- Paladins/Knights of the Silver Hand/Argent Crusade/The Light: He is ready and willing to talk about paladins, and the Light at any time. Be prepared that he can and will quote the Tomes from memory.
- Mt. Hyjal/Theramore: He was there at the battle, and he was in Theramore since it's construction up to early Year 25.
- Mordecai/Cressidha: If you know either of them, he is the guy to chat to about them. They are his People.
- Twilight's Hammer: He's got a long standing beef with this cult group.
- Scarlet Crusade: A significant aspect of his arc for becoming a Holy paladin. He will be friendly towards any Scarlets who have left the Crusade, and will be willing to talk to current Crusaders.
- Stormwind Nobility: He almost certainly not only knows your family, but you may be actually acquainted, if you are from a noble house.
- Aspenwood Wine: He can talk about the family wine with clear specifications at any time.
Appearance
6'0", with a slim athletic build except for his shoulders, which are broader than average for his frame. He shares his sister's wheat blonde hair and cold gray-blue eyes, and they bear a strong resemblance to each other with a Classic Aspenwood nose and strong jawline. Although he rarely smiles when he isn't around his sister, his husband, or one of his close friends, his face is amiable and polite, and he has very symmetrical features.
Colson does not make big expressions, with few exceptions; most of his expressiveness is in micro-expressions and slight movements of his face. He looks neutral most often, and is often found to be inscrutable by people who don't have extremely high perception in reading emotions and faces or people who know him very well.
He moves with a natural grace that has been honed further by his mannerisms, and he is quieter than it seems he should be, for a man in full plate. His armor is always extremely well kept, and these days, he is mostly in a dark gold and dark blue set.
Tattoos
His left arm is covered shoulder to wrist in a tattoo of words, with most quotes pulled from the Tomes of Light and other important writings of the Light, as well as the paladin vows.
His speaking voice is a mid-range baritone (voice claim John Park), and his singing voice is a lyrical (lower range) tenor that is classically trained but sounds very unremarkable (voice claim, a less expressive/interesting version of David Archuleta).
Personality
Lawful • Compassionate • Devoted • Patient
ALIGNMENT: LAWFUL GOOD
Lawful Good is his way of life in more ways than one. Despite his commitment to traditions and rules, he is not unwilling to work alongside those who do not share his values so long as they can agree on a common goal. Stoic and controlled, he nonetheless feels things very deeply, which is made manifest in his undeniable skill in healing. His love for the Light is matched only by his love for his sister Cressidha. Colson is a loving husband, and deeply affectionate as a friend to those he cares for greatly. People often find it easy to trust Colson, as he is genuinely exactly what he seems to be: the holy calm compassion and polite mildness are not a mask he wears to impress people; it's who he really is.
He has committed fully to the life of a Holy Paladin, and has cultivated his beliefs about the balance between Compassion and Retribution for his personal path as a servant of the Light. For a long time, Colson was unable to weaponize the Light in Combat, drawing from Compassion even for harm — only since exploring the other side of himself has Colson finally come into greater balance as a paladin. As a paladin, Colson does not consider the "live your life in service to the Light and others" as a suggestion; he has a deep commitment to others, and to aiding the innocent.
He has strong beliefs about the necessity of equality and equity in society, despite acting within the obligation of his family's social position. Colson can and will leverage his family name on other people's behalf, but never his own. As a noble, Colson has been trained in all manner of things, from proper manners to playing piano to dancing to correct forms of address.
The Knight-Captain (top left), Lord Colson (top right), The Holy Paladin (lower left), the Lieutenant (lower right)
Colson often feels and behaves as though there are different sides of his personality: The Knight-Captain (a forceful, decisive leader willing to act on behalf of others in a leadership or protective role), Lord Colson (his most Society appropriate self, that he believes his parents and eldest brother would approve of, who is capable of circulating within the highest circles of Polite Nobility with ease), The Holy Paladin (all the aspects of his most holy self that has taken the words of the tomes to true gospel of the mind and heart, guided by his vows to a near extreme), and The Lieutenant (the blend of partial leadership and guidance, as well as support, for Cobalt Company). Those who know him well often see that Colson is always all of these — always "Colson", no matter what he seems to be wearing at the moment.
