RP Hooks

  • Farstriders: Anyone who served as or alongside the Farstriders in the last 50 years.
  • Veterans of the defense of Quel'thalas.
  • Bad decisions: Sin'dorei who fell into extravagant hedonism and/or arcane abuse in the wake of the war might have encountered him at the sorts of questionable parties that leave one wondering the following morning, "Wait, I did what?" (Or, "Wait, I did who?")

Appearance

He’s tall and extremely fit, with an athletic, broad-shouldered archer’s build. He moves with quiet economy, and excels at not drawing attention to himself. He dresses simply, usually in monochromatic layered shades of gray or black, and is almost always wearing a bracelet of plain wooden beads — dark and smooth with age or handling — around his left wrist. His long, black hair is liberally streaked with silver, as though he were much older than he actually is or otherwise appears.

He is missing his right eye, and wears an eyepatch to cover the worst of the scarring. The scars extend to his brow above the patch and his cheek below it. There’s further scarring down over his right collarbone, including some externally-visible damage to the bone — there’s a kind of strange dent or hitch in it. He also has two tattoos: the first, the Farstriders emblem, on the inside of his right wrist; the second, a stylized blackwork falcon, over his left shoulder.

Personality

RUTHLESS * PATIENT * LOYAL * INTENSE

This character can be romanced but it's probably not a great idea.

History

As far as anyone knows, Kas Duskwing has no history prior to his joining the Farstriders some fifty years ago.

He was a skilled and silent tracker and an exceptional deadeye marksman, and upon joining the ranger order, rose swiftly out of anonymity to make a name for himself. He did not, however, go to any lengths to forge personal ties: although he was the model of a loyal and disciplined soldier, among his fellows he was close-mouthed to the point of eliciting jokes from others about whether he could speak Thalassian — or whether he could speak at all. He also had a calmly but ruthlessly competitive streak.

There was no question that he earned his reputation for excellence. There was also no question that it did not win him many friends. It seemed clear from his silence that Kas had not joined the Farstriders to make friends. His liaisons — with men and women alike — were brief and casual.

Though he was as silent on political matters as any others, his actions suggested support for Alleria Windrunner's views about the Farstriders' proper duty to the wider world. During the First War, he spent time in the forests and hills of the Kingdom of Stormwind, harrying the orcish invaders and lending his (strange, silent) occasional aid to human refugees. In the Second War he served in holding off the Amani under the command of Lor'themar Theron, and later followed the same when he and Ranger-General Sylvanas Windrunner went to Lordaeron's aid.

It was during the defense of Quel'thalas against the Scourge in the Third War that Kas lost his eye (and very nearly his life). He resigned from the Farstriders; despite his commanders' insistence that it wasn't necessary, his own demanding standards insisted the elite order had no use for a one-eyed ranger.

He vanished for a time during the grim chaos of the war's aftermath. When he reappeared recently, he seemed to have been reincarnated as a ruthless and jaded hedonist with a self-destructive streak as broad as the Dead Scar, barely two steps removed from the Wretched.

Some of those tendencies may have been checked in recent days, as his old friend (?) Lord Gethennis Jadelight brokered an introduction to Lady Elowel Aro'ephel, and Kas found himself employed as a Hand of the mercenary Crimson Coterie.

Relationships

Lord Gethennis Jadelight
What is their relationship? Extremely unclear from the outside. What is clear is that Geth has known Kas longer than anyone else, and they share a bond that seesaws unpredictably from almost tenderly familial to outright lascivious. The underlying constant, however, is a deep and abiding attachment.
Lady Elowel Aro'ephel
The haughty, aristocratic Blood Knight socialite is not exactly the sort of company Kas usually keeps. Nonetheless, she hired him as a Hand of her new-formed mercenary company the Crimson Coterie, and seems to have earned a measure of Kas's loyalty and wary respect.
Syarra Sunstrike
A former Blood Knight, current Knight of the Ebon Blade, and now a fellow Hand of the Crimson Coterie. Her relationship to Kas is… not exactly friendly, and not exactly unfriendly. It exists. She is being watched.
