"I am not the judge, only the instrument of justice. Those wiser than I write the laws of civilization. I only follow them."

Lydia is a woman who has made being a paladin essential to her concept of her own identity. She believes herself to be an instrument of the Light's justice, and hopes that she will not be led astray by a charismatic leader yet again.

History

Lydia was the product of a love affair between the human Lady Gillian Harcourt of Hearthglen and a priest at a nearby monastery that would one day be called the Scarlet Monastery, Manuel Evenhand. Even at a young age, she resembled her birth father quite a bit, and her mother's husband, Lord Cassius Harcourt, became suspicious of Lydia's strangely intense eyes. Lord Cassius hired a private investigator to follow his wife and confirm his suspicions, and once he had solid proof, without telling anyone else, he challenged Manuel to a duel to the death… a duel which Lord Cassius lost.

In the end, Lady Gillian Harcourt got the best of both worlds: she played the heartbroken and pious widow so well that the Harcourt family never suspected a thing and made sure that she and Lydia were well-provided for.

Lydia spent her childhood at her family's summer home in Hearthglen. Other children found her stare unnerving, and she had few friends her age. She spent some years at the monastery, but eventually moved to Lordaeron City for formal paladin training.

When the Order of the Silver Hand split, Lydia joined the Scarlet Crusade, taken in by their rhetoric. She was dispatched to Tyr's Hand as one of the city's protectors, and lived there for some years. When rumors spread that Saidan Dathrohan had been revealed to be a dreadlord, Lydia began to doubt her path, but verifying this truth with her own eyes would have required leaving her post.

Lydia was not chosen to be a part of General Abbendis' Scarlet Onslaught, and so she was present in Tyr's Hand when the death knights attacked. She took as many civilians as she could to an inner chamber within a church and fought until her dying breath to keep them safe.

She died there, killed by a cruel-eyed death knight, and when her soul eventually found its way back to her broken body, she discovered that the civilians behind her had been slaughtered, and the death knights had turned their attention to the conquest of Light's Hope Chapel.
