RP Hooks

  • Draenei: Literally any draenei who crashed in the Exodar pretty much know each other, and Icaros is well known even as fellow Draenor-exiles go, due to his age and experiences.
  • Ebon Blade: He is already making a name for himself as an obedient yet intelligent member of the tightly focused organization. Other death knights should know him to be reliable and easy to work with.
  • Argent Dawn: Argent Dawn members might remember him, because a Draenei frost mage was such a peculiar thing to have among their ranks. They might also remember that he died. Worst case, they remember his return at the Battle of Light's Hope.

Appearance

Tall with storm-gray skin, craggy features, and expressionless, luminous blue eyes. Despite his undead state he dresses and grooms himself fastidiously. He wears his sable hair in a thick fishtail braid held with a jeweled clasp, and his elegantly groomed facial hair frames the single gold-banded tentacle that descends from his chin.

He was lean for his kind even in life; in death he verges on skeletal, though his broad shoulders and sturdy frame hint at the unholy strength that reveals itself in battle. The aura around him is icy cold, both literally and metaphorically.

Personality

Scholarly • Pragmatic • Elegant • Relentless

Even in life, Icaros was considered cold and unapproachable: a frost mage with a chip on his shoulder. Death has done nothing to change either that or his tendency to be neatly groomed and well dressed. It's just changed his definition of "well dressed" to include a matching set of spiky saronite armor.

Death has also not changed his scholarly mindset, and his nigh-complete lack of interest in anything that isn't to do with the gathering and cataloguing of knowledge. If anything, it has removed distractions and made him all the more focused on his current area of interest (the use of inscription to augment magical ability).

What death did seem to completely reset and reverse was his former pathological indecisiveness: the reason he failed to advance far in the Augari and ultimately (rather than any moral quandary) the reason he declined thirteen thousand years ago to follow his idol Archimonde into a quest to destroy the universe. All confusion, second-guessing, and hesitation has apparently been wiped from the ancient mage's brain by his death and replaced with a single-minded focus that borders on ominous.

This character cannot be romanced. (Not that anyone asked.)

History

Thirteen thousand years ago, Icaros was a member of the Augari, specifically the Scholars' Order, at the Conservatory of the Arcane in Eredath. He was inclined to go along with Master Archimonde's plan to ally with Sargeras until his twin brother Icolos urged him to follow Velen into exile. Icaros then spent millennia wondering if he made the right decision.

After crashing on Azeroth, he began to rebuild his largely-forgotten arcane skills (specializing in frost) and reluctantly joined the Alliance, becoming a member of the Argent Dawn just a few months before his death. He was raised by the Lich King's forces in advance of the assault on Light's Hope Chapel, and after the battle he once again found himself on the right side of history only by the narrowest coincidence.

These days, when not called into service by the Ebon Blade, he wanders the earth studying plant samples and the magical properties of the inks that can be created from them. The fact that this is an interest shared by his ex-lover Paluuva, and that he updates her constantly on his progress, is the closest he comes to a meaningful relationship.

Relationships

Icolos

Icolos
Icaros has an identical twin. Even when Icaros was alive, their personalities and lifestyles could not be more different.
Paluuva
They dated for a long time, even by draenei standards, but she eventually severed the relationship when he refused to have children with her. Now he is her inscription apprentice. It's not awkward at all.
Roper
His closest associate in the Ebon Blade, who was part of his training cohort and later with him at the battle of Light's Hope Chapel. Occasionally he gives Icaros assignments.
Erixa
They worked together when he was alive and a mage, and she has recently made contact again in an effort to understand death knights. It is unclear if he has been helpful.
Syarra
Another death knight who was part of the cohort who fought together at the battle of Light's Hope, and the one who gave him the alias "Forge," by which he is more commonly known among death knights..