This Character Is In A Monogamous Marriage And Cannot Be Romanced
Colson is married to Mordecai Aspenwood.
Colson is a soft romance.
Colson is bisexual, can be attracted to any gender, but he is more easily attracted to men. He is attracted to smaller, delicate men, and larger, muscular women. He is not attracted to those more than 3 years younger than him or more than 5 years older than him. He can be attracted to dwarves, humans, elves, and draenei, but is more likely to pursue a human, especially nobility.
Colson is a slow burn romance in that he takes time to fall for someone, but once he does, his feelings are very strong. He will not develop feelings for someone who does not have feelings for him, however, even if Colson isn't fully aware of their feelings for him. Colson is not capable of very casual relationships, although this does not mean he cannot experience a serious relationship with heartbreak with OOC discussion.
Colson is attracted to wounded people, and in his romance, he needs to be someone they want Colson to save them or help them, and want a "white knight fantasy." He is attracted to people who are gentle, practical, kind, cute, tenacious, feisty, faithful, and devoted. He is not attracted to people who say one thing and mean another, or whose key codes rely on facial expressions and body language. He is not attracted to people who are ruthless, mercenary, cruel, close-minded, thoughtless, blunt, or stoic.
As a partner, Colson is a monogamous partner who requires monogamy in his partner due to the pressure of his family's position where it would be assumed a public facing relationship would lead to marriage, but he does not experience jealously about a partner's emotions. He is extremely devoted to a partner, and his dream is to be of support to someone as an unshakeable cornerstone. He tends to step out of the spotlight when possible, but he thrives in environments when he can be a shield or comfort to his partner, who genuinely wants him to do so. Colson is a very romantic person, and he will go full sappy with absolutely no reserve. He will be happiest with people who will verbalize their feelings for him, and often.
No Casual Romance Option.
History
BIRTHDAY: NOVEMBER 2ND, YEAR 0
Colson was born in the old city of Stormwind the year the Dark Portal opened to a high noble house (Duke/Duchess level by standard British nobility concepts) of Stormwind. His family fled the fall of Stormwind, and Colson was raised with his sister Cressidha on the Varley's farm until it was safe to return to the newly rebuilt city.
When his sister Cressidha was struggling with mastering her powers as a frost mage, Colson decided to attempt to learn how to heal himself to assist her. He showed an aptitude for the Light, and it was suggested to him that he join the open call for people to attempt to become a paladin. Colson was selected by Saidan Dathrohan (among many other hopefuls) for the Holy Libram, where Colson studied in Lordaeron for several months until he was selected to be a paladin. He officially joined the Knights of the Silver Hand at age 18, and studied for a year to master his powers, and was considered a disappointment. He was unable to fully demonstrate the range of Holy powers, and when the call when out to aid Lady Jaina Proudmoore, Colson left Lordaeron to follow her.
In the time leading up to the Battle of Mt. Hyjal, Colson discovered he was capable of healing their new Horde and Kaldorei allies, and forged a bond with an orc named Sarog Warsong, a young warrior who remained by Colson's side through the weeks and the final battle. At Mt. Hyjal Colson remained in the final third camp where the Kaldorei held the last line of defense before the World Tree. Colson did not cultivate many human relationships during those days, but he did form a strong connection of respect with the kaldorei.
After the battle, he went with Lady Jaina Proudmoore to Theramore, where he was promoted to Knight Lieutenant out of turn based on his family's name. He spent several years at the level, until he was promoted once again in Year 24 to Knight Captain, following several highly successful operations. In Year 25, Colson's request to leave the army was granted, and he was given an honorable discharge. He spent three months in Teldrassil and Ashenvale after, wandering the areas, doing any work or job that anyone wished of him for aid. He met many kaldorei during that time, and spent two weeks wearing furry underwear in honor of the druidic traditions.
