Appearance
Elston is a man in his thirties with tidy black hair and he would be startlingly handsome if he wouldn't scowl so much. Average height, broad across the shoulders, more comfortable in armor than in clothes, always watching for trouble. He looks suspicious of everything, but he's incredibly interesting to horses, who will come to him if they have a chance. His features smooth out and he's almost a different person.
His own mount, Temperance, is astonishingly well trained. She's a short, bunchy looking buckskin mare, calm as a still pond and unwilling to coddle nonsense.
Personality
Impatient ⬥ Dutiful ⬥ Prudent ⬥ Impressionable
"It's easy to sneer at those trying to do some good with their lives when that's never troubled you personally. When you've made the best choice you could and watched it fall apart anyway, you might see things differently."
Elston may be a paladin and an able enough fighter, but he's as horse-mad as a girl and always will be. All of his defensiveness and world-weariness falls to the ground when there's a horse that needs him.
He's amiable enough. Not prone to compete for leadership, but if he senses trouble, he'll question then. He'll never put an opinion forward first if he can help it.
History
Elston was too young to have a hand in Alterac's betrayal of the alliance, but even an unlettered peasant child knows when they don't deserve the misery served them. When the Knights of the Silver Hand came, promising to relieve the endless toil and near starvation of the mines, he followed. He made himself useful in the stables. When Milan and some brother knights (including young Arthas Menethil) encountered him and asked if he wanted to be head stableman when he was grown, he said no. He wanted to be a Knight of the Silver Hand, like Milan, and like His Highness.
Arthas, amused, invited him to practice. Elston, strong from a full day's work in the stable and a stouter diet than he'd had in the mines, did well enough to be invited back and his training began. Older knights treated him fairly and kindly, particularly the veterans who had become paladins after fighting in war. Sir Elohad Ference asked after his training and other small talk through the years of training, and Elston did his best to encourage the new trainees where he could. They were in a war, but they had the light, and with the light, how could they go wrong?
That wasn't the first misguided but well-meaning choice Elston ever made, and it wasn't the last. When Arthas ordered the scourging of Lordaeron, Elston refused, following his hero Uther…and then Alexandros Mograine, after Uther's death. Joining the Scarlet Crusade made sense after Mograine explained it. They had to fight the scourge. That wasn't even a question. But when the remnants of the Scarlet Crusade joined with the Argent Dawn, Elston gratefully escaped that embarrassment into what had to be the right cause this time.
Now the Lich King is dead. But the scourge remains in Loraderon. A greater threat rises from the earth…and Elston is among those Argent Crusade Knights released to bring aid to Azeroth.
Elston is tired of the results of his own choices. But so much needs to be done…
