RP Hooks

  • Explorers League: Anyone who deals with the Explorers' League might know of Bran; he's one of the few Prospectors who is a priest/healer, and stands out for that reason. He is known to be a bit of a dissenting voice, especially when the League gets reckless with life and limb in the pursuit of knowledge.
  • Stillwall Brewery: Bran's family doesn't come close to the Barleybrews or the Thunderbrews, with sales of their various offerings limited mostly to Ironforge. Stillwall Barleywine, though, is a bit of a breakout hit - several taverns who pride themselves on unusual "best kept secret" offerings serve it with pride.

Appearance

Bran's wild red hair and beard frames a boyish, pensive face just starting to show the first lines of age. His eyes are as warm and tranquil as tropical shallows, and approximately the same color. He's bit on the slight side for a dwarf, but still stocky and solid to a human's eyes.

His fingers are often ink-stained, as are, occasionally, his face and/or hair. His robes are almost always smudged with something or other. His face is usually beaming with serene good cheer. He's about a century and a half old, which for a human would translate somewhere in the late twenties/early thirties range.

Personality

Inquisitive • Big-Picture • Restless • Fun-Loving

Bran is an enthusiastic scholar of life's greatest mysteries, which made him a natural fit for the Explorers' League and their obsession with the world-shaping Titans. His interests are not so narrow as to be limited to his own ancestry, however; he can expound at great length on dragons, gods, loa, and the various major eras of multiple species' history. The one commonality in all his interests is that they are macro-scaled in the extreme.

He is not well suited, however, for the traditional academic life, as he's not one for sitting at a desk. He has mastered the art of reading while walking or riding, and he has an entire system for carrying everything he needs to eat, sleep, shelter, and study in two saddlebags. He also has the uncanny ability to create a party out of very few supplies on very short notice.

What most people remember about Bran, however, is his upbeat demeanor. Although he can at times offend others due to sheer obliviousness to important personal details or inability to "read the room," he's not uncaring, nor is he oblivious to sorrow and injustice. Nothing gets him down for long, however, and he has a tendency to try to turn gloominess or boredom on its ear at the slightest opportunity. Laughter, adventure, and new discoveries are what keep his engine running.

In other people, Bran is drawn to intelligence and enthusiasm above all. He loves to be surprised, challenged and entertained. But he is somewhat perversely appreciative of people who drag him down to earth and force him to pay attention to mundane boring details he's constitutionally incapable of attending to in a vacuum. There is literally no way one could drive him away by nagging.

In a Nutshell

Quirks:

  • Often greets people with "Lo there!"
  • Tends to call people by titles or nicknames rather than their given names, because it's easier for him to remember and nicknames are fun.
  • If a person's reaction to him doing a thing decreases the ambient fun level, he usually remembers not to do it around that person in future.
  • Often says "Dinna fash yerself" or just "Dinna fash," which means "Don't trouble yourself/don't worry."
  • Has a particular fondness for caraway burnwine.
  • Sketches things often and quickly. Remarkably accurate in outline and mood, lacking detail.

History

Born to a family of brewers (the surname comes from the family hair color resembling the copper lining of their favorite still), Brannagen was voraciously curious both academically and socially from a very early age. This opened him up to a great deal of (mostly good-natured) bullying from his peers, including his older brother Magnamor and older sister Muradel (if you think you're detecting a pattern in these names, you're not wrong).

Youing Bran responded to the bullying mostly via avoidance, and as soon as he was able, he wandered away from his family and Ironforge in general to surround himself with things he enjoyed. He spent quite a bit of time in Lordaeron during the era in which Arthas was growing up, traveling with a company of drake hunters and making a few coppers writing travel guides.

He was converted to worship of the Holy Light during the Third War when he saw its power in action, and ever since he discovered how to channel it, he's been exploring the world(s) even more widely and wielding his new holy powers with pragmatic glee.

Upon joining the Explorers' League, his academic curiosity, almost uncanny pattern recognition, and natural wanderlust caused him to advance quickly in the organization, despite being one of the few priests among their ranks. Over time though, the leaders of the League began to butt heads with him more and more often over disagreements on safety procedures. After a particularly heated meeting, Bran was on a sort of probationary leave that caused him to join a Cobalt squad to adventure in different company. Then his squad got wrapped up in the rediscovery of Brann Bronzebeard and the secrets of Ulduar, which ironically has likely cemented his place in the League for all time.

