RP Hooks
- House Esprit/Fallon: Isla is part of the Esprit-Fallon entourage, and those looking for connections or a sideways way into Siamus, Sintha, or Avrenne's good graces can find one in Isla.
- The Ference Plays: Isla is a theater nerd, and has consumed the revitalized Ference Plays with a ravenous excitement. Those interested in them, or investing in them, or looking for New Talent to cast in them have Isla's attention.
- The Briarthorn Witch: Isla played a villager in this winter play sponsored by Count Amerith. She was very cute and very into her role, played with the complete and total earnestness of a 16-year-old.
Appearance
Isla is a cheerful, buoyant girl of 17 (going on 18!) with long dark hair that is perpetually not in place, with large round brown eyes and an open expression. She's come into her full height of 5'4", with a figure that might be considered lithe, but for the fact that anyone watching her for long notices how deeply clumsy the young girl is. She does fine while at rest, but any movement seems to send her into some level of unsteadiness or a tumble, especially quick movement. Prone to tripping on what seems like nothing, Isla lives with perpetually skinned knees. She does seem to recover awfully quick though. She has a lovely singing voice, sweet and natural, with a clarity of a soprano.
Personality
Volatile • Spirited • Clumsy • Buoyant
ALIGNMENT: NEUTRAL GOOD
Isla suffers from balance issues in every way – prone to extremes and swinging wildly back and forth between emotions and thoughts, she has pendulum swings of her moods, at once ecstatic with the thoughts of wondrous things, and at next in a rage at a perceived slight, and then back to delighted dreaming within moments. She has a great enthusiasm for the things in life that she loves, the most prominent of which are stories, particularly of Romance. She may lack grace, not only in her physical body but also in her expression of herself, but she does have energy. Her feelings are intense and real to her in every moment, and she has not yet learned how to control or channel them, but she has learned how to hide some of the deeper ones that trouble others. Isla truly wants everyone around her to be happy, and believes that if she can shine bright enough, she can make it happen.
History
BIRTHDAY: FEBRUARY 14TH, YEAR 12
Isla was the daughter of the cook, Mr. Lenaire, of the Great House of the House Esprit's ancestral estate. She was with her mother, one of Avrenne's lady's maids, in the City when the City fell. Avrenne found her and Otto during the chaos of the attack by the former Prince, and managed to get them out of the city. Isla was only 8 at the time, and what she remembers most clearly are only a few points, one of which was the sight of Avrenne burning herself with her own magic to fight the Scourge, which left a lingering fear in the young girl. The other was a case of words spoken in haste about the dead, after Avrenne tried to explain things quickly to a young child about the danger of the Scourge and the dead.
When they arrived in Stormwind, Avrenne offered the young girl an opportunity to be either of House Esprit or Avrenne's ward; Isla chose the wardship rather than to be Avrenne's daughter out of fear that she would have to be like Avrenne — that is, willing to burn herself to death to save the people of the House.
As she got older, she began training as Avrenne's lady's maid, although the girl does not have much aptitude for it, and Avrenne's independence often meant that it was not much used. As of Avrenne's marriage to Siamus, Isla has been taking on the role of ward more than staff, focusing on reading, writing, and entertaining guests with ghost stories. She's sure that room in Fallon House is haunted.
Isla shares a particularly close relationship with Avrenne's older ward, Finley. They bicker constantly, going back and forth between rage and reconciliation, and always have. But if there is one person in all the world that Isla would reach out to the highest of powers to bring back from the dead, it's Finley.
Relationships
Avrenne Avrenne is Isla's legal guardian, and so technically not her mother, but that's the paperwork. Avrenne is Mom. Isla has some memories of her other mother, but they're faded, and not all of them are good. Avrenne is who Isla knows to go to for anything, and there is nothing that Avrenne wouldn't do, and is very probably the best mother in all the world. Isla will never abandon her, and she hates those who have done so to Avrenne when she loved them.
Sintha Isla's Hero. Sintha feels like everything Isla wants to be when she grows up, such a lady and so SHINY and SMART (that menagerie! magic singing creatures!). Isla admires the older woman immensely, and cannot wait to find out who she can write Romantic Fanfiction about for her. Sintha deserves a princess though probably. Or a prince maybe. Princess might be better. The story can be revised.
