Argus: Baalun had already made a life for himself on Argus well before the Legion's arrival there. Anyone from Argus might remember him as monk who trained younger Eredar physically as well as teaching philosophy.

Vindicator: Baalun was an implacable warrior aboard the Genedar and was always the first to rush to his people's defense when the Legion came. His request to not join the Army of the Light came as something of a surprise. Other vindicators would likely at least know of him.

Teacher: While he wasn't fighting, Baalun continued to teach and he helped train many young vindicators and anchorites.

Appearance

A very tall, muscular, and very old draenei man. His blue skin is weathered with countless scars and wrinkles as well as one particular injury that has left his right eye a blind cloudy white. His once rich blue hair has since faded to a bright white which he wears in a high topknot. He carries himself proudly and always wears a stern expression on his face.

Personality

Relentless ⬥ Philosophical ⬥ Charitable ⬥ Stringent

Baalun has a quite serious and severe personality. He doesn’t have much in the way of a sense of humor and has little interest in things he considers frivolous. Baalun prefers to spend his spare time either training, resting, or meditating to remain prepared for whatever his next task might be.

At first glance one might assume that Baalun is a rather cold and distant person, but this is actually not true. Baalun is a quite compassionate and selfless person. He will never turn away from someone who asks him for help, and will place himself in harm’s way at a moment’s notice if it means saving even one innocent soul. He also has never forgotten his role as a mentor and teacher. Baalun keeps a close eye on those around him and will never hesitate to offer words of guidance to those he feels might need them.

He is also not just a simple warrior. While it is true that as a vindicator his primary duty is to fight to protect his people and combat the Burning Legion, he is still a follower of the Light. He has never forgotten his roots as an ascetic and teacher on Argus and is more than happy to engage in scholarly discussion with anyone who is interested. He believes that training the mind and body are equally important to be fulfilled.

History

Baalun was born on Argus before the invasion of the Burning Legion. As a young man he devoted himself to the study of the Holy Light under the teachings of the Naaru and the Prophet Velen. He believed that striving to uphold the virtues of the Light was the key to the continued peace and prosperity of the Eredar. He spent his days training both his body and mind, believing that holding oneself to the highest standard both mentally and physically was the highest purpose in life, for only one of sound mind and sound body would be capable of bettering society for all.

As he grew older and more experienced, he took other younger students under his wing and offered them guidance. His tutelage was hard, but he always took care to foster growth. He was a strict mentor, but a gentle one. Baalun’s ideals gave him a somewhat complicated view of Archimonde as he admired his drive and insistence on excellence, but also found him to be overly harsh in his teachings. Baalun believed that all people, great or small, had the capacity for greatness, and that it was the duty of the strong to afford them the chance to find it for themselves.

Baalun’s uncertainty would soon prove to be well founded as the Legion came to Argus and promised the Eredar powers beyond imagination. While Archimonde and Kil’jaeden eagerly accepted their offer, Baalun followed Velen, also sensing that nothing good could come of these dark powers, and fled from Argus.

Drawing on his studies of the Light and his physical training, Baalun became one of the first vindicators aboard the Genedar. The millennia that followed would shape him into an unstoppable vessel of war. He always placed himself on the front lines of the bulwark against the Burning Legion and fought in innumerable conflicts against them as they chased the Draenei, as they now called themselves, across the stars. His prowess was so strong that he was even chosen to be one of the warriors to board the Xenedar to launch a counterattack against the Legion as a part of the Army of the Light, but he declined. He stated that he would rather remain closer to the people he had sworn to protect, because that was his true goal, defeating the Legion was only one part of that.

After arriving on Draenor, Baalun continued his role as a vindicator, protecting his people. For a time it seemed like he would have a moment to rest. However, before he knew it, the Legion began influencing the orcs, one of the native races of their new home, and war broke out once again. Baalun continued to fight, now against the orcs and later the Blood Elves as well until he eventually made his way onto the Exodar while guiding as many of his people to safety as he could.

Now living on Azeroth, Baalun continued to fight in the many conflicts that embroiled his people and their new allies. However, after the conclusion of the Scourge War and the onset of the Cataclysm, Baalun started to feel a bit too caught up in the din of battle. For this reason he resigned his commission from the Hand of Argus, at least for now, to try and reconnect with his roots of supporting and defending ordinary people.
