- Cenarion Circle: Caspis teaches druids the ways of Restoration and Balance. Thanks to the transformative effect of Cobalt Company on Caspis's life, he has at long last become respected by many other members of the Cenarion Circle, and known by name to most. There are a few who still think him little more than a senile old man.
- Cobalt Company - The mercenary company changed his life, and so he has great respect for its leadership and considers its members his allies. He has served multiple times on one of their forward squads.
- Dragons: Caspis has served and defended the Aspects on several occasions. The Aspect of Time, in particular, owes Caspis a favor. Or perhaps Caspis owes him one. Nonlinear causality is a whole situation.
Appearance
Though it can be difficult to tell the age of a Kal'Dorei, this man has the calm, distant bearing of an elder member of his race. It's also quite likely that he has a leaf caught in his long midnight-blue hair. His eyes are a tranquil silver color under most circumstances, and his violet-hued face is angular and striking. He always wears a short beard.
All of his forms are dark in color, though his Claw forms are rarely seen. He most commonly becomes a great black stormcrow, especially for travel or when he is feeling unsocial. In battle he has been known to take a form some of his fellow druids facetiously call the Doomkin: a great, shaggy black owlbeast with baleful orange eyes and antlers like the blackened, skeletal branches of a burned tree.
Caspis moves slowly, seeming to wander even when he is headed somewhere in particular. His gaze is abstracted and he can often be caught staring into space. If he does make direct eye contact, his gaze can sometimes be unsettlingly intense and passionate.
His voice is deep and resonant, but usually very quiet, with a slow, languid quality as though he may be distracted or half asleep. Some find this sexy, others calming, still others find they cannot stay awake through his lectures.
Personality
Serious • Absent-Minded • Loving • Fierce
As one of Caspis's fellow druids once said, "If Caspis Silvershade could remember what he was doing from one minute to the next he might be downright dangerous."
Caspis is lacking in a sense of humor, and can have a savage temper at times, but he is not unkind - quite the opposite in fact. He forms attachments readily and deeply, and expresses his affection to the fullest extent the other is comfortable. His tendency toward fits of vengeful wrath is always aimed at those who have done harm to others and is tempered by his abstracted nature and difficulty in focusing on anything for an extended period of time.
For most of his life he was deeply and bitterly angry at Fandral Staghelm for a variety of reasons ranging from the political to the philosophical to the personal. Some even thought him obsessed. As for Staghelm himself, he thought of Caspis little if at all. When he did, it was to remind him of his mediocrity, or to make a point of forgetting his name. This caused Caspis a crisis of confidence that lasted millennia.
The Caspis of today is a man rediscovering hope, confidence, and self-respect. For all his flaws, he is still a caring, wise, learned, and increasingly powerful druid: a man of gravity, passion, and conviction who is an asset to any heroic endeavor.
This character is romanceable.
Caspis has already found his shalan, the mystical other half of his kaldorei soul, and because they also have a sexual relationship, he is in no deep need of further companionship or intimacy.
That said, he has a milennia-long habit of polyamorous behavior (druids be like that sometimes), and due to his generally affectionate nature and love of physical intimacy, he would be unlikely to turn down anyone interested in sex unless his shalan had particular beef with the interested party. He is unavailable for monogamous romance however, unless with Anareline.
Quirks
I don't have a very good memory, and also I won't be around forever. This is just a list of things to help me remember how to RP my guy properly, or to allow others to RP the guy if I'm no longer around.
- He often ends scenes with the emote, Caspis wanders off.
- "Hm" or "Mm" are his go-to filler noises when he belatedly realizes he is being spoken to.
- He cannot spend too long in cat or bear form without getting "stuck" that way.
- He frequently has bits of grass or leaves stuck somewhere on his person.
- He calls people by their full (first + last) names unless they are family or lovers.
- Though otherwise an inveterate carnivore, he very much enjoys tea.