Lee They used to know each other in House Esprit, but they became part of family after everything that happened with Lordaeron and everyone dying. He changed his name for a while, calling himself 'Lee' and then went back, but Isla still gets to call him that. He's the worst sometimes, always picking on Isla and telling her she's being stupid, and she hates him. But he's also the best, because he understands Isla when she really needs someone to see her, and he would die for her. She knows that all too well, and she loves him.
Otto Isla's other Ward-brother-person. Otto and Isla have a simple relationship, built on a mutual affection, even if they rarely can ever match each other in energy. That's okay though, because Otto is TIMELESS, a witch at the Darkmoon Faire said so once, and that means he's very mysterious and interesting.
Siamus The COMMODORE VICE ADMIRAL of the ongoing fanfiction of THE DUCHESS AND THE COMMODORE VICE ADMIRAL (text revised 2.0). Isla finds Siamus absolutely wonderful, not the least because he is obviously very in love with Avrenne. Isla knows this because even if the canon was otherwise, she has written it and fixed it, and well. She wasn't wrong in the end.
Captain Tyrrell The other romantic lead in THE CAPTAIN AND THE ADMIRAL (text revised), where at least in fiction, Zath remains a captain because reality demotions don't have to happen in the fanfiction. Isla finds Zath a terribly tragic romantic figure, which means he is fabulous story material.
THE CRESSIDHA ASPENWOOD *hyperventilates* THE. ACTUAL. CRESSIDHA. ASPENWOOD. FROM COBALT. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Isla has written so much fanfiction about her and her exploits in Cobalt Company.
Scilla Avrenne's bestie, and one of Isla's favorite people! They share a favorite color (yellow) and Isla always loved the tragically delayed engagement, SO ROMANTIC, and now that they're married it's a little more boring like a story with an ending. Maybe something interesting will happen! If not, that's fine, Isla will invent it.
Lucy Scilla's sister! Lucy was great! She had bags you could hide inside and might possibly be a sorceresses, at least in the fanfiction. Isla was heartbroken when Lucy didn't return from the war with the Lich King. Isla wrote a little story about how it all happened, and she gave Lucy a deeply tragic death that had Isla crying for hours.
Rae Another one of the wards in House Fallon, Rae is a lot of fun! She knows some of the paladins of Cobalt Company and would totally bite a ghost. Isla finds her entire relationship with Harvey deliciously tragic and she has revised the text twice to reflect that clearly Rae is the heroic one in the relationship, and Harvey is Rae's delicate death knight flower who needs his love to rescue him from his endless sorrows.
Bren Rae's brother, who has stayed at the house as a guest. He's very sweet and sometimes very silly, but Isla knows she musn't point that out. Boys get very embarrassed about being silly. Finley says he has an Interest in a priestess, and Isla thinks they make a very pretty, very shy couple. Perhaps they will spend years pining over each other! This could be the next forever circling around engagement and marriage couple, filled with the drama of yearning. Isla is so excited about this!
Shine He used to be the First Footman, but now he's just Shine. Siamus' best friend who has the most TRAGIC eyepatch from where he LOST AN EYE, probably doing something EXTREMELY heroic. Shine always pays good attention to people, and knows when they need comfort bacon.
Miss Curran The most AMAZING assistant in the world, Isla thinks Miss Curran is probably also a spy and an assassin and maybe also secretly a princess who wears glasses to conceal her identity. She can turn into animals for a given definition of animals, and knows everything probably.
Thaniel Isla's dear friend who is a WORGEN, and timeless and mysterious as Otto, but not her brother. He's pretty, but he's also old. He thought Isla might have been a worgen! It is probably because of her very own mysterious aura.
Lukas Rhenardt, Lord Graves The extremely heroic and dashing worgen lord who is a good friend of Siamus' and once caught Isla before she fell even though he was entirely across a WHOLE ROOM. He's the most amazing worgen man possibly ever who has an entire pack that he looks after, and his backstory is both DEEPLY romantic and VERY tragic with his parents. He's so stoic that he could be a knight in a fairytale, but Isla doesn't know what kind of princess would suit him. Maybe he doesn't like princesses?
Lena A warlock who has saved HUNDREDS of people, who works for the Fleet now and used to work for Cobalt. She is very pretty and maybe flirting with Mr. Shine, which would be such a romantic story, probably. Isla doesn't have enough details.
