RP Hooks

  • Nobility: House Ashewood traces its noble lineage to the earliest days of Gilneas. In the wake of the Forsaken invasion, House Ashewood was forced to relocate to Stormwind. As the only worgen Ashewood, Kenelly's status in the house hangs by a thread, and in her father's eyes she must prove her value to the family.
  • Kul Tiran Cousins: The Ashewood family has some ancient familial ties to Kul Tiras. The bloodlines branched off many generations ago, and later the two lines reconnected and reaffirmed their ties.
  • Harvest-witch: Kenelly is a member of a coven of harvest-witches, a fact she used to keep secret from her father.
  • Social Chameleon: Kenelly adapts easily (and often unconsciously) to the behaviors appropriate to the social class she is associating with.

Appearance

Kenelly is on the small side, standing only 5'5". Her dark brown hair is naturally wavy, often worn up and styled with braids intertwined with a crown of leaves and flowers. It frames an oval face with bright blue eyes and cupid's bow lips. Her voice is raspy, yet with a breathy quality that softens it. She is conventionally attractive, but in a "common" way.

Her attire can vary depending on the role she is playing, from the embroidered gowns of her station to more "work-ready" dresses made from sturdier fabrics, but always with a simple elegance. She favors floral designs, often stitching flowers into even her plainest clothing.

Personality

Traditional ⬥ Empathetic ⬥ Adaptable ⬥ Brave

Kenelly carries herself with the grace befitting her lineage. Yet she never allows notions like dignity or superiority to get in the way of her empathetic heart. She loves and admires people who live the "simple" lives that put food on a kingdom's table or build its roads and homes. Recognizing that these are hard-living folk, she spends a great deal of time among them and tries to ensure they share in the bounties of their labor.

The importance of tradition is deeply ingrained from Kenelly's upbringing. She has great respect for practices and institutions that have stood the test of time, even if they are not her own. As a noble daughter of House Ashewood and a harvest-witch, she feels a strong pull to fulfill the sacred duties entrusted to her.

Though she values tradition, her view doesn't limit that to just one set of traditions. Being the child of two faiths, she learned early how to find compatibility between different traditions. It has also helped her to navigate within the rules of a given paradigm and adapt her own behavior to achieve her aims.

Romance

Kenelly can be romanced.

History

Kenelly had the good fortune to be born into the Gilnean noble house of Ashewood. Her family's barony held a few modest hamlets with thriving farmlands. Much of their agricultural success was owed to the rituals performed by a local coven of harvest-witches. The house's relationship with the witches was strained ever since the Ashewoods committed themselves to the Church of the Holy Light, largely leaving the Old Ways behind.

Even before Baron Leor Ashewood inherited his seat, he had openly expressed his disdain for the Old Ways as "peasant superstition", not to be taken seriously. But the harvest-witches were clever. Through another coven in a neighboring fief, they had spent years quietly nudging events toward an arranged marriage for Leor. Their chosen bride, Lady Vianca, was not a harvest-witch herself, but she and her family honored the Old Ways.

Vianca influenced her husband in small ways, dulling the edges of his intolerance. When their children were born, she taught them about the Old Ways alongside their lessons about the Light — much to Leor's annoyance. In time, Vianca secretly brought each of them before the harvest-witches to be blessed by the land. At the time of her second-born's blessing, the witches took special notice.

Kenelly had always had a green thumb and loved the outdoors, taking any opportunity to play in the woods or run through the wheat fields. The harvest-witches knew this, and during their ritual they foresaw that she had the potential for witchcraft herself. It would be dangerous, for if the Baron ever discovered that his own daughter had become a harvest-witch, he would likely turn his wrath on the coven. But the potential benefit of having a lady of House Ashewood as one of their own was deemed worth the risk.

Growing up the child of two faiths came unexpectedly easily to Kenelly. She found nothing incompatible, and anything that contradicted could easily be accepted as something to ponder. The Light shone its protection upon the people, while the Old Ways provided them sustenance.

Kenelly had a good life, and delighted in sharing her blessings with those most deserving. The people were her heart. Kenelly loved to be out among the peasantry rather than cooped up in her family home. Some days would find her helping to till fields, chop wood, or looking after a farmer's youngest children while the rest of the family toiled. Of course she also took part in the coven's rituals to bring fertile growth from the land, but always under the cover of night to guard her secret.

No life is perfect, especially in Gilneas. When the worgen curse spread across the land, Kenelly tried to bring as many of the peasantry into the safety of the Ashewood home as she could. It should have been secure; her father took such things very seriously. But it only took one of the creatures getting inside. She suspects one of the household, or even the peasants, may have already been turned; possibly a member of the Wolf Cult itself. By the time they realized a monster was inside, it was too late. The deaths piled up, and Kenelly and her family barely escaped…but not unscathed.

Kenelly had been bitten. Baron Leor was a practical man, and always did what he felt was best for his family. He would ask no other to execute his own daughter, and would have delivered the fatal stroke if not for Lady Vianca's intervention. Instinct took over, and Kenelly fled into the woods. Another monster in the shadows.

In time, Kenelly was rounded up along with so many other feral worgen, living several years in captivity until a treatment could be found to restore her mind to her. She was eventually reunited with her family, but her father treated her differently. Eyes were always on her, and trust was strained. Only her mother treated her with the same love and respect as before.

Relationships

Baron Leor Ashewood
Kenelly's father is a stoic man who does not easily display his feelings. All the same, Kenelly loves him dearly and is one of the only people who can occasionally thaw his cold demeanor. She once feared he might feel betrayed if he ever learned she had become a harvest-witch. Now that she is worgen, though, she has fallen even further in his eyes.
Baroness Vianca Ashewood
Kenelly's mother is a patient and thoughtful woman who is deeply invested in the lives of her children. She is a devoted follower of the Old Ways, but practices her faith quietly so as not to ruffle her husband.
Kendyll Ashewood
Kenelly's older brother and heir to the house. He is a naturally gentle man who is constantly trying to live up to their father's high expectations…and constantly falling short. Kendyll and Kenelly get along well, though he has become more distant since she was cursed.
