RP Hooks

  • Worgen Politics: Avrenne has been taking an active role in establishing the rights of worgens within the Alliance, and those looking for protection or clout to achieve worgen goals will find her a useful ally.
  • Matchmaker: Avrenne has a reputation for forming connections between potential marriageable partnerships, and can often bridge large social, political, or physical gaps between two characters that should meet, but need a reason.
  • Lordaeron Nobility: Avrenne and her family were well known, well placed, and extensive. Chances are you knew of them, if not any of them personally. Those of Lordaeron nobility or frequently visiting nobility have likely some tie to them, in one way or another. Avrenne as the third of her House was a dangling marriage option for much of her youth. Nobles of Lordaeron may have briefly courted her (to be rejected by her House).
  • Political Reputation: Avrenne has a reputation of being cold, logical, sensible, and intelligent. Men and women both would be aware that she does not flirt. She is known unlikely to be moved by sentiment or feeling. She often appears to have no agenda of her own, offering up objective-seeming assessments rather than strong passions or controversial opinions. She has a wide web of connections, and powerful friendships. Someone looking to achieve political aims would want her as an ally.
  • Stormwind House of Nobles: Married to a House member, Avrenne also has several significant relationships to various House members. She presents herself as a neutral politician, who will listen to well-reasoned arguments from all sides of issues. Those looking to try to pass legislation or affect political change may want her political pull and influence.
  • The Flower Language: Avrenne is well versed in the old fad of a language of flowers (well enough to, by memory, write an entire Floriography). Those who know it, or who have an affinity for codes, will find a willing conversation partner and enthusiast.

Appearance

Avrenne was once described by a former suitor as a "series of rectangles." Her face is an elongated rectangle, her mouth is a small rectangle, her eyes are slanted rectangles, her bust line is…well. You get the idea.

At 5'1", she is petite, but her air of projection makes her often seem much taller…until you stand next to her. She has very dark brown eyes, and on rare occasions, sometimes they seem to almost have warm lights in them, or maybe that was just your imagination of a torch light reflection.

Her golden blonde hair reaches her midback but is usually caught up in a professional sleek chignon. Only those who are considered close enough to be family (or the family's servants) have seen her with her hair down.

She is known for her expensive, well-made dresses that are clearly one of kind creations meant for her, many of which are statements or metaphors, and all of which project a certain air about this logical, professional business woman and diplomatic politician. They always have long sleeves and are always at least to her ankles.

Her mannerisms are controlled, and as composed as a picture, and she is widely regarded as cold and frigid. Her poise is a thing of legend, and few have ever seen her shaken from it.

Her voice is a very cultured noble Lordaeron accent (Headcanon: British RP accent), and neither high or low pitched for a woman, just something in between.

She can sing in an operatic way, but this is not well known. When she sings, she is a dark soprano, something that seems caught between high and low notes at the same time, and often described as a more matronly tone. Singing Voice Claim: Greta Bradman.

[Not widely known or visible: Avrenne has substantial scarring on her forearms from burns suffered during the Fall of Lordaeron. She always keeps her arms covered in public, even during the summer, and while some might wonder at it, her manner suggests that she is just really that buttoned up enough to not show much in public. Only a handful of people have seen the scars.]

Personality

Resolute • Resilient • Self-Contained • Sentimental

ALIGNMENT: NEUTRAL GOOD

Correct Formal Titles: Your Grace, Duchess Esprit, Lady Fallon

"Her Grace is a brilliant woman. Ye've never known a finer negotiator or diplomat, a lady with such a mathematical mind, a lady who's raised such a reputation for herself and guards it so well. Her Grace will cut a bargain so fine it would shame a goblin, and she'll write a plate-clad contract to seal it. Armies march on the supplies she arranges them, and she takes tea wi' the King." - Siamus Fallon

Avrenne is a woman with the weight of her responsibilities pressing down hard enough on her that it might explain why she's so short. A woman of sentiment deep inside, Avrenne presents a face that she believes will make people take her seriously as a Power: cold, composed, and impervious. Those who spend more time with her often see peeks at the witty, warm, and vivacious woman under the mask, but those sparks are rare.

She usually behaves as though she expects that no one will help her, and she must do everything herself. She has very few friends, at least those that one might consider Actual Friendships, but she maintains an extremely wide web of cordial relationships with all manner of the nobility.

Avrenne seeks both the path of least resistance and shortest distance to a goal, and tends to continue forward on a track once she is on it, even in the face of obvious reasons to reconsider. When these trains do sometimes derail or explode, however, Avrenne recovers and rises back up, every time. She is not afraid of setbacks, but she is terrified of real inescapable failure, and will not allow herself to truly hit that mark. She will lose many battles, but damn it, she's winning The War.

