History
Liberty Bryling Baird was born in Hillsbrad in the year 5 ADP, to a pair of Stormwind natives forced to flee north when their homeland fell to the orcs. Her mother dubbed her "Liberty" in an excess of patriotic fervor, but at least it wasn't "Reckoning." (That's her older brother.)
Tragically, her mother didn't live to see the liberation of Stormwind; she died only a few days after little Liberty's birth. When the Alliance at last freed the south, Bryson Baird brought his two children home by himself.
Liberty was too small to have many memories of her subsequent childhood years in Stormwind City itself; most of her memories reside in Fallon Harbor, where her father eventually moved his little family and remarried. She spent a great deal of time tagging along at brother Reckoning's heels, climbing in and out of trouble at the Fallon Harbor docks and shipyards and proving that whatever he could do, she could do too. Just smaller. And sometimes louder. When he began to go by his middle name (Bryn), she did the same. (Her own middle name. Not his.)
When Bryn joined the navy at age 16, Bryling immediately announced her intention to do the same. As she was still only 13 at the time, her father and stepmother gently dissuaded her — temporarily, they assured her — with the suggestion that she might want to learn to fight, first. Although Bryling was pretty sure she could already fight — several of the village boys could attest she had a startling right hook — she was enchanted by the prospect of fighting better than Bryn. Fighting the best, maybe.
Bryling took to swordwork like a really aggressive duck to water, and by the time she was herself 16, she had concluded that rather than trail along in her brother's shadow, she was going to find her own patriotic service to Stormwind and join the Stormwind Guard.
Which she did.
These days you're more likely to find her in the city, wearing a sword and the confident colors of the Guard, than scrambling over docks or rocks at the beach and shouting for the big boys to wait up.
She still has a mean (and startling) right hook, though.
