• Noble: Morgauna is a Countess, originally of Lordaeron but now recognized in Stormwind. House Thenedain's resituation in Stormwind is entirely due to the machinations of her mother, but Morgauna herself is proving to be a skilled courtier.

Appearance

Morgauna stands tall and elegant, with a regal bearing that speaks of her noble upbringing. Her skin is a rich shade of dark brown, given a subtle sheen with oils and carefully applied cosmetics. Her long, straight hair cascades down her back in a curtain of black silk. Her features are refined and delicate, with high cheekbones and a straight nose. Her brown eyes are sharp and intelligent, glinting with a fierce determination that belies her calm exterior.

She favors gowns in hues and shades of blue, trimmed with gold embroidery. The fabric flows around her in graceful folds, moving as fluidly as the woman wearing it. She moves with a quiet grace, each step measured and precise, as if every action she takes is carefully considered before it is executed.

Her ambition is patient but relentless, always oriented toward preserving and expanding her influence and ensuring that her house’s future is secure, stable, and unquestionable.

A woman of strategic mind, Morgauna has a keen eye for opportunity and a talent for seeing the systems that support power structures. She takes a long view, preferring investments that yield long-term leverage over short-term victories. She is primarily concerned with building infrastructure and alliances. Charm and diplomacy are her tools, and she wields them with canny skill. But even as she smiles and flatters, she keeps her deepest thoughts and feelings guarded, revealing them only at the right moments.

She must keep her feelings in check because her emotions tend to run hot. Morgauna is a deeply passionate woman who feels everything with a burning intensity. When she is happy, she is elated. Morgauna is distinguished sharply from her mother in her conscientious awareness of the plights and struggles of others. History

Public Knowledge

House Thenedain was originally a noble family of Lordaeron, ruling a county on the northern coast of Tirisfal. Lady Evelaine, wife of the late Count Devlin, had secured many alliances and favors from Stormwind nobles during their own refugee crisis following the Second War. So when the plague broke out in Lordaeron, she wielded her influence to have House Thenedain recognized as a noble family of Stormwind, even securing a new fiefdom in the hills south of the capital city.

While Lady Evelaine has long pulled the strings, it is her daughter, the Countess Morgauna, that holds the title. However, Morgauna is a grown woman now and is becoming a political force in her own right. Her mother assured House Thenedain's position through lavish parties, aggressive commerce, and if rumors are to be believed, blackmail and extortion. The Countess, on the other hand, has focused on investing the house's resources in infrastructure — most notably, she was an instrumental figure in financing and directing the construction of Stormwind Harbor…and in negotiating special trade rights for the house's shipping operations.

The Whole Story

For centuries, the Thenedain family ruled a county on the northern shores of Tirisfal. They enjoyed a prosperous sea trade, with a vibrant local seafood market and exporting lumber and agricultural goods. Several farms on their lands grew a particular type of sweet onion only available in northern Lordaeron that was in high demand on the dining tables of wealthy southerners in Stormwind.

For the most part, the Thenedains were well loved by their people; the Counts knew where their prosperity came from and saw to it that the common folk lived comfortable lives. But things began to change when the last Count Thenedain married. His wife, Evelaine, was not of noble birth herself, which initially made her popular with the people. But time would reveal that her ambition far outstripped her modest origins.

Evelaine's Ambition

Lady Evelaine constantly pushed her husband, Devlin, to expand their holdings and political reach. Devlin was more conservative in his approach to business and politics, believing that it was best to preserve what existed and let growth happen slowly, taking opportunities when they naturally presented themselves. Evenaline, however, created her own opportunities. Merchants found themselves strong-armed into negotiating terms more favorable to House Thenedain. She poached captains and skilled crew from rival shipping companies to work Thenedain vessels. A few ships from those companies were even mysteriously lost at sea during those days, easily blamed on the increasing dangers of the war in the south.

Nothing could ever be directly connected to Evelaine, but she quickly earned a reputation as a woman not to be crossed. The only person whose welfare she seemed to be concerned with was her daughter, Morgauna. Even Count Devlin became wary of his wife. So he was focused primarily on keeping the peace at home while she rode south to meet with the refugees from Stormwind. Evelaine quickly became a fixture among the displaced Stormwind nobles, spreading wealth around, investing in the futures of houses and businesses that might not even exist in the future. But she was most notable for her lavish parties, even as the human nations were convening to plan their next wartime moves.

The parties themselves became more and more decadent and eccentric — just the thing these beleaguered lords and ladies craved to escape the dreary reality they faced. This put Evelaine in a position to observe her noble "friends" and learn all manner of things about their proclivities and vices. The secrets she gathered became a currency far more valuable than her vast coffers of gold.

Devlin's Last Stand

Evelaine eventually returned to Tirisfal to find a husband with bolstered courage, ready to stand up to her. At first she seemed to comply with his wishes and played the good, obedient wife. But over the course of the next few months, Count Devlin's health took a bad turn. The healers did all they could, but his illness stubbornly persisted. The men and women of the county wept the day they heard the bells tolling from the chapel tower. They knew it meant their lord was dead…and they were at the mercy of his wife.

