Appearance
Jonas is, like all his kin, unmistakably a Hazan. He's a tall young man, brown-skinned and black-haired, with a familiar smile and a permanently — perhaps inherently — boyishly-tousled look. He's lean and narrowly built, and his manner is quiet, watchful and self-contained. His eyes are a muddy hazel color, sometimes brown, sometimes green, mostly not quite either.
Personality

Jonas is a wanderer, accustomed to a life on the move; he's thrifty and resourceful, good at managing people and wary of engaging them for long. He's a woodsman and hunter, more by necessity than anything, though an impoverished childhood in Silverpine Forest invested him not just with the skills but also a native comfort.
He is generous in a casual fashion: Though he has been known to bask in an occasional moment of good fortune, he has no qualms about throwing it someone else's way, comfortable in his ability to make do with less.
He is a voracious reader and talented artist. Books, notebooks, and pencils are among the very few luxuries he indulges.

History
Jonas was born in Silverpine Forest to southern transplant Isak Hazan and his wife, schoolteacher Marin. His restless father was a mercenary and traveled often and for long periods; at the outbreak of the Second War, he enlisted as a regular in the Alliance army to drive back the orcish threat. As the embers of that war burned out, King Terenas Menethil of Lordaeron considered the threat of a new Horde invasion and appointed a force to cross through the Dark Portal in a counter-invasion of the orcish homeworld. Isak Hazan volunteered as one of these Sons of Lothar. He crossed the Portal with Turalyon's force, and was not heard from again.
Jonas was barely a toddler when his father vanished, but his mother raised him on tales of the man's heroism and courage. Whether this was simply to stanch the wound of his absence — for Jonas or for herself — the boy learned to idolize a man he did not remember.
Before the outbreak of the Third War, when Genn Greymane built his wall and partitioned the forest against the squabbling Alliance, Jonas and his mother left Silverpine. They moved from town to town for a time, Marin picking up work as a schoolteacher or nanny or seamstress and young Jonas working to provide as he could. The ugly tide of the Third War drove them south from Lordaeron to the relative refuge of Stromgarde and then to the coast of Hillsbrad.
After the war, Marin Hazan eventually found employment as a governess and tutor in the home of a respected Southshore family. Jonas worked for the same family for a time in their stables, and after a few months' courtship became engaged to a maid in the household.
The engagement ended abruptly, and with that awkwardness hanging over him and no particular advantage or advancement in the job, he struck out restlessly again, this time on his own.
