations about them will get her to speak up about it.
  • Origin of the Dwarves: It's a touchy subject, but she was there in Uldaman when the origins of the dwarves was uncovered, and later through Northrend's reveal of even more details about those origins.
  • Guns: Oranna knows her stuff on guns, and she will introduce anyone to Boomstick, the family heirloom that just won't quit, and her overengineered sniper rifle, Sunbeam.
  • Easy to Read: Oranna wears her inside thinky thoughts on the outside. Those who need honesty and a chatty partner will find it easy to be around her.

Appearance

4'3" tall, with warm toned light skin, and thick brown hair kept in a very tight braid. Years of frowning in concentration have left a permanent crease between her brows, which had started to fade, and is now deeper and more pronounced. Dark brown eyes with overgrown eyebrows, a bit top heavy, and thickly muscled thighs — Oranna looks like a standard Bronzebeard Dwarf.

Her face is perpetually easy to read, as she shows nearly every thought or feeling on her face. Her fashion sense often leaves much to be desired by those with high standards, but it's likely obvious to some that she tries; she's just not good at understanding the rules of fashion or following them.

In the past few years she's become fond of dresses, something not allowed in her youth, but recently she's been in mail and leather once more.

Personality

Vulnerable • Generous • Kind • Bright

NEUTRAL GOOD

Kind at heart to all (and powerless against a cry for help), but wary of deeper connections, Oranna is a questioner by nature. She tends to fret and worry about things to come, and focus too hard on what is behind her, leaving her rarely able to enjoy the moment she's present in.

In combat, she prefers to stay clear of the fray, and always leaves herself an exit route. Always.

She was skeptical about the existence of Titans, and was convinced they’re a government conspiracy to create Prospectors for accumulating generational wealth and generating nepotism jobs until Cobalt Company's recent exploits in Uldaman.

Hates alcohol, loves explosives (from a safe distance; she likes her eyebrows the way they are, thank you).

She'd become happier, and more relaxed, with her fiance, Bargrimm, who lifted her spirits and her heart. When he died en route to the initial establishment of Alliance outposts in Northrend, it left her grieving, and trying to find her way back to that contentment.

She doesn't believe in absolutes, and she upholds the belief that everyone is only a person, there are no monsters or saints among sentient beings. She struggles with concepts of pure Evil and pure Good, seeing them more as personal choices rather than cosmic certainties.

History

BIRTHDAY: DECEMBER 31ST, YEAR -67

Born into a family with a long history of staunch warrior defenders, Oranna was expected to follow in her family’s footsteps until the siege of Ironforge in year 5, when nearly her entire family was lost in the dash to safety, giving their lives to see others safe.

After a bitter year of siege, crammed in with strangers and unable to grieve her losses, she left Ironforge in year 6 to live on the fringes of the Khaz Modan mountains, living in isolation with books and stray bits of news to sustain her.

But at the age of 92 and after nearly 20 years of only reading about adventure, she found herself unable to only live through books any longer, and began a new chapter of life with Cobalt Company.

OrannaBefound
Oranna at the start of Cobalt Company.

Her family can be diplomatically described as unkind, and more accurately described as abusive: her history with them shows a pattern of violently high expectations and stubborn refusal to accept Oranna for who she is rather than what her mother wanted her to be. This has influenced Oranna significantly, and plays a constant part in her self-esteem and interactions with others.

Oranna is one of the original members of Cobalt Company, hired early on as a hunter/sniper. She remained on the squads for almost a full year, before taking a break after some harrowing adventures that left her questioning her place on the front line of combat.

She grew into an administrative role after the Company split its attentions between Azeroth and Outland in Year 26, and found a peace within paperwork that provided a sense of purpose without killing, but inevitably, Azeroth's state of war meant that for her to follow her sense of need to help, she would need to venture back out to the front for her fellow dwarves.

In Year 25, Oranna met Bargrimm Flintspark, a Wildhammer dwarf almost two hundred years older than her, but the two forged a deep connection that blossomed into a romance. They got engaged after a whirlwind romance of four months, and had been planning to marry in Year 27, in the summer. Recent events of his death put Oranna on Cobalt's first ships to Northrend, and she returned to Cobalt's Forward White Squad to do her best in helping the Bronzebeard royals, as well as extend a diplomatic hand to the different types of dwarves in the north. She remained in the freezing Storm Peaks for months, helping the Earthen and the Frostborne.