While Devlin's title passed to his sole descendant, Morgauna, she was too young to fulfill her duties. So Lady Evelaine ruled in her stead until Morgauna was old enough to assume her rightful place. Her tenure as the sole mistress of the county was exactly as anyone could have predicted. While the people were provided for, they did not thrive. They were repeatedly told they just needed to carry on a little longer as the county's wealth grew, and soon all would reap the benefits. But those benefits never seemed to come…at least not where the common folk could see them. Lady Evelaine was stockpiling and reinvesting those gains, taking advantage of wartime to turn as much profit as possible while opportunity was ripe.

In time, the Second War ended and it seemed peace had come to Azeroth at last. Morgauna came of age and was officially entitled Countess Morgauna. But anyone close to the Thenedains could see it was still Lady Evelaine pulling the strings. Still, despite being raised in the arts of manipulation and bureaucracy by her mother, Morgauna had her father's affection for her people. She swayed her mother to begrudgingly shift some of their wealth toward the common folk as had long been promised. It wasn't much, but it was something.

Statecraft wasn't all that Morgauna had been trained in. Despite being far from the wars in the south, the increasing violence in the world made Lady Evelaine nervous, and she wanted to make certain her daughter would always be able to protect herself. She called in some favors from the court of Lordaeron to acquire the very expensive services of an archmage to tutor Morgauna. The young girl showed promise and took well to her lessons, excelling in the field of frost magic.

Flight to Stormwind

Nothing lasts forever. Just as things were starting to thrive again in the county, rumors of dark things were spreading in Lordaeron. The dead were rising, and tales of a horrible plague. Evelaine was a shrewd and intelligent woman, and could see the direction the wind was blowing. She put her daughter on the first ship to Stormwind, under the pretense she was going there as a diplomatic envoy. When Lady Evelaine herself arrived in Stormwind, she came with three more ships carrying her personal guard and just 350 other common folk, leaving thousands behind to face the plague. A fourth ship had been sunk when a ghoul was found aboard.

At first, House Thenedain was generously offered a fine home in Stormwind City where they could stay comfortably, while their people would be eventually resettled throughout the kingdom. But Lady Evelaine and Countess Morgauna would not be satisfied with such a meager offering. Evelaine's vast archive of secrets bought her immeasurable sway with the nobility of Stormwind which, by extension, gave her influence with the crown. Within a week, House Thenedain was recognized as a noble house of Stormwind with full title and granted a generous fief in the wooded hills south of the city, with convenient access to both the forest and the coast. Lady Evelaine's long game had paid off, but she was far from done.

Evelaine and Morgauna continued to embed themselves into the political and commercial landscape of Stormwind. House Thenedain's wealth had helped to rebuild Stormwind after the Second War, and it would continue to bolster it. Among the more notable projects the house was involved in was the construction and expansion of Stormwind Harbor, the house's efforts spearheaded by Morgauna herself. Of course, House Thenedain's investment also secured them considerable trade rights to make use of the completed port.

With Morgauna secured as a Countess of Stormwind, Evelaine had to ensure her daughter would never find herself under the thumb of a man the way she had her entire life before seizing power for herself. She spent decades molding Morgauna into a formidable woman with the weapons of wit, politics, and magic on her side. With just a little more nudging, she could craft a future for her family and rest easy before leaving this world.

Relationships

Lady Evelaine Thenedain

Lady Evelaine Thenedain Morgauna's mother was common born, the daughter of a valet in the king's castle in Lordaeron. Eventually she earned her own position as a clerk working under the king's steward, where she was able to learn all the goings-on of noble life from an outsider's perspective. It was also where she caught the attention of Count Thenedain. When she became Lady Thenedain, she finally had the power to put all the knowledge she had gained in her former life to effective use. Morgauna never had her mother's lowborn perspective, so never entirely understood the reasons behind some of her lessons. While she loves and admires her mother, she does not always agree with her, and as she grows older and more experienced she finds her views drifting further from Evelaine's.

Avrenne Esprit

Avrenne Esprit Lady Avrenne and Morgauna practically grew up together—a situation as much orchestrated by Morgauna's mother as desired by the girls themselves. Each sees in the other one of the only people who truly recognizes the weight of responsibility the other carries, and while both can be overtly cool and excessively polite, there is a deeper understanding and bond between them.

Siamus Fallon

Siamus Fallon The Thenedains and the Fallons have been intertwined for decades. Now that Morgauna and Siamus lead their respective houses, they have continued that relationship, even becoming staunch allies in the House of Nobles.

Sintha Fallon

Sintha Fallon They were close once, as children. But as they entered their teen years, a distance seemed to grow between the girls. Morgauna has always feared she did something to offend Sintha, but the younger Fallon sibling has always been difficult to read, and Morgauna has never quite managed to close the gap between them.

Lord Elohad Ference

Lord Elohad Ference Lady Evelaine viewed Lord Ference as a political rival for her daughter, but Morgauna saw in him a potential ally. Now, they, along with Siamus Fallon, form the core of a political bloc within the House of Nobles.