- He understands the "soul" and "feelings" of plants but not their species or uses.
- He does leatherworking in his spare time, to honor his late father.
- He enjoys singing, and knows a huge variety of very old songs, but is unfortunately tone deaf.

History
Childhood of the Ancient (-10,000)
The son of a bard and a leatherworker, young Caspis spent his childhood traveling all over Kalimdor. He dined in sumptuous halls in great cities with friends of his Highborne mother, and learned the ways of the wild from his lower-class father.
During the early days of the War of the Ancients, ten-year-old Caspis and his parents were cornered by a pack of felhunters while traveling through the wilderness. His mother instructed him to climb a large tree as his father engaged the demons in battle. Caspis watched as the demons slew his father and then drained his fleeing mother's essence, leaving her a shriveled husk.
Caspis stayed in the tree for nearly two days before a party of soldiers rode by on nightsabers. Among them was young Anareline Evensong, who spotted Caspis. She was barely more than twenty, but she seemed to the young boy to be Elune incarnate. Entranced by her, Caspis came down from the tree, and she took him up into the saddle. Feeling not only safe but somehow more whole than he had his entire life, he clung to her as she rode to a safe place.
There was a war on, and so she left him there in the care of civilians. Caspis was heartbroken.
As soon as the war was over and the Sundering settled, Caspis took the first opportunity to run away from his caregivers and live alone in the woods. He was found years later, half-feral, by members of the new order of druids. Unsure what to do with this clearly nature-attuned but fiercely struggling boy, they caged him and called in their colleague Veilanda Starwander, who was able to calm him and took him on as her apprentice.
War of the Satyr (-9,300)
At around seven hundred years of age, Caspis - by now firmly aligned with the Druids of the Talon - joined other druids in fighting the satyrs led by Xalan. His shan'do, Veilanda Starwander, became part of the experiments with the lupine Pack form during this time. The only thing that saved her from the fate that befell the rest of the Druids of the Pack - the mindless worgen form - was that she was captured by satyrs before she could be cursed. Caspis eventually found and rescued her, but not before the satyr's torments had nearly robbed her of her sanity.
In the wake of the formation of the new Cenarion Circle - whose purpose was to establish rules and codes adhered to by all and thereby avoid tragedies like the fate of the worgen - Caspis worked for years to try to help and rehabilitate his beloved shan'do. In the end he failed, and she withdrew from society, eventually choosing to guard the slumbering worgen in the Emerald Dream indefinitely.
Caspis found himself adrift, and in his loneliness he slowly became obsessed with the fiery and charismatic young Fandral Staghelm.
Fandral's First Crime (-4,500)
After a few millennia of working his way into the inner circle of the man with whom he had become obsessed, Caspis was invited along with a small group of Fandral's other toadies confidants to accompany him on a special mission. A strange, maddening rocklike substance had begun to breach the surface of Azeroth and spread in various far-flung areas, and Fandral had a plan to eliminate it.
Fandral had stolen branches from the World Tree Nordrassil and intended to plant them at the sites of the corruption. His plan seemed to work at first, as the substance disappeared once the new great trees were planted at the sites. But in Northrend, the illicitly planted tree Andrassil grew so large that its roots breached the prison of the wounded Old God Yogg-Saron, whose blood - saronite - was the very substance the tree had been planted to eliminate.
Caspis saw the havoc wrought by the corrupted tree on the land and creatures around it, and took part in its merciful destruction. Shaken, he began speaking out against Fandral, but few had seen the horrors unleashed by Andrassil, and most viewed Fandral's unsanctioned actions as necessary and successful in the face of the saronite threat. Caspis's impassioned rants did deep damage to his own reputation rather than Fandral's. Increasingly alienated, he began to spend more and more time in the Emerald Dream and less in the waking world.
And no one yet knew the worst of Fandral's folly: that the contact between the Great Tree and an Old God had planted a slow-growing corruption in the Emerald Dream itself.