Back in the field, Oranna assisted on an As-Needed call for Search and Rescue, a position that has seen her consistently employed in the wake of the Cataclysm and Shattering. She worked in Vash'jr, and then later in Deepholm, once more helping fellow dwarven types in a siege against their enemies, and rescuing royalty (with slightly more grateful success than her first attempt with Moira).

In Year 29, as Cobalt Company joins the offense in the Highlands, Oranna once again works to liberate a siege with her fellow dwarven cousins, the Wildhammers.

Relationships

Bargrimm Flintspark
Oranna's late fiancé who never returned from an expedition to Northrend to set up an Alliance outpost. He called her “Sunbeam,” and he introduced her to the joy of fireworks. His loss is a grief she lives with, and his ghost in her head is a comfort more than a pain, now. Their house in the Mystic Ward of Ironforge is still under both their names, but she is now the sole owner.
Dane
Since the early days of Cobalt Company, he’s been something like a brother to her, sometimes older, sometimes younger, but she’s very fond of him either way. He makes her feel safe, and she’s never been intimidated by his gruff mannerisms. She can read when he’s really angry, and at whom. He’s a good lad who is willing to take on the frontline violence to try to obtain a better world, even if he sometimes believes that means making a world that will one day no longer need him in it.
Niris
Niris is like a mother to her, and a trusted confidant and friend. Coffee might not be on the table, but everything else is. Oranna has helpfully offered any and all training treats for the young Baby Dane.
Cress
A friend, and someone who personified a sort of kindness that helped solidify Oranna's strength in the Company early on. They might not ever be able to bond over fashion, since Oranna understands none of it, but that doesn't stop them from finding common ground. People say Cress can be hard to read, but Oranna doesn't see it. She's clearly making lots of facial expressions.

Elo

Elo
He taught her the techniques she used to find a way to heal enough from the trauma of the Second War to move forward, and not backward, in the Company. She's comfortable with hugs from him, more than most, and isn't afraid to ask for one now.

Jo

Jo
A friend, who Oranna would shoot a troll right in the eye for any day, and she has done so — more than once. Jo may be the captain of the company, but Oranna still sees just Jo, a gnome doing her best and finding purpose during painful loss. Jo's been instrumental in helping Oranna process her grief without losing herself entirely in work.
Bran
A good friend Oranna met in her early days of the Company, who was there when Oranna met her companion leopard Befound. She worries that one of these days he'll wander off a cliff chasing some idea, and not be able to cast levitate in time. They don't really see the Titans the same way, but they can agree that the Explorers' League needs to address how they pursue the Titan knowledge. She watches out for him, and he watches out for her.

Ben

Ben
Niris' son/nephew who is always very complimentary about Oranna's shirts, and always willing to lend a hand. She's been on his squad before, and it turns out they share a birthday. Ben is within the range of human ages between Young and Old. She hopes he gets woolier as he gets older.
Lireen
When Oranna was struggling to come to terms with herself as a mercenary in the Hinterlands, Lireen was there to offer wisdom and a steadying hand on the path of a warrior that was a vastly different approach to the mentality than Oranna's mother took. Oranna respects Lireen significantly, and keeps her in mind as she works on her thinking about violence and the way of a warrior vs a hunter.
Arnathorn Firststone Thalstan "Valor"
Sort of literally the man of her dreams, in the sense that they met in the Emerald Dream during the War Against The Nightmare, he's a new friend she's met in person as well. Oranna finds him comforting to be around, especially since he doesn’t seem to mind when she forgets how to do conversations, or when she rambles at him.
Sandy
Her little brother in all but actual blood, she's taught him how to train his pets, and been there to help remind him of the good in his soul when he hit his lowest. He makes her laugh.
Auralind
A long time friend from the start of the Company, Oranna's long valued Auralind's wisdom and fierce protectiveness, even if they occasionally clash on what they consider acceptable, and what personhood can be.
Mordecai
Oranna's therapist and grief counselor. She started seeing him after having difficulty processing Bargrimm's death, and has found healthier ways to address her grief, bit by bit.
Lord Springblade
A sort of friend? Oranna went on a date with her once. Oranna doesn't know it was a date. Oranna will say she once went on a job interview with Lord Springblade. Tadget doesn't know it was a job interview.
