- Sentinel: Auralind is a Sentinel of moderate renown. She is a scout with the Moonhunters faction, where she achieved the rank of Thaless (Lieutenant).
- Battle Veteran: Auralind has fought in several major battles. There is a certain camaraderie that forms easily among fellow veterans, especially those that served in the same conflicts.
- Mount Hyjal - Fought in the Third War. She nearly lost her life, and did lose her sight, at Mount Hyjal.
- The Black Temple - Present in the raid on the Black Temple to finally defeat the Betrayer, Illidan Stormrage.
- The Wrathgate - Nearly died at the hands of the Forsaken at the Wrathgate. Her beloved lion companion, Elu'shalla, was killed.
- Blind: Though she navigates the world with uncanny awareness, Auralind is completely blind. Her other senses were very sharp even before losing her sight, and are extraordinary now.
Appearance
Being naturally tall and lean, Auralind already has a natural athleticism and physicality, which she has worked hard forge into a strong body of corded muscle. Her pale azure skin's many scars speak to a life filled with dangers and a need to push herself to her limits. The most severe wound she carries is suggested in the burn scars around her eyes, which have a faded glow.
Personality
☾ Adamant ☾ Skeptical 〇 Maternal ☽ Primal ☽
A mother lioness, Auralind is fierce and protective of those she adopts into her pride. She shows her nurturing, maternal side with her "cubs", but will get stern if necessary for their own good.
Shrewd and observant, and never one to accept what she is told at face value. Inquisitive to a fault, she questions everything and is cautious in her decision-making. But once she has set her mind to something, Auralind is unrelenting in her determination.
Romance
History
Auralind first walked the earth of Azeroth over two millennia ago. Her mother, Anadril Stillbreeze, was a mighty and renowned Sentinel, and a hero of the War of the Ancients. Her father was a druid, but a man she barely knew. Anadril never took a mate for more than a year or so.
When she was born, Auralind was assigned a male gender and was known as Aeladon. She always had a tense relationship with her mother, who was a stern and demanding woman. Young Aeladon strived to live up to Anadril's expectations, but always seemed to fall short.
When her sister, Amadora, came along, it quickly became clear who the favorite would be. Amadora seemed to be everything Aeladon was not. In her youth, Aeladon allowed jealousy to fester in her and it caused a rift between the siblings that would not heal for many centuries.
Aeladon never quite felt right in her skin. Growing up in a culture with strictly divided gender roles, she chafed any time she was forced into a male duty or position, or denied one reserved for females. Though she dared not speak it aloud, she knew in her kalan she was a girl.
As a youth, Aeladon was generally unwelcome among the girls (as she was seen as a boy), and didn't enjoy the company of most other boys…with one exception. Anderas Mistwalker was about Auralind’s age, and used to pull her hair and tease her. After a few times, she bloodied his lip and then felt so awful about it that she pinned him down until she could clean him up and tend to him. After that they were inseparable.
Anderas was the only person Aeladon told about her real self. Somehow she just knew he would understand, and he did. Without a moment of hesitation he hugged her, then asked if she wanted to go skip stones on the lake…and that was that.
Aeladon was expected to follow in her father's footsteps (a decision made by Anadril), and even began training as a druid with the Cenarion Circle. Her mentor, Taralos, could sense that her heart wasn't in the path, and began to suss out why. In time, he confided something in Aeladon. Taralos told his pupil that he had been born female, but knew that he had the kalan of a man. Aeladon was stunned. She had never imagined there was someone else like her. Amid tears of joy, she told Taralos all about her feelings of dysphoria.
Taralos explained that nature is ever changing and its perfection is in its imperfection. Sometimes the unexpected happens; but druids are empowered to influence nature when those unexpected events are causing suffering. Taralos himself had undergone a process of changing his body to better match his soul, and offered to do the same for Aeladon. Of course, the youth eagerly agreed.
The process was slow, giving Aeladon's body time to adjust. Over the course of many years, through the use of advanced herbalism and druidic magic, her body was gradually transformed. During that time, Taralos took her before the Priestesses of the Moon to speak for her and see her acknowledged in the eyes of Elune for her true self, and to grant her a new name: Auralind. While Anadril was outraged, she could not speak against the priesthood.
Naturally, Auralind's druid training had to stop immediately. But it was still useful as she transitioned into Sentinel training. Between that and years growing up foraging and hunting game in Ashenvale Forest, she proved to be a skilled woodswoman. She took up the bow and became a scout for the Moonhunters.
As Auralind and Anderas matured, so too did their emotions. They came to better understand the unbreakable bond they shared: that elusive connection known to their people as shalan. They were soulmates. Although Auralind was generally attracted to women, Anderas was special. He was her one, and in time they chose to call one another mates, and Auralind adopted Anderas's surname, Mistwalker.
They wanted a family, and had to be a little creative about it, as Auralind could not carry a child. Anderas had a sister, Synadriel, who agreed to be a surrogate, and in time they were blessed with a daughter: Nilunelle.

Nilunelle and Auralind, by Athena
Auralind had to raise Nilunelle on her own for most of her life, as Anderas was now a druid and sleeping in the Emerald Dream. It could be difficult at times. Aura tried to raise Nilu to be strong like her, but her daughter seemed to be so meek and soft, which frequently caused friction between them. Aura feared she was becoming too much like her own mother.
Though Nilu had met her father when she was very young, her memories of him were hazy. She first met him properly only when the druids were awakened to fight in the Third War. So the meeting was brief and bittersweet.