War of the Shifting Sands (-975)
Caspis was awake just in time to be drawn into the drama in Silithus. Fandral felt the need to claim and rejuvenate the desert for the kaldorei's use, and in the process he managed to disturb the slumbering qiraji and unleash the menace of the Old Gods upon his people. Again.
Caspis fought alongside other members of the Cenarion Circle to re-contain the qiraji, and during the conflict he witnessed the death of Fandral's son. His attempts at comforting Fandral were cruelly rebuffed, cementing Caspis's opinion that Fandral was soulless and beyond saving.
Perhaps aware of his own culpability, Fandral swore Caspis and the other participating druids to near complete secrecy about the war, and while Caspis burned with rage about the cover-up, he obeyed, as Fandral's influence had grown to the point that directly standing against him was perilous for any druid.
First Marriage (-30)
While Caspis had taken many lovers over the millennia, a particular Sentinel with a strong resemblance to his long faded memory of Anareline Evensong began to earn his particular devotion over the years. He never told her the reason for his profound attraction to her; the communication in their relationship was somewhat one-sided. This did not bother Amadora, who found Caspis's mysterious nature a large part of his allure, along with his unfettered expressions of affection. His tendency to disappear into the Emerald Dream for many years at a time was also likely a plus for the independent Sentinel.
Eventually, about thirty years before the Dark Portal, Caspis and Amadora performed a bonding ceremony, and began to dream of starting a family together.
Third War (20)
Caspis was awakened prematurely from a "shift" in the Emerald Dream when the Burning Legion invaded Azeroth for the second time. He woke to a surprise: his wife Amadora had given birth to a daughter, Tirenda, not long after he had entered the Dream. The child, a complete stranger to him, was now twelve years old..
Amadora asked Caspis to retreat from Hyjal at the last moment, before the climactic battle, and go to Ashenvale to stay with Tirenda. Amadora was then lost in the fighting on Hyjal, and Caspis was forced to quickly bond with his headstrong daughter. While at first the relationship was fraught and difficult, within a few years they became very close.
Amadora's sister Auralind was blinded in the fighting, and as she recovered, she and her daughter Nilunelle became close to Caspis and Tirenda as the entire extended family grieved together and adjusted to a strange new world in which the elves could no longer avoid the inevitability of death.
Epic Reunions (25)
Not long after becoming associated with Cobalt Company, Caspis began traveling with Celaven Evensong, a young priest. In time Celaven's mother began a casual correspondence with Caspis that led him to believe that might be the soldier whose memory had haunted him his entire life.
When they met in person for the first time, the connection was immediate and intense; it seemed confirmed that the two were shalan - two halves of the same soul, reunited at long last. Their connection, as such things often do for kaldorei, led to profound changes in both of their lives that occurred with dizzying quickness for kaldorei - which is to say, less than a decade.
Around this time, Caspis was also reunited with his long-lost shan'do, now calling herself Imrolane Palemoon. Feral and nearly nonverbal, she was at the very least willing to reengage with the world again, and Caspis happily accepted her as she was, his love for his mother figure/friend having never faded.
Cobalt Company Years (27+)
During the War Against the Lich King, Caspis joined Cobalt Company to assist in the fight, but after several months serving sequentially as a healer on both of their forward squads, he withdrew to the Plaguelands with Anareline to help the Cenarion Circle with their research.
Not long after the Lich King conflict, the corruption Staghelm had seeded in the Emerald Dream came to a head, resulting in much of Azeroth falling into nightmare and a group assembled by the newly-returned Malfurion Stormrage having to journey to the Emerald Dream and take out the evil at the heart of it all. The trail of blame led to Fandral Staghelm, who was revealed at long last to have been responsible for Malfurion Stormrage's disappearance in the Dream, the current Nightmare conflict, and other atrocities. Fandral and many of his associates were imprisoned (including the father of Anareline's children, Cerelar Dawnshadow).