After he helped defeat the Lich King, he returned home for a time to help his family through the death of his mother and the turmoil around the return of Moira Thaurissan.

In Year 29 he joined back up with Cobalt Company's Blue Squad to assist in reaching out to the Wildhammer clan families in the Twilight Highlands and push back against the Twilight Hammer's plans in the area.

Relationships

Red Knight
Leader o' Blue Squad! Real commandin' type, serious as a heart attack, but a surprisingly good drinkin' buddy. Hates orcs, loves fightin', values his family. Always at the center o' big events.
Boomer
Old friend an' sometime beard-groomer. Hell of a sniper, bit of a worrywart. Always travels with a fine snow leopard; I was there the day they met! Pays attention to the Wee Thengs but good to talk to about the Big Thengs.
Shine
A quiet one but fun ta talk to if ye get him on his own. Got his eye put out by an orc an' apparently intends to keep killin' em till one of 'em gives it back. Good with knives, seems to be part o' Legion Lass's clan in some manner
Blossom
Used ta heal the other squad. Drew her name fer the Cobalt Company Greatfather Winter theng Year 27 and told her the Greatfather's TRUE SECRET NAME. Now she's on my squad, hurtin' rather than healin'. Wonder what happened there.

Ace

Ace
Sometime adventurin' companion. Comes from a real intense family but knows how ta have a good time. Tough as nails, too. Best possible person ta be diggin' up Titan relics with! Also lately a good source fer insight into the Elements.
Mistwalker
Squadmate! Yer classic Night Elf Sentinel, real serious most o' the time, but has a sense o' humor if ye know where ta look. Speakin' o' lookin', she needs a bit o' help wi' that but gets by well enough with her ears an' her ghost cat friend.
Sparks
Smart as a whep, if ye know how ta untangle her words. Could talk ta her for hours.
Breezy
We've got a theng goin' off an' on. Good partner for adventures an' 'fun, so long as yer not lookin fer deep conversation.
Twin Lass Who Wishes To Be Called Cressidha
Met her on a trip t'Zul'Aman, I thenk. Ended up healin' her on Blue Squad my first time out wi' them. Real competent mage. Real particular about bein' called by her proper name. Softer hearted than it seems on a first meetin'.
Twin Lad
Squadmate! The other twin. Married to Shy Guy. Hard to get a real sense o' who he is, as he always seems to come in a pair o' some kind.
Ms. Hazan's Boy
Leader o' White Squad! No one finer to lead yer expedition or toss back a few pints with ye. Still a bit confused on how Ms. Hazan's both his aunt an' his ma', but I did hear things are a bit strange in Westfall sometimes.
Legion Lass
The strongest, bravest damn creature I ever met. Fought 'er way out of tha' battlefield a' Mordre'Thar alone, carryin' a dyin' man with 'er. Forged of dwarven steel, that one.
The Kid
Got the Explorers' League spirit, tha' one. Friend of Hazan's Boy. I thenk he was in the circus or somethin? Got me a fine new set o' excavation tools fer Winter Veil.
Ms. Hazan
Helps run the Cobalt Clinic in Ironforge. Agreed tae apprentice me in alchemy. …Goodness it's been a minute, I should prob'ly check in fer a lesson.
Bear Cub
I've partnered up with her a time or three. Sweet as pumpkin pie. Damned if I can remember what the elf version looks like though.
Candyfloss
Hehehehe, that lass teaches the master class in havin' a good time.
Firefly
She was just the cutest little happy theng, built golems an' such, an' apparently fought in some goblin-run arena in the sewers! Died fightin' the Lich Keng.
Nightvine
A Sentinel I met just before my first foray with Blue Squad. Seems fun an' curious, less set in her ways than many kaldorei.
Silverbloom
Another Sentinel I met on my first Blue Squad day; she was gonna be on White Squad. Affectionate sort, seems a bit young.
Shy Guy
Met on my first day with Blue Squad. Silverbloom hugged him near t'death. Married t'Twin Lad.
Argent Lad
Gave Blue Squad our first assignment. Fought like a bleedin' demon in Naxxramas. But holier.
Fey Lass
Found her in Cobalt HQ not long after I joined Blue Squad. Full o' questions. Quite a strange lass, possibly an Old God cultist. Will keep an eye on 'er.