Avrenne's technique for power relies on forming connections and knowledge of others — she's not much of a gossip, and often avoids scandals by simply being as untouchable as possible. She is not a warm person in public, but she is incredibly reliable. Her word is her bond, and she does not break a promise given, sometimes to the point of great personal sacrifice.

Her knowledge of which mines produce what ore, who has a space large enough for a factory, who has the expertise for building such-and-such, is what fuels her ability to power her offerings to the Crown; she has an almost encyclopedic knowledge of every aspect of manufacturing in Azeroth and Outland. You might suspect she doesn't have a lot of, uh, other hobbies. The hobbies she does have are odd, and you have to be pretty generous on the definition for some to count.

She is known to be cautious, but unrelenting in her endeavors. She plays a long game, and her political hand is often subtle and powerful.

A few souls know her also to be motherly, both in the stern headmistress scolding way, as well as the come here, child, get your hug and hair pets way. Those who skip their meals get the scolding. Those who cry get the hug and hair pets. It's her only move.

AvrenneSmile
A portrait Siamus has of Avrenne.

Since her life was uprooted for Stormwind, she has pledged her allegiance in full, and in obvious ways, to the Alliance itself. How much she truly seems loyal to the king of Stormwind is less clear, although her adamant support of the war against the Lich King made it clear that she did not consider what remained of Arthas Menethil to be her prince.

History

Birthday March 3rd, Year -03

Born the second daughter and third child of a long, richly historied noble Lordaeron house, Avrenne had little to occupy her as a young child beyond the benefits of her station. Raised to think herself an equal to men, she met with shocking sexism in her teens as she bloomed into young adulthood.

The fire magic that came, untrained and unexpected — after one particular heated argument with a man who wanted to be a suitor and was told 'no, thank you' in various ways until setting his cravat on fire convinced him of the seriousness of the refusal — was subsequently trained; they soon discovered, however, that she had little to no real talent in it, and was, at best, limited to parlor magic. She experiences magical blowback from all of her magic, small to big, and does not use it often, particularly not in a combat form. She has cast to the point of an extreme only once, during the Fall of Lordaeron.

The Esprits were known as a military nobility, led by Duke Esprit who had an iron, implacable fist ready to throw down to war at any time. They had several of the lands on the borders, and if you go back far enough, part of House Menethil's branches. They made their money in investments into the army, and were staunch, unwavering supporters of the crown. Second Sons were committed to the army without a single exception in an unbroken line for seven generations. They had wealth, they had class, they had the ear of the king.

Until year 20 and the changes the prince brought.

With the Fall of Lordaeron, Avrenne was one of many who lost nearly everything in it. Her family's ancestral manor, their lands, their tenants, and most of the family line itself. Avrenne was left, at age 23, the sole heir to the House of Esprit, with an odd collection of the House's faithful servants from various offshoots of the family. Unlike some who sought shelter in Stormwind, she retained the power of her name even without the lands and wealth behind them by sheer force of personality and powerful connections made early on.

She has faithfully represented her House at every turn, meddling in politics and arrangements with a surprising skill for her age. Her tactics rely on connections, both old and new, some of which she orchestrates where the young woman has been known to secure engagements between Houses that owe their union to her interference meddling gracious assistance.

In year 25, she became very publicly engaged to a young man who had long been known to be a favored suitor of hers, Joran Green, an extraordinarily wealthy, much younger man. After the engagement, Avrenne used the promise of that wealth to fund the military campaign of her House, with contracts and strategic investments, for Northrend.

Siarenne
Avrenne, a 5'1" woman who married a 6'1" man. That was a decision.

Unfortunately, everything changed with the MacBrides attacked — that is, when Brigitte MacBride married Joran Green in a whirlwind romance. Left without any money to back her loans, Avrenne was left holding the bag of responsibility, and the need to make a very, very wealthy match very, very soon.

She traveled to Northrend to get back her paperwork from the blackguard, and encountered a man from her past — Captain Zath Tyrrell. She decided on him for marriage, and an opening bargaining for negotiations led her to an agreement at the Thenedain Remembrance Ball to consider all her options, and she met (then) Commodore Siamus Fallon. The encounter turned out to be instrumental in the eventual engagement of Siamus and Avrenne, as the two were clearly well suited for the other — each looking for the exact marriage the other offered.

Avrenne and Zath formed their own bond as well, as did Zath and Siamus, and for a time they were lovers all. When Zath had to choose between selflessly saving a young woman, or maintain his lovers, Avrenne encouraged him to be the hero. Their breakup was amicable, and since then their friendship has grown. They might not be in bed literally, but they are still in bed politically, and Avrenne's support for the orphanage at Drakewatch and WEB remains steadfast.

On June 27th, Year 27, Avrenne and Siamus were publicly married in a Society Wedding officiated by a priest of the Light, Casker John. And then later privately more actually married in a Kul Tiran ceremony by the tidesage Brother Eli. She is now a Duchess of Lordaeron and a Baroness of Stormwind.