Ren He stayed at Fallon House for a while, and is a good friend of Siamus, and he has a boat that he says is definitely a real boat and not made out of paper, which makes Isla think that maybe it's made out of paper but it's ENCHANTED to look like a real boat.
Aze A new guest and good friend of Siamus, who knows EXACTLY how to make the best stories, and is SO PRETTY and GRACEFUL and has a BLINDFOLD because she's a DEMON HUNTER which is such a tragic and incredible thing to be. She says Isla is like the SUN, and is basically the most wonderful elf Isla has ever met. That isn't many, but the point stands.
Lord? Mordecai A real live priest and Chaplain, which is a very fancy word for someone who does very fancy things in the Church, which isn't anywhere near as literarily interesting as Vicar, which are ever so romantic in stories. Oh! He glows with the Light sometimes, something that might be normal??
Lord Colson? A paladin! Another real one! He looks like a paladin, and a lot like Birdie, but without smiling hardly at all, except at his husband, and they got married after hardly any engagement time at all, which means it was obviously an extremely romantic love match.
Tabiana A pregnant lady who is off to fight the Lady Wars at Finishing School, which is something that would be so exciting if Isla could go to as well. If she went to Finishing School, that means you're Finished, and so you could be out. Tabiana is probably definitely already out. Maybe. Or maybe she's out of being out? Pregnancy is complicated.
Merelda Another worgen! She can make entire houses, and was part of the Briar Magic in the play that Isla was in, and is making the townhouse in the city. What Merelda DOESN'T know is that the site of the new townhouse is on an ANCIENT ARATHIAN BURIAL GROUND and so the whole place is definitely haunted, and the spirits disturbed by the new house. Isla can't wait.
Mrs. Underthorn She was the VERY SCARY alchemist in the play, and was AMAZING. She's a worgen, one of the MANY that Isla knows because she is very wordly, too.
Arric Sintha's BEST FRIEND, and so nice, and he could almost be a prince, if princes were Kul Tiran and had sheep. He was one of the knights in the play.
Dara Another villager, Dara is now a PRIESTESS of the Light, and Lee is still not really talking to her with his real face or voice or anything. They must have had some sort of DRAMATIC and TRAGIC falling out at some point. Maybe because Lee is horrible sometimes. Except that he's not always horrible. Dara is so nice though, and she has such short hair now, maybe because she has to fight evil and didn't want a Combat Bun like Lady Cressidha??
Pantshead So nice! He was a villager and Isla might have tripped over him a time or two especially in rehearsal, and he has a fun nickname, which could only come from the most fascinating and silly story. Isla wants to know what it is.
THE ELOHAD FERENCE A REAL LIVE PLAYWRIGHT who wrote ALL THE CLASSICS, and used to have an entire company in Lordaeron and then made another company of Cobalt Company, the most FAMOUS and INTERESTING mercenary company ever created in the history of the WORLD, and he's so funny and dramatic and he read everything perfectly and maybe someday he will make an entire play based on and starring Isla, after she does something REALLY AMAZING like… like… …SOMETHING! REALLY AMAZING!
Ally Maybe the smartest person ever, she remembers everything, and knew everyone's lines in the play and where they should be standing, and you could ask her any time and she would always know. She came to the dancing party and she was the VERY FIRST PERSON to ask Isla to dance EVER who wasn't doing it as part of the practice during dance lessons, and it was SO EXCITING.
Harvey Rae's TRAGIC fiancé who is a REAL death knight, and has to carry a runesword at all times, and was part of CULT MURDER TRIAL and is the first person that Isla has ever asked to dance who wasn't just practice and it was SO EXCITING, and Isla isn't scared of him at all because he just couldn't be a horrible person or Avrenne and Siamus would never let him in the house and Rae would probably crush him with a giant hammer.
Elle A Stormwind guard who SMASHED into their house from dropping down off a gryphon, probably, all to try to dash to tell someone about how his friend was dying from a terrible poison! Also, the lead star in the play, who was so good that Isla really believed him that he wanted to save the witch. He came to Isla's first real dance party as Lee's friend, which is really interesting because as far as Isla knew, Lee didn't have friends. What a possibly suspicious story! Maybe Elle is secretly someone's bodyguard!! MAYBE HE'S ISLA'S BODYGUARD?! TO KEEP HER FROM GOING OUT?? LEE YOU BETTER NOT HAVE. Elle seemed very nice though.