In the summer of Year 25, Colson joined Cobalt Company to rejoin his sister, who he had always intended to work alongside, since childhood. He was paired with several other paladins, who were much newer to the order, and formed a bond with one of them in particular, and a tentative friendship with the other. Things came to a head when an altercation got out of hand, which led to Colson being put on Probation, which he took very seriously.
In the autumn of Year 25, Colson was made a Lieutenant of Cobalt Company, and joined the front squads to work alongside his sister in the Plaguelands. This led to an eventual confrontation with the Scarlet Crusade and Sir Dathrohan, and a long delayed breakthrough for Colson's ability to use a fuller range of the Light's powers.
Colson is a squad member, following Cobalt Company through the Dark Portal and into Outland. He lived in Telredor, Zangarmarsh for several months, and currently resides in Telaar, Nagrand.
On March 19th, Year 26, he married the love of his life, Mordecai Aspenwood (né Harbrooke). The wedding was massive, with around 300 guests, and very well attended by the Eastern Kingdom nobility.
Mordecai and Colson on their wedding day
Relationships
Cressidha
Colson's (older by 30 minutes) twin sister, and one of the two most important people in his life; she's the reason he joined the army, and the reason he left it. They understand each other in ways that others don't, and she is his heart. |
Mordecai
Colson's husband, married March 19 Year 26 (formerly Cressidha’s fiancé), the love and light of Colson's life, the other half of the two most important people to Colson: his shield, his angel, his beacon, his soul itself. He would do anything for Mordecai. Anything. |
Mother
Colson’s mother, who he has always felt close to for their shared mannerisms. He tries to write to her regularly, although he always prioritized Cressidha more. |
Father
Colson’s father, whose interests in gardening is what inspired Colson’s own interest in botany. They have a warm relationship, but time and distance have created a habitual lack of interaction, if no alteration in Colson’s affection for his father. |
Bertrand
Colson’s (now) eldest brother. As one of the few Aspenwoods really capable of code switching in social situations, Colson has always felt that Bertrand is who people wish Colson would be more like. They have a positive relationship, but not an especially close one. |
Amadeus
Colson’s older brother, once the eldest of the Aspenwood children, who died during the Cataclysm Shattering. For most of his teens and adulthood, Colson considered Amadeus the person to aspire to become, the man Colson wished he was. That evolved after his marriage to Mordecai, but some part of Colson will always feel as though Amadeus was the ideal to strive to become. |
Lucy
Something of Colson's sister-in-law technically, as the former wife of Colson's husband's brother Gavin, and later the sister of Colson’s brother Bertrand, what really matters is that Lucy was there when Colson needed her most, and while Colson always found her manner somewhat difficult to read, he enjoyed her company. He was forever grateful to her quick thinking, and admired her competency and intelligence. He attempted to resurrect her at the final assault of Icecrown after the Lich King killed those fighting there, but was unsuccessful. |
Priscilla
Bertrand’s wife, and Lucy’s sister, who Colson has a positive relationship with, though not especially close. |
Gardenia
Amadeus’ widow, and mother of the heir to House Aspenwood, Arnold Aspenwood. Colson has only a passing acquaintance relationship with her. |
Sil
A long time friend of Colson's, who Colson respects and likes, both for Sil's dedication to cheer, as well as his newfound sense of diligence and responsibility. |
Dane
A warrior comrade, Colson has vowed to stand by Mr. Atley's side through any battlefield. Colson stood as Knight's Witness for Dane's knighting, a great moment of pride for Colson. They do not always see eye-to-eye on subjects surrounding mercy or respect for the enemy, but they have a companionable understanding of respect between them. |
Estel
Colson's Priestess Pen Pal, who he respects and likes in equal measures. He's rather fond of her casual compassion and friendliness. She is responsible for saving Mordecai's life, and she has his eternal gratitude as well as a handmade cheesecake. When Colson needs someone to test out his jewelry for errors in the enchantments, she's the one he asks. |