On March 31st, Year 28, Siamus and Avrenne's first daughter was born: Ery Blanche Arielle Parrish Esprit Fallon. (A normal number of names.)

On December 21st, Year 28, the Fallons welcomed twin sons, Elliot Simon Marius Parrish Esprit Fallon, and Eamon Shine Markell Parrish Esprit Fallon.

Relationships

Admiral Siamus Fallon
Avrenne's husband. They negotiated an ironclad contract for an unsentimental engagement of a business arrangement between a duchess of connections, sound mind, and calculus to a Kul Tiran (then) Commodore (now Admiral) with a large fortune in want of a very specific wife. They flirt in math together. She keeps track of where his teacups end up, and manages his political waters. He provides a passion for her to follow, and his ledgers give her butterflies. She loves him.
Lady Sintha Fallon
Avrenne and her had a long history of a polite social relationship, until it became clear that Avrenne just might be the marriage that Siamus had been looking for, and the woman that Sintha was looking for her brother to have. Her sister-in-law now, Avrenne is surpassingly fond of the other woman, not the least out of appreciation for a game well played. She is enormously proud of Sintha joining the 7th Legion and the Alliance military.
Finley Boutille
Formerly Avrenne's butler, Finley is the son of the family who were butlers for House Esprit for generations. After the Fall of Lordaeron, he became her ward, legally, as he was underage at the time. Even after he came of age, he renewed the wardship until age 25, to be under her legal, medical, and financial care. He ultimately renewed it, and is her ward in perpetuity. He has begun to cultivate his skills with speaking to people into a form of power for House Esprit Fallon, and Avrenne supports his passion for art. Their relationship is not clearly cut, something not quite a younger brother or nephew, not quite a servant and the lady of the house, not quite a friend or a peer. She loves him, clearly, but in neither direction is it romantic.
Isla Lenaire
Avrenne's youngest ward, Isla was the daughter of the chef for House Esprit before the Fall. Avrenne rescued the young girl, only 8 at the time, along with the gardener's son Otto (10). Isla has been Avrenne's 'lady's maid,' in large part to provide Isla with some level of potential marketable skill while she grows up, although Avrenne clearly depends mostly on herself rather than the teenager. Since becoming part of House Fallon, Avrenne has encouraged Isla to follow other possible career paths that are now open to her with the full support of Avrenne's newfound wealth from her marriage to Siamus.
Otto Renner
Avrenne’s middle ward, Otto was the son of the Esprit gardener, and a third generation staff of the noble house. Now, he is given the freedom to choose what he would like to be and do, and at the moment that seems to be following in the path of a gardener himself.
Costentyn Shine
Formerly the first footman and butler of House Fallon, Shine is one of Siamus' closest friends, and his former lieutenant. Avrenne is fond of the man, and finds his company both stimulating and settling at once. The one-eyed marine has been part of the comfort of the House in Siamus' absence, teaching the Lady Fallon how to play carom billiards and giving her the stories of his and Siamus' youth. They play twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays in the wee hours of the night.
Brother Eli Brisbane
Siamus' cousin and spiritual advisor as a tidesage. Avrenne holds a deep respect for the older man, particularly since his advice has so far generally aligned with her own. He officiated their real wedding in the eyes of the Tidemother.
Ralaea Westwind
Avrenne and Siamus’ most recently added ward, Avrenne views the young woman as a mother would a daughter, seeing in her both Lordaeron and Kul Tiras descent as a reflection of House Fallon. She may often have to use her “word magic” on Ralaea to contain the chaos, but she is proud of the impulses that often guide Ralaea in principle.
Brendol Westwind
Ralaea's younger brother, a much softer spoken and hearted young man. He likes horses and not having to remember exactly which titles do and don't apply to Siamus. Avrenne finds him adorable, and has tucked him right into her wardship circle, paperwork pending. He lived at Fallon House for a time.
Brother Casker John
The priest of the Light who married Avrenne and Siamus officially in front of the eyes of society. He seemed a pleasant enough fellow. Avrenne holds the priests of the Light in general respect, even if she has no particular interest or feeling about the religion of the Light itself. When Avrenne burned herself in a self-made fire due to an unnaturally vivid nightmare caused by the corruption of the Emerald Dream, it was Brother Casker she sought out as the closest healer.
Miss Annai Curran
Siamus' secretary, clerk, and notary, and something called a Thornspeaker, a Kul Tiran druid of some sort. Avrenne respects her cultivated business self and her attention to detail.
Miss Tabiana Lynds
Formerly Harvey’s retainer, the Lordaeron woman of a long, historied House of retainers of the Morningdews has signed a contract to attach herself in that capacity to House Fallon and rebuild her House once more. She is pregnant with her first child by way of a Kul Tiran man, a parallel Avrenne views as significant. She resides in the Blue Suite in Fallon House.
