RP Hooks
- Worgen: A survivor of the unfortunate worgen curse, her life has been forever altered by it. She is not being subtle or disguising about it, much as she keeps on her human shape.
- Butterflies: A published author on several species, this is her passion, and the reason for much of both what she's done in the past, and what she chooses to do now. She has published under the name Nat K.W.. This is an instant conversation starter, and a way into her good graces at any time.
- Lathrik Dinnsfield: Her boyfriend, a fact she brings up on meeting anyone new, and her tie to a web of connections of other characters from the Stormwind Guard and Almeiria Fey's circle.
- Unusual Shadow Magic: Natalyah spent much of the past 15 years min/maxed into one particular Shadow skill of seeing through another being's eyes. She can look not only through people, but also animals, and can hold the viewing for as long as she can remain awake. Those who need a way to keep a constant tether on someone for hours could find their way to her.
- Scientist of the Light: For many reasons, Natalyah began studying the Light and learning how to heal, and as one of those people who when she puts her mind to something she gets better at it, she has gone from a minor healer to one powerful enough to take notice of. Strangely though, she doesn't seem powered by religious faith, but instead an intellectual approach to the science behind the Light power. Those interested in that perspective will find a conversation or connection with the scientist.
Appearance
With her smooth tanned skin, velvety dark eyes, and silken black hair, Natalyah might be considered a comely woman by some. Darker freckles form a little scattering over her nose and cheeks that speak of many, many days in the sun unshielded by a hat or shade. Her brows have an impish arch to them, and when she smiles, she always looks like she has a wicked secret she can't wait to share.
She has a cultured Elwynn accent, tinged with a faint Gilnean touch, and the habitual mannerisms of a well-bred lady occasionally at odds with a tom-boyish attitude, and she usually dresses in bright, sometimes oddly colored clothes that match the colorations of butterflies.
At her full height, she stands at 5'7", but she is rarely seen standing so, usually bent somewhat as she requires the use of two canes or crutches to walk. Born without her left leg below mid-thigh, even in her worgen form she is missing the limb.
Personality
Witty • Tempestuous • Defensive • Willful
ALIGNMENT: CHAOTIC GOOD
Those who like Natalyah would describe her as a vivacious, witty woman with a tart sense of humor and flair for inventive ideas, as likely to laugh at the absurdity of the world as dive headfirst into her work with full dedication.
Those who do not like her are more likely to point how fast her tongue grows too sharp and her words come with a bite, that her constant need for new things leads her into reckless choices, and her unwillingness to accept help becomes a liability when she does truly need it.
Natalyah has learned independence but was never truly meant for it. While she craves connection and family, she is incapable of lowering her own internal standards for what is there if it does not fit her idealized version, and she often pushes at people to see if they will stay or leave her if she isn't perfect herself. It's left her often lonely or with precious few friendships.
THIS CHARACTER IS CURRENTLY IN A MONOGAMOUS RELATIONSHIP
History
BIRTHDAY: APRIL 19TH, YEAR -04
Being born into a family with high expectations and no backbone shaped Natalyah's personality only so far. From the beginning, she went her own way, made her own choices, and decided rather early on that being helped was a form of weakness and show of contempt for her as person, an impression formed significantly in her childhood. Wanting her own independence from a family that viewed her as property to be caged, she went into the social world determined to forge her own path. When she discovered an entire field of study dedicated to the fair winged creatures of butterflies and moths, she grabbed hold of it and refused to let go, no matter the obstacles her disability had on field work.
The answer to overcoming those obstacles lay in the study of Shadow Magic that gave her the ability to see through another's eyes, and pairing herself with an assistant able to go afield where she could not, which allowed her the freedom she needed most. At the age of 20, she published her very first scientific journal of a study of the painted lady butterfly, under the name "Nat K.W." (Natalyah Kensington-Whit was rejected twelve times for the same work). She went on to publish many smaller papers adding much to other butterflies (and often corrections or full refutations to previously studied butterflies), but her next goal was the elusive Zebra Longwing Butterfly, native to Gilneas, and a lover of shaded areas.
The pursuit of this study left her on the other side of the wall when it came down between Gilneas and the rest of the Alliance, something that did not seem important until the worgen curse spread through the land, and a fateful day left her assistant dead and Natalyah cursed. Since the restoration of the feral worgen, she has come back to her sentience and human side, but has found that while she might be back on this side of the wall, there is little here for her that she once cast off and left behind, and is no longer waiting for her return.
While attempting to capture a feral worgen in Duskwood for study (and a hefty finders fee of much needed income), Natalyah ended up drawing not a single lone worgen but a feral pack, and Lathrik Dinnsfield came to her defense. Neither were happy about it. But, coincidentally, they met again at the Aspenwood-Moore wedding, where their animosity sparked into something else, and since then, the two have been caught in the other's orbit. When Lathrik discovered she had been living outside in Elwynn forest, he offered her the second room of his house, and she accepted. They began a relationship, and are doing their best to thrive in Azeroth's wild world.
She has begun to be able to use the Light, a new development. It's a work in progress.
Relationships
Lathrik Hazard Dinnsfield A chance met paladin of the Stormwind Guard, Lathrik rushed to her defense in Duskwood, and since then, nothing in Natalyah's life has been the same. Although undeniably handsome, what grabbed Natalyah's attention most was his uncommon commitment, and his unflinching defense. What kept her from being able to put him from her mind was a glimpse into him and seeing a reflection of herself, and the realization that for all of his confident mask and gentleness for her, he has no compassion for himself. And that's just not acceptable (this is a threat). They live together, and he is Courting her. He's cursed, she's cursed. It's a work in progress.
Tabiana A polite, deferential woman who used to serve in the guard with Lathrik. A very pretty woman, and now pregnant, by Reniya, and now living at Fallon House, as a retainer House.
Reniya One of Lathrik's friends and fellow guard, admittedly very good looking, but he knows it too well. A scout, probably. He was the one to spot Natalyah at the Aspenwood-Moore wedding, and also probably broke into Lathrik's house to let Natalyah in to wait for him. A Kul Tiran flirt with an unhealthily high-risk tolerance. She'd give him a scathing nickname, but she suspects he'd just be into it.
Peril Farrens An absolute gem of a man, boy, whatever. A proper admirer of Nat K.W., and a journalist himself writing the world's best absurdist newspaper. Clumsy, and awkward, but very sweet, possibly a little crazy, and clearly adores his (older? weirdly, younger actually) brother. Natalyah would claw out someone's throat if they tried to hurt Peril. He must be protected at all costs. Who else is going to write the Azerothian Interest if he dies??
Elle One of Lathrik's friends and fellow guards. He's a gentle sort of giant, and very handsy. He made their ice box and can really be depended on to listen to orders, but he doesn't seem to have much initiative himself. He went out to look for Natalyah when she ran off, which she really wasn't expecting. She really has to remember to be nicer to him.
