Identity

  • Westfall Girl: The Whittles are a Westfall family originally. Though they left their farm behind and moved to the city, they have roots that go back many generations in the west.
  • You Had to Be There: Gwen's jokes aren't always the best, but her delivery is sincere and full of childlike glee. She has even found that her bad jokes (and the occasional verbal sound effects) aid her in focusing when casting spells.
  • Noble…Wait, Really???: Gwen has only recently become aware that she carries noble blood in her veins. Technically she and her mother are the last scions of the fallen House Chandrey. Though…it's hard to inherit a whole lot of nothing. So, the title is fairly meaningless and she has no intention of laying any claim to it.

Mages & Magic

  • Now You’re Thinking With Portals: Gwen is a telemancy prodigy. She possesses a seemingly instinctive understanding of spatial mechanics and is able to accomplish telemantic feats far beyond what should be possible for her age and training. Need a lift somewhere? Something important sent quickly and securely? Gwen is more than happy to serve the needs of friends and the Alliance.
    • THAT Gwenivene Whittle?: Gwen earned widespread fame for her her breakthrough in telemantic research that found the means to safely open portals between Outland and Azeroth. She is always quick to point out she was aided by several others. But, ultimately, she tends to get the credit no matter what she says.
  • Sanctum Mage: Gwenivene spent several years training in the Sanctum in Stormwind City as the student of the crotchety old Archmage Purdwick. Other Sanctum mages may know her!
  • Kirin Tor: Due to her accomplishments in telemancy, Gwen has earned a place in the Kirin Tor and is considered a rising star in their ranks.

Appearance

Gwen is on the shorter side of average height, with the softness that comes from living too long with city comforts, despite her rural origins. Vibrant red hair frames her face in a short bob that bounces with her energetic movements. Her freckled features regularly light up with a near-perpetual smile and boundless, infectious enthusiasm.

Personality

Resourceful ✧ Impulsive ✧ Vibrant ✧ Ardent

Boundlessly enthusiastic and stubbornly persistent about whatever she sets herself to, Gwenivene is a force to be reckoned with. Like any force of nature, the chaos that ensues in her wake can be unpredictable when her impulsiveness gets the better of her. She means well, though; her actions are always motivated by her compassion and morals.

Romance

History

Born in Westfall where she lived with her family until she was 10 years old. The farm wasn’t producing enough grain, so the Whittles chose to leave it behind for Stormwind City, seeking a better life. A few years later, Gwenivene caught the attention of one Archmage Purdwick, who recognized her keen intellect and resourceful thinking. He offered to take her on as an apprentice and provided the Whittles financial support to compensate for the loss of a worker. Magic was a whole new world to Gwen; she took to it quickly, but not always with great precision or necessarily the intended effects. In time, Purdwick’s frustration with her lack of control turned to apathy, and she became more of a servant than an apprentice, leading her to seek mentorship elsewhere.

Gwen finally left Purdwick behind. Though still technically a mage in the Sanctum, young Gwenivene began spending most of her time training with her new master, the gnome Jocoza Sparkwire. Jocoza's unorthodox methods proved supremely effective in unlocking Gwen's talents with spatial magic and transmutation. Her gifts did not go unnoticed by various forces much greater than herself. Forces such as the Kirin Tor.

As a probationary member of the Kirin Tor, Gwenivene was placed on a team at Nethergarde Keep to study the Dark Portal. During that time, it was her insights on telemantic spatial mechanics that led her to develop the formulae that would allow for safe magical translocation between worlds. Of course, to test it she needed to go through the Dark Portal, which she was strictly forbidden to do. She was so certain of her calculations that she went through anyway. With the help of another member of the Kirin Tor and the warlock Gausanders Spellbond, she was able to perfect the method.

Though she faced some minor disciplinary action for disobeying her superiors, the Kirin Tor couldn't come down too hard on their new celebrity. Gwenivene Whittle's fame spread quickly as the hero who made it possible for those trapped on Outland to return to Azeroth.

Since then, she has become a rising star of the Kirin Tor. Her master of telemancy at such a young age has earned her accolades and respect among her peers and masters. There is chatter that she will be acknowledged as an archmage — possibly the youngest in Kirin Tor history — though Gwen remains blissfully ignorant of the talk.