Caspis returned to active duty for Cobalt after the Cataclysm in year 28, helping rehabilitate Mt. Hyjal under the command of Dane Atley, who had become a dear friend and respected commander during their time together in Northrend. His squad helped awaken Aviana, Caspis's goddess, the mother of all flying beasts. Unfortunately, Caspis's squad was also involved in the transfer of Fandral Staghelm to a different prison, which was ultimately a ruse to free him.
Fandral then led the Druids of the Flame in service of Ragnaros, and created an entirely new warfront. Caspis joined Anareline in fighting back, and eventually Fandral was destroyed once and for all, leaving Caspis free to live a life free of rage, resentment, and self-doubt.
Relationships
|
|
Anareline Silvershade
Soulmates, a.k.a. shalan. Anareline saved his life ten thousand years ago, and he discovered five years after the Third War that she had been alive all that time… now they are married and frequently work together to help Azeroth. |
|
|
Imrolane Palemoon
As an adolescent, Caspis was her thero'shan, a feral young boy she guided into productive adulthood as a druid. Now their roles are almost reversed, with Caspis calming his "teacher gone wild" and guiding her toward reintegration with society. |
|
|
Celaven Evensong
Anareline's son, who has known Caspis slightly longer than she has. Even before Celaven's birth father betrayed the Cenarion Circle and was killed, Caspis had given this beloved young priest permission to refer to him as Father. |
|
|
Velrin Silverbloom
Celaven's skilled and sensitive mate, who frequently accompanies Caspis on some of his most high profile and dangerous missions. She also often invites Caspis over for tea, making their relationship one of mutual comfort despite their violent work lives. |
|
|
Auralind Mistwalker
Sister to his late wife Amadora, Auralind was invaluable in helping Caspis bond with his daughter, and now she often accompanies him on high profile missions for the dragonflights and/or Cobalt Company. |
|
|
Sir Dane Atley the Red
Caspis's first commander as a newly-minted squad member for Cobalt Company. He strove to impress this ferocious and well-respected young human and since then their bond has proven both volatile and enduring. |
|
|
Mordecai Aspenwood
Caspis feels very protective toward this young priest, who has helped Caspis with his inner struggles even while courageously enduring his own. Caspis also taught him how to ride a hippogryph. |
|
|
Florande Wildbloom
Caspis taught this half-sister of Celaven's about druidic history and meditation, and considers her nearly family since she turned away from her birth father, the treacherous Cerelar Dawnshadow. |
|
|
Ace
Though they had crossed paths before, Ace made her first lasting impression on Caspis on her first day at the Molten Front. Caspis finds her insightful, resilient, wise, generous of spirit, and confident without arrogance. |
|
|
Merelda Veyne
A worgen whose druidic talents are closely aligned with his. He has taken her on as a student, teaching her the ways of healing and Balance. She is is first ongoing non-kaldorei pupil. |
|
|
Cressidha Aspenwood
While Caspis is generally wary of mages, Cress's level-headed and calm approach quickly earned his trust, and her kindness toward him soon kindled a deep affection. |
|
|
Colson Aspenwood
Long before joining Cobalt Company's blue squad, these two had a memorable conversation about culture that helped shape Caspis's view of the changing world. He is pleased that Elune's path led them to fight side by side in Northrend. |
|
|
Azizia
Caspis has a carefully balanced combination of irritation at Azizia's narcissistic tendencies and deep respect for her connection to nature. He believes that she is beloved of Aviana, and so has decided to treat her with respect. |
|
|
Velrin's Shalan
Sometimes present when Caspis visits Velrin. She is heavily scarred, both physically and emotionally, it would seem. As with most wary animals, Caspis is careful around her. |
|
|
Nilunelle Mistwalker
Caspis's niece is a bright young woman, both in spirit and intelligence, and he has great respect for her growing abilities as a druid. |