Ben
Colson has vowed to back him through anything, as a Lord Ference and a Lieutenant of Cobalt Company. Ben was best man at Colson’s wedding. |
Aszera
A friend of Mordecai's more than Colson’s, and someone Colson views with compassion and empathy for the journey she has taken becoming a Demon Hunter and defecting from Illidan's army because of it. |
Callum
Colson was once their Knight-Captain and leader in the Alliance Army in Theramore, and part of their stabilization as their chosen identity as Callum. After the Wrathgate left Callum struggling, Colson helped them find another temporary balance, but it’s an ongoing project. |
Captain
Colson has a lot of respect for Jo, even if their relationship is still fairly formal. He understands her struggle with balancing the burdens of command and her own inclinations, and thinks that she has the right instinct to take care of her own that fit for a mercenary company. |
Sir Ference
A fellow paladin and one of the leadership of Cobalt Company, Colson holds Elohad in a respectful esteem. |
Lady Ference
Colson has nothing but respect for any Priestess of the Light, but he has particular respect for the mother-aunt of Ben and wife of Elohad. He has supplied her with herbs, cheese, and coffee, as is proper due for a priestess. When he needed help learning how to make Holy Water, Niris was the one who make it possible for Colson to learn a temporary emergency use version. |
Auralind
One of those who have been in the position of leadership within Cobalt Company, Colson has worked with her in the field on squad in Northrend. They have some differences at times on mercy, but they do both share a hard line on their own moralities, and Colson respects her for remaining true to her values. |
Paluuva
One of Cobalt Company’s leadership, who Mordecai reached out to for assistance in learning the technique of inscription. |
Lena
An acquaintance from Theramore, Colson respects and likes Lena, despite his usual reservations around warlocks, for her dedication to remaining in control of her path. He once pulled some amount of rank in ensuring that she had access to Warlock books at the Ironforge HQ, and has since maintained a cordial relationship. |
Sandy
Although Colson had his doubts about the young warlock, experiences have led Colson to have faith in Sandy as a user of fel magic, and a young man still figuring out who he is, what he believes in, and what he wants to uphold. |
Ralaea
Colson's "rival," Colson vowed to see her disease lifted, which it was in Year 27. He respects her tenacity and sympathizes with her need to be of use, even to the point of self-sacrifice, though he would rather she learn to temper her impulses with caution. |
Anareline
A kaldorei warrior that Colson met in his time finding his way after leaving the army, where they spoke of the power of waiting for the Light to show a path forward, through service. He holds her in respectful esteem, and has promised that should Caspis ever die in the line of duty on the squads, that he will remind Caspis of his connection to Anareline and return to life. |
Caspis
A druid that Colson met during his time in Teldrassil after he left the army where they spoke of kaldorei culture and human history, most recently they have worked together on Cobalt’s forward squads in Northrend and Mt. Hyjal. |
Marina
Cressidha’s water elemental, who has worked alongside the squads ever since the discovery of her bracers in Shadowmoon Valley in Outland. Colson has no idea what she’s saying, but he’s polite to her all the same. |
Erixa
A fellow paladin, Colson’s been acquainted with her since Cobalt’s foray into Outland, where she provided valuable insight into the draenei’s culture and relationship with the naaru, in particular the history of when naaru go void. They have worked together on a number of Cobalt’s missions, and Colson respects her leadership and sympathizes with the complexity of her path as a paladin. |
Alysson Mondragon
A cheerful young man who Colson feels needs a steadying, responsible oversight to flourish. Colson has worked with him on squad before, and feels that the young man’s heart and intent is in the right place, and should be encouraged. Colson is careful to use very precise language around Alysson, and a judicious use of the word no for the man’s and other’s safety. |