Relationships

Art

Art
Art is an up-and-coming (and gosh so pretty) mage. He was sent to Tabetha in the swamp, and put up a notice asking for Cobalt assistance. So of course I'm gonna help! What a mind he has. I could spend days picking through his brain.
Archmage Celica
Magistrix Coriene Bloodsong
Ekorenine Spellbond
Sir Elohad Ference
Sir Elohad…Lord Ference…I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to call him. Anyway, he's very wise and kind. He always listens when I'm having trouble figuring out the right thing to do, and he's always willing to give good advice. It's amazing how much he reminds me of Papa.
Florande
I first encountered Florande in the Crystalsong Forest when we met with Kirygosa. She appeared again later when we were helping Art with his Tabetha Tasks. She's very brave and so kind.
Lord Gethennis Jadelight
Gerhold Fauntleroy
Mister Fauntleroy is not at all what I thought a mage of the Violet Citadel would be like. He's so relaxed and approachable. He has a way of making you feel at ease. I thought for sure I'd have ruined my shot at the Kirin Tor when I went against orders to bring the telemancy research through the Dark Portal to him. Instead he made a probationary novice of the Violet Citadel! He keeps surprising me. I just hope Jo is okay with all of this; I don't want her to think anyone could ever replace her.
Jocoza Sparkwire
Jo is the greatest mage of all time! She understands me like Master Purdwick never did. Her lessons unlocked something inside me and it's like this floodgate opened. She has this wonderful way of working with an apprentice, rather than just lecturing at me. It felt like she was just as eager to explore what I was capable of as I was, and to listen to my thoughts about how the magic took shape in my mind. Maybe it's a gnomish thing, that natural curiosity and constant need to learn and absorb new information. We humans could afford to take a few notes from gnomes.
Kirygosa
Kiry is so sweet and compassionate. It's no wonder she felt compelled to stand against her dragonflight. Amey is still wary around her, because of what happened with the netherwings and Malygos. I hope she'll feel my friendship with Kiry through our bond, and maybe it will help to convince her this is one blue dragon she can trust.
Kaerix
It's KYE-riks. Gotta remember to pronounce that right. She's such a sweet lady. And ohmygosh she wears her hair in the cutest pigtails.
Lena Coit
Lena is so cool! She really gets me, and I think I get her too. At least, as much as she's shown me. I got the feeling there's some painful stuff she doesn't want to talk about yet. That's okay, I'll be here when she's ready.
Mordecai Aspenwood
Sweet Mordecai. He's a precious soul, and he saved my soul when I…when Malygos ended me. He brought me back from the brink.
Rae Westwind
She was pretty grumpy when we first met. But I guess I can understand why. She used to be with the Scarlet Crusade, and they seem like a rough bunch. I don't think they treated her very well, and she got some pretty strange ideas with them…like being afraid of magic. But I think we've had a breakthrough, and I'm sure we're going to be friends!
Sandy Spellbond
My guy! I have a boyfriend! Sandy is the sweetest guy in the world…in any world! He gets judged a lot for being a warlock, but he's the proof that warlocks are just people. I confess, some of the things I've seen him cast made me worry, but he assured me it was all safe. I trust him.

Companions

Padrick Padrick
Padrick is definitely just a regular old tree frog. I mean, sure…he showed up around the same time as the apprentice across the hall from me disappeared. Aaand, yeah…he was in Apprentice Padrick's bed…and clothes…and we'd been studying polymorphing that day. But that doesn't prove anything! Still, I should probably take extra good care of froggy Padrick, just in case.
Pookie Pookie
Gwen's studies in Dalaran have taken her far, including learning how to conjure her own arcane familiar! Pookie is proving to be a very useful assistant.

Mounts

Amethyraku
I just couldn't turn a blind eye to the plight of these poor, magnificent beings. Now, Amey has asked to accompany me on my journeys. I was so honored that I started crying on the spot and she worried that she'd offended me. But we're starting to understand each other now. We've formed a kind of psychic bond due to her telepathic powers.
Gethennis Gethennis
I was just so honored to be allowed to ride a Quel'dorei steed! Then, of course, I had to think of an appropriate name. I probably should have researched Thalassian names better. I could only think of one. It felt weird at first; I didn't particularly like the other Gethennis…even though he was very…very pretty. But…it won't matter anyway. It's not like anyone else I know is likely to know that Geth! Haha!
Whinny Whinny
Aegwhinny is such a good horse! She reminds me a lot of our old plough horse back on the farm. Only…faster. A lot faster! I just mean she's really sweet. Oh, and she loves puns! One time, I told her we could just trot at a leisurely pace, "I don't carrot all". She whinnied! Hehe…Whinny whinnied. I just made myself laugh.
Grace Grace
"In recognition for extraordinary service to the Alliance and the Sha'tar…" That's what they said when they brought Grace to me. I was floored; my very own gryphon! I hardly feel deserving, but now that Grace and I are together, I can't imagine being apart. She is already so loyal. I can see how the Wildhammer dwarves have formed such a strong bond with these amazing creatures.
