- Army Service: Mordecai worked for years as a chaplain in the Alliance army. He was present at the battle of Mt. Hyjal, a medic at the infirmary in Theramore, and spent time in Warsong Gulch.
- Healer: If you're hurt, he will heal you, no questions asked. He spent some time working at the Shattrath infirmary, and might be remembered as 'Doctor Mordecai' by the orphans and residents of the Lower City.
- Baker: It's a hobby that Mordecai is reluctant to discuss.
- Chaplain: Mordecai is available for funerals, weddings, and counseling.
- Notable Battles: Mordecai was present when Lady Prestor's treachery was unveiled and helped defend Prince Anduin from her dragonkin. He fought against Dimensius the All-Devouring in Netherstorm. He was at the retaking of the Sunwell. He was part of the teams that went into Zul'Gurub, Blackrock Mountain (twice), and Naxxramas. He was present at the defeat of Malygos. He fought Nefarian in Blackrock Mountain. He fought Al'Akir in Skywall. He fought Murozond at the End Time, although this battle is less renowned.
Appearance
Mordecai is six feet tall, slender, and a little awkward. It is easy to startle him, and his occasional bouts of clumsiness can be attributed either to poor coordination or nervousness. Most of the time, he tries to draw as little attention to himself as possible, and he can be very quiet when he wants to be.
He has light skin, soft green eyes, and curly red hair that gets progressively more chaotic the longer he goes without combing it. There is a faint scattering of freckles across his face and shoulders.
He is soft-spoken but genuine, and deep sincerity is often audible in his voice, even when saying what might often sound like stock phrases coming from someone else. He has a beautiful, almost angelic-sounding singing voice.
Mordecai dresses primarily in robes when at work, some more elaborate than others. He is rarely seen without at least two extra rings in addition to his wedding ring, which is a moonstone, gold, and white-gold band set with tiny azure moonstone gems.
Personality
Soft ◆ Shy ◆ Faithful ◆ Insecure
Mordecai has a kind heart and a gentle spirit. He spent his childhood operating under the premise that 'children should be seen and not heard' and this behavior carried over well into adulthood. Mordecai spent most of his life controlled by fear and the need to give other people what they want or risk the consequences, which were often painful.
After a time of living in a safe environment, encouragement to speak his mind, and constant positive reinforcement, Mordecai has bloomed. He talks far more than he used to, particularly when around friends, and he is slowly becoming more comfortable being in public.
Mordecai is a deeply compassionate person, more likely to seek understanding than vengeance, and he is incredibly sentimental. His sincerity and interest in others will always shine through, particularly when dealing with his clients or patients. He is generally an honest person, although he can and will lie out of self-preservation, if necessary. He has been called a good listener, and an easy person to speak to.
In an infirmary, or when acting as a medical professional, Mordecai's demeanor changes a little. He is far more self-assured and calm, and he gives off the impression that he knows exactly what he is doing and everything will be all right if people just follow his instructions.
This character is in a monogamous marriage and cannot be romanced.
Mordecai is a wholesome romance. He is married to Colson Aspenwood, and he is monogamous.
Mordecai is exclusively sexually attracted to men but could in theory be romantically attracted to anyone, and would maintain attraction to an established partner throughout any gender transitions or changes. He is attracted to humans of any adult age, regardless of age difference.
Mordecai is attracted to people who are calm, stable, consistent, kind, patient, confident, protective, and sincere. He is not attracted to people who are cruel, spiteful, unpredictable, or unreliable. Mordecai classifies people according to how safe he considers them, and he is likely to click best with people who make him feel safe - no shouting at him, no sudden outbursts, no unmanaged anger issues.
Mordecai struggles with insecurity and does best with a partner able to provide both reassurance and consistency. Mordecai greatly values verbal communication and will require (and also provide) verbal check-ins very often.
As a partner, Mordecai is gentle, sweet, and snuggly; he is inclined towards physical touch in most situations but will be clear when he wants some personal space. He is a good communicator, very aware of his own feelings and able to speak his mind with a partner who makes him feel safe enough to do so. He does not want children.
History
BIRTHDAY: NOVEMBER 11TH, YEAR 1
- Mordecai died once as a young child during the orcish attack on Stormwind.
- His second death was at the Battle of Mt. Hyjal in year 21, where his throat was ripped out by a felhound.
- His third death was in Menethil Harbor in year 25, killed by robbers.
The fourth son of House Harbrooke. Stormwind nobility. Mordecai's family went to Lordaeron as refugees for a while, which changed absolutely nothing about the family lifestyle or expectations of the Harbrooke boys. His parents forced him into the priesthood when he was ten.
Mordecai joined the army as a chaplain when he was eighteen in an effort to get away from his family and avoid the engagement hanging over his head for as long as possible - he was betrothed to Lady Cressidha Aspenwood, who he had no particular interest in marrying. Mordecai's unit served at the battle of Mt. Hyjal during the Third War and then remained in Kalimdor afterwards. He was present during the building of Theramore.
He remained in the army longer than he was technically required to, and was eventually called back to the mainland by a letter from his fiancée.
- In Menethil Harbor, Mordecai was killed in an armed robbery. He was resurrected by a priestess who happened to find his body the next morning, Estel.
- Back in Stormwind, trapped with a family he feared and despised, Mordecai was pulled out of an aimless cycle of despair by Colson, who suggested that he might join Cobalt Company to give him some direction in life.
- In the year 26, Mordecai married Lord Colson of House Aspenwood and took on the Aspenwood name.
- He spent time in Outland, first working in Honor Hold's infirmary and then in Shattrath's infirmary in the Lower City.