Lady Ismene
Colson greatly respects Ben's wife, and Mordecai's friend, and is forever grateful for the advice she gave Mordecai as his Matron of Honor. |
Celaven
A priest of Elune and Anareline’s son, they have a passing acquaintance among Cobalt’s members. |
Mrs. Ivrianna Atley
Once a penpal that startled Colson into laughter with a sausage after a misunderstanding on enchanted rings, Mrs. Atley’s descent into a darker place meant their relationship dropped away, but Colson encouraged Cressidha to maintain the friendship if she could, to give Ivrianna a hand out of the darkness if she would take it. |
Miss Jenzelle Halveris
One of the Scarlet Crusade’s former priestesses of the Light, and now a member of Cobalt, Colson was one of those who believed in her mission to offer redemption and a way out for the Scarlet Crusaders. He admires her empathy and her devotion to the tenets of the Light in what has sometimes been very challenging reality. |
Miss Oranna Stormbreaker
One of Cobalt’s administrative people, Colson has exchanged many polite social niceties with paperwork. He’s also helped her with ice skating, and was astonished to learn that she thinks he’s “easy ta read.” |
Velrin Silverbloom
One of the people Colson has worked with on squad in Northrend and Outland, and a counseling patient of Mordecai’s. Colson attempted to reach out in friendship before, but was rebuffed and when told to go away, Colson obliged. He maintains a cordial working relationship with the former sentinel. |
Nunuzac
One of Cobalt’s members who Colson has worked with multiple times, through volcanoes and against cataclysmic Void demons. |
Ace Stormhammer
A fellow paladin within Cobalt Company, Colson has worked with her in squads in Northrend. |
Azizia
One of Colson’s coworkers on the squads in Northrend and recently in Mt. Hyjal. He has tried to impress upon her that he would rather her address him by his given name in the field, but Azizia often finds alternatives anyway, most of which aren’t technically correct. |
Miss Gwenivene Whittle
Colson has worked with Miss Whittle in a number of Cobalt operations, as well as on squad. He finds her skill as a mage admirable, and he has compassion for her commitment to pacifism, but he doesn’t believe that it works well in many of the usual field conditions that Cobalt Company works with. |
Lode Fire Eyes
One of the druids in Cobalt company that Colson has worked with, and spoken to on the intricate biolife of Zangarmarsh. |
Brannagen Stillwall
Colson worked with the prospector during Northrend, and while they didn’t form any significant bond, Colson came to respect the priest for his own unique relationship with the Light and the world around him. |
THE Sevastyn Black
A member of Argent Crusade, and a brother in the Light, Colson holds Sir Black in the highest esteem and respect. |
Etone Greennote
A priest who Colson has worked with on a few notable occasions, who Colson respects, as he does generally all priests. Mordecai has hoped to get to study from Etone, and Colson supports the endeavor. |
Brother Vond Satterly
A fellow paladin who has assisted Cobalt Company on multiple occasions, and who has served as liaison to the Argent Crusade. Colson holds him in high esteem. |
Kit
A fellow paladin Colson met along his early path out of the army. Colson respects her choice of path, and wishes her success on holding her connection to the Light through tenacity and compassion. |
Dame Briellen Clay
One of the paladins Colson grew to know in the Argent Dawn, they have a cordial, if formal, relationship. |
Cheep
One of the Argent Dawn’s quartermasters, Colson relied on her assistance with Mordecai after the Battle of Light’s Hope Chapel. |
Therald Oakley
Sandy’s father, and a guard of the Argent Dawn who Colson knew during his time working in the Plaguelands. He encouraged Sandy to reach out to his father, and Therald in turn testified to Samson Harbrooke’s conduct during Mordecai’s trial. |
Lady Halliday Tyrrell
Colson was acquainted with Halliday in Theramore, and found her to be a charming young woman, once he understood that he needed to be very deliberate with his wording and language. |
Lady Alwynneria Demasco
