- Any sufficiently high status hunter may have gotten one of their pets from the Sunstalker clan
- Any Farstrider who survived probably knows her; the Wowpedia entries make it clear that, even among the near-total devastation of blood elves in general, the Farstriders had it the worst as they were the ones continually fighting Arthas while steadily being pushed back to Silvermoon.
- High society blood elves probably know her or her name. She's quite wealthy these days; moreover, she has a way to keep acquiring wealth. She also has some status as someone who stood with, then against, Sylvannas Windrunner.
Appearance
Illisane is 5'10" and built like most Blood Elves; slender, lithe, and deceptively fragile. She has the long, hard, wiry muscles of anyone who runs and fights, but does her best to disguise them in social situations.
Her blue-black hair is cut in a sleek angle bob, slightly shorter in the back than in the front, that doesn't quite touch her shoulders. The ends curling in naturally, parting easily around the length of her ears. Decorating the upper edges of her ears is a run of three earrings: a pearl set in gold, an emerald cabochon in gold, then another pearl in gold.
Personality
Illisane never seems to relax. When hunting, she's focused with sharp intent on her quarry. When the task is finished, she seems to crouch in on herself, waiting to be sent after the next target, the next step.
When in social situations, there's no doubt that she is hiding who she is. She seems to have all the hauteur her race is known for, though her actual social standing might not warrant it. There's something about her that says she's playing a high-stakes game, but hasn't told anyone else the rules. There's no saying who her opponent is. Nothing she says seems casual.
She is only forthright in one aspect: the saving of her race. She is a vocal opponent of having joined the Horde and has little respect for the other Horde races. Nor does she favor joining the Alliance and its inept leadership, having a few choice words for basically anyone who came out of Lordaeron. She would prefer a third choice, one of race-by-race alliances with the Tauren, Night Elves, and Dwarves. The impossibility of this does not stop her from believing it is in the Blood Elves' best interests.
History
The Bloodstalkers were once named Sunstalkers, back before Arthas and the Scourge. The Sunstalkers birthed one or two mages, but for the most part they were rangers and Farstriders. Although the Farstriders themselves are not technically consider low status, there is no doubt that in High Elven society, mages were the most favored. Seeking status where they could, the Sunstalker rangers became best known for finding exotic pets and even starting a small breeding program of rare animals. They would permit these animals to be bonded outside the family, though infrequently and not without favor-for-favor.
By far the best animals bred were their giant black lions. Any cubs who did not have the mellanistic trait were neutered/spayed, then introduced into a wild pride by rubbing the cub with the feces of a lactating female in hopes she would adopt the cub. This method somehow still managed to fail, resulting in an occasional rare black lion being seen in the wild, though some argue for simple genetic mutation rather than careless neuter surgery.
During the Second War, in her early 100s, Illisane fought with the Alliance when orcs & trolls managed to burn down the forests of Quel'Thelas. She was very vocal in expressing her disdain of human leadership, calling them fractioned and scattered and lacking in any real plan or strategy. Her protests only became louder after the devastating loss of Alleria Windrunner through the Dark Portal, again with no real clear goal or strategy.
Illisane's dislike of humans did not improve when the erstwhile Prince Arthas marched his undead army through Eversong and into Silvermoon itself. Illisane was under the command of Ranger Lord Sylvannas Windrunner, a name and commander she trusted without reservation. When Arthas slew, then raised, Sylvannas, Illisane was badly hurt as she refused to fight Sylvannas, believing her Ranger General could still be awakened from within her Banshee shell.
Illisane credits her survival to Sylvannas as well, saying the Ranger General chose to soften her attack enough to change a killing blow into one that simply rendered her unfit for battle. This along with her poor view of human leadership is why Illisane has followed her kind into the Horde, though with mixed emotions.
The devastation of the high elves almost saw an end to the Sunstalker line. There are still a few, scattered here and there. Some of the mage line survived the destruction of Dalaran. There are some branches of the family, though none intact. Thus, the majority of the wealth of the Sunstalkers has fallen to Illisane.
It is she who chose the name Bloodstalker, when the remaining elves in Quel'Thelas chose to rename themselves the Sin'Dorei to honor their fallen. Their animal bloodlines were wiped out, and her goal for her family is first to re-establish those long-curated lines. To that end, she has recently found and tamed a young black male lion to serve as the possible foundation sire. She intends to establish herself in Sin'dorei society, and is never seen in less than impeccable clothing in public.
Relationships
| Eshelore A young black lion, just coming into his full mane. He is never far from Illisane's side, and regards the rest of the world with eyes exactly the same shade as hers. His name is the Thalassian word for "Eclipse". |
