RP Hooks

  • Warlock Ethics Bureau: Mayellen is a very active member of the W.E.B., with ambitions to one day take over Lena's spot on the leadership board.
  • Cobalt Eye: Mayellen is a member of Cobalt Company's investigative squad, the Cobalt Eye. Has someone gone missing? Something fishy going on? Call on Mayellen and her friends!
  • The Mullbys: Mayellen is the estranged daughter of the Mullbys, who run the most popular general store in Stormwind City. She helped them off and on in the store from the age of ten or so, but when she grew up she became a warlock, and they disowned her.

Appearance

A slim, neatly groomed young woman with a trustworthy look about her. Her eyes are a bit too wide-set, their color an overcast blue that's surprising given her dark complexion. Her best feature is her thick hair, dark brown with a russet gleam in certain lights, which is probably why she always wears it loose.

She tends to dress modestly, not that her skinny figure is particularly worth shielding from lascivious eyes. Thanks to a run in with a particularly nasty poison, she has worse-than-average balance and a tendency to be a bit clumsy, especially when distracted, but her fine hand coordination is good enough to make her a decent seamstress, so long as she takes it slowly. When she's out and about in the wilderness or likely to get fatigued, she walks with a cane for extra support.

Personality

Level-Headed • Caring • Ambitious • Clever

Not much given to flights of fancy, though she is often quietly innovative in her own way. Doesn't care much what strangers think of her, and therefore doesn't hesitate to correct people's errors even if they outrank her, etc. Beneath her matter-of-fact and even brusque exterior is a sophisticated sense of humor and a deep reserve of caring concern for her friends and family. She has clear goals, as well as plans to achieve them, but she tends to put others first if it comes down to a choice.

Her mother gave her some slightly too intense mental "preparation" for the Evils of Brutal and Lascivious Men. Befriending a few men who defied her mother's stereotype helped her overcome her fears, and she is now engaged to be married. She still has a tendency to mistrust men she doesn't know, particularly if they show any signs of flirtation or flattery.

Quirks:

  • Has minor nerve damage, and so the more tired she gets the more her motor skills suffer.
  • Defaults to speaking for whatever group she's part of, appointing herself in charge.
  • Chews her thumbnail when she's stressed or nervous.
  • Frequently tells Ziltuk to shush, but doesn't bind him to silence on the off chance he might make a useful observation.

This character is unavailable for romance.

History

She was born in Westfall, but when Stormwind City was rebuilt, her parents moved there to set up a shop, due to some tensions with other Westfall families around her mother's affair with a married and pretty horrible man (Byron Hazan).

Partially due to her mother's long recovery from trauma and scandal, Mayellen was always given a great deal more autonomy and responsibility than most children her age, and so by the time she reached her 18th birthday she had the confidence to tell her parents that she did not intend to look after the shop with them, but to learn demonology and use it to help the Alliance.

Her extremely religious father opted to stop talking to her until she changed her mind, and her mother followed suit out of loyalty to the man who had rescued her from a terrible situation and been good and loyal to her ever since. Because of this, Mayellen no longer acknowledges any relationship to her parents. In a particular irony, she later married Jonas Hazan, the much nicer nephew of the very man who ruined her mother's life.

She is now coming into her own as a member of Cobalt Company's investigative squad, the Cobalt Eye, and as a member of the Warlock Ethics Bureau.

Relationships

Jonas Hazan
Mayellen's husband. At first May trusted him because she thought they were related; now she trusts him because he's proven himself trustworthy. They became an item after he saved her life during a poisoning attempt.
Nala Webster
A young acolyte of the Light and a close friend of May's who often serves as a peacemaker and voice of reason in the Cobalt Eye. Mayellen has recently learned that Nala was a refugee from Arathi as a child.
Anni Jansen
The most explosive member of the Cobalt Eye. Literally. She blows things up. Her dark past has caused tensions between her and May, but they are mutually devoted, and May often wonders if she's okay.
Maisha Cloudskimmer
The most recent member of the Cobalt Eye. Mayellen admires her energy and willingness to put in the work to solve problems. Sometimes May secretly rankles when Maisha speaks for the group instead of her, even when Mai has been assigned to do so.
Lena Coit
An older warlock and former pie vendor. Lena is something of a "big sister" to May, and they see each other whenever Lena's busy schedule allows. May not so secretly wants to take over Lena's spot on the W.E.B's leadership board one day.
Ben Hazan
A close friend of May's before he went to Westfall - he even let her stay at his unoccupied apartment and gave her a horse! She distanced herself from him a bit for reasons of propriety once she found out they were not related.
Jocoza Sparkwire
Captain of Cobalt Company and NOT a warlock-hater, so May spent a lot of time Jo-cozying up to her before her admittance. She still respects and likes her a great deal.
Mr. Bennett
Trained Mayellen in the art of demonology for a while, despite her massive unrequited crush on him. May has conflicted and bitter feelings about him now, and no longer associates with him.
Zath Tyrell
Has also trained Mayellen in demonology, and although he was often abrasive and intimidating, he somehow gave May confidence in her skills. Former pie customer.
Pippinlopper
Has also also trained Mayellen in demonology. Look, Mayellen needs a lot of help. May finds him admirably level-headed and logical.
Vice Admiral Fallon
Asked the Cobalt Eye to look into the mysterious sinking of the Salty Heron, a ship that had been carrying a person of extreme importance to the Alliance.
Rozalin
An opnionated, rough-talking type who used to go out with Lena. May thinks it was a terrible match and hopes that Rozalin finds someone who has more in common with her.
Jenzelle
May met her at a tavern one night, and she and Rozalin talked about relationships and finding oneself. May thinks she seems like a kindhearted, sweet person.