Mordecai’s prosecution lawyer who worked the unusual case of prosecuting Mordecai’s father for crimes committed when Mordecai was a child, as well as later. She won the case, allowing for the sentencing of Lord Harbrooke, and she has Colson’s eternal gratitude for that. |
Lady Ambergris
Colson became acquainted with Zeldanna through his investigations trying to locate anyone who knew the Harbrookes before year 19, and she assisted him. Colson thinks well of her, particularly because her testimony in the Aspenwood v Harbrooke trial supported Mordecai completely. |
Lord Siamus Fallon
One of the naval marines who remained after Kul Tiras left the Alliance, a Captain in Theramore, although he has since risen to the level of Commodore (actually it's VICE ADMIRAL now, but okay), who was quite cordial at the Fallon-Ference Charity Gala, and was elected to the House of Nobles alongside Colson's mother. |
Lady Avrenne Esprit Fallon
The Duchess Esprit, a protegee of Colson's mother, who was a possible marriage option for Colson for a period of time. She has been polite as a social acquaintance. |
Captain Zath Tyrrell
A member of the 7th Legion, who has an interest in Cressidha, which Colson approves of, because his sister is the best woman in the world, obviously. |
Fi
She was once a fellow paladin, and comrade in the Light, a friend who Colson cherish. After her death, and resurrection as a Death Knight, Colson encountered her briefly on the battlefield of the Battle of Light's Hope Chapel, where he unintentionally harmed her with the Light in a Holy Shock intended to heal that burned the Death Knight instead. He has since reunited with her once more in service to the Argent Crusade, and offered to be once more a potential steadying point on her path. |
Roper
In Year 23, they worked together in the Alliance army on behalf of SI:7. Colson grew to have strong feelings about the agent, even going so far as to try to kiss the other man. Rebuffed, Colson believed his feelings were unrequited. For many years, Colson assumed the other man had simply disappeared. He learned eventually that Roper had died after completing his mission, and was raised as a Death Knight by the Lich King. His feelings about the Death Knight are complicated, to say the least. |
Syarra Sunstrike
Azsera’s sister and Roper’s wife, Colson does not trust the death knight as he doesn’t trust any of them, and his feelings about her time as a Blood Knight who forcibly took a naaru’s blessing for power complicates the matter further, but he maintains a polite respectful manner as the Light’s tenets say to do. |
Mr. Harvey Morningdew
Once a fellow paladin, and now a death knight, Colson has a complicated relationship with Harvey. Alive, Colson felt the man’s lack of compassion and careless words nearly cost Ralaea her life, and he showed his opinion in a bow. Dead, Colson encountered Harvey as a Scourge death knight at the Battle of Light’s Hope Chapel, where Harvey kept Colson from healing Brother Vond’s wounds, as the two fought. |
Miss Almeiria Fey
One of those involved in the harm done to Ralaea, Almeiria’s use of shadow in a collar on Ralaea was an act that Colson finds difficult to forgive. Her assistance with Alysson and later efforts as working against the Scourge were appreciated, but he is still wary of the shadow priestess. |
Alynnra Mondragon
The one responsible for Ralaea’s infection, Colson was a paladin-in-training at the same years in Lordaeron, though the two never interacted personally. He has compassion for her situation being complex, with the Watcher. |
Natai
A draenei jeweler in Shattrath who provided Colson with a reliable source of gems, and was instrumental in helping him develop a string of lights for Mordecai. Her bodyguard provided additional witness statements after Mordecai was stabbed in Shattrath, for which Colson is grateful. |
Lydia Harcourt
A paladin that Colson worked with alongside the Argent Crusade in cleansing Stratholme. |
Sir Gavynn
Colson and Gavynn met as paladin trainees back in year 18, and while they were amicable, there remained a distance between them as Gavynn maintained their different ranks of a knight vs a noble of Stormwind. Colson found Gavynn's loyalty admirable, but Colson was aware that it is also what has kept Gavynn with the Scarlet Crusade far longer than they deserve of the Knight of Eastweald, and with all that has happened to the order, Colson doubts that the knight is still alive. |