The war took a heavy toll on Auralind. Her sister, Amadora, was killed at the Battle for Mount Hyjal; Auralind and Anderas nearly lost their lives as well. Both were gravely wounded, Aura far worse than her husband. It was only the heroism of a human knight, Sir Elohad Ference, that saved their lives that day and spared their daughter from becoming an orphan. However, though Auralind lived, her injuries were severe, her body broken. Most harrowing of all to her, though, was the loss of her sight. She was blind.
For three years, Auralind convalesced and trained to regain her strength. Her body healed, her wounds scarred over…but her vision never returned, the silver light in her eyes now faded to a pale glimmer. Her saving grace during this time was, to her own surprise, not her husband, but her daughter. Anderas was certainly a great help, but it was Nilunelle, who had been one of the first young kaldorei women to take up the mantle of druid, who tended to her mother day after day. When Anderas eventually felt to a mysterious illness a few years after the war, Nilunelle stepped up to handle the funerary arrangements when she had every right to fall apart. Though blind, Auralind began to see her daughter at last; she was not weak at all, but had as strong a heart as any night elf ever had. Her compassion was her strength, her gentle nature was her shield. With new understanding, Auralind and Nirunelle began to bridge the chasm between them and find a closeness they had never had before.
Bolstered by the encouragement of her daughter, driven by the need to protect and be her best, Auralind trained to overcome her infirmity. Her other senses sharpened and she learned how to rely on them to do what her eyes no longer could. Over the protests of some, Aura took up the bow once again to prove that the loss of her eyes would not hold her back from regaining her unerring aim.
It was a long road. Two-thousand years of training do not come back overnight. But few souls are as determined as Auralind Mistwalker. She has emerged again from the mists and shown the world that it is from the greatest adversity that legends are born.
Relationships
Nilunelle Mistwalker Elun'alare. My Moonpetal. I try so hard to guide you, and yet so often it is you astonishing me with your young wisdom. You are truly your father's daughter.
Anderas Mistwalker Kal anu’lathar…my beloved mate. My shalan. The only man I ever loved. He was my best friend since we were children. He stood by my side through every trial, pulled me out of my darkest depths, and filled my life with light and joy I had never known before. Even with his duties as a druid and the short time he got to spend with Nilunelle, he was an incredible father to her; they bonded almost instantly and he taught her so much. He was one of the loudest voices speaking out to admit women into the Cenarion Circle. The only person I have ever known with a heart as big as his is his own daughter. It was not just our family that suffered a devastating loss when he died…it was Azeroth.
Sir Elohad Ference Elohad saved my life and that of my mate at Mount Hyjal. If not for him, Nilunelle would be an orphan. It is a debt I can never repay, but my loyalty is his.
Sir Dane Atley Dane understands me…perhaps even better than Elohad in certain ways. My bond with Elohad is unbreakable, but we often have very different views; a contrast that has served us well. Dane, however, is like a human reflection of myself. We bonded almost instantly, without need for words to explain why. It was an unspoken understanding between veterans. We've never needed much in the way of talk between us; I do not expect we ever will.
Caspis Silvershade My rul'denore, my bond-brother, by my sister Amadora. He was always closer to Anderas than to me, at least before our mates died. After Amadora was killed at Hyjal, we grieved together, and again after Anderas passed. I appreciate his stoicism; with Caspis I never feel like I am being judged for some failure to be a sobbing wreck.
Anadril Stillbreeze Minn'do, my honored mother. Easily one of the most dedicated and accomplished Sentinels that ever served…a dedication she did not seem to show to her own family. I know she loved us, in her own way, but she was not easy to love. There are still so many things I wish I could say to her, and hear from her. But those words are forever silenced.
Amadora My sister was always the favored child. She was everything to our mother that I was not. Looking back, I undoubtedly allowed that to create resentment toward Amadora in me, which was never fair to her. We got closer as I matured, especially after joining the Sentinels. But who is to say how we might have bonded if not for our mother's way of building walls between us?
Tirenda My wonderful niece, daughter of Amadora and Caspis.
Synadriel Mistwalker My bond-sister by Anderas, and Nilunelle's surrogate mother. I am forever grateful to her for what she did for us.
Amythiel Mistwalker My cousin; daughter to my mother's brother. She is quite young, though; only a century older than Nilunelle. Like Nilu, she joined the Cenarion Circle when women were permitted, leaving the priesthood behind. Now she is serving the Circle in Outland with the Cenarion Expedition.
Animal Companions
|
Thaeru'kal Her name in Darnassian means "Follow Her to the Stars". |
Elu'shalla (Deceased) Elu'shalla was as loyal and fierce a companion as I could have asked for. He came to our family first as a cub, and we were reunited many years later. He fought by my side through countless battles. In the end, he was taken from me, and a part of my soul died with him. I will never forgive the Forsaken for that. His ferocity will live on in me forever…and they will forever feel it.
Shu'sael For such a large cat, Shu'sael is as stealthy as they come; maybe even more so than Elu'shalla. Often, even I do not know that she is nearby, but I have come to trust that she usually is. Always there…always watching.
Ethrys Somehow, Ethrys is even quieter than Elu'shalla when she moves…as silent as the mist her coat resembles. Obviously, her name was "Silence".
Talathar When the Cenarion Expedition honored me with a war hippogryph for my service, they presented me three marvelously trained beasts to choose from. I chose the defiant fourth one the trainer couldn't seem to get a harness on. I have never had much connection with tame animals. She and I became fast friends, and she soon permitted me to ride her. I call her Talathar; in Common it might poetically translate as "Skywild".
Fial'el Fial'el hatched immediately after we dispatched Prince Kael'thas (the second time). Thank Elune he never had the chance to corrupt this little creature. It's been challenging learning how to raise and care for an elemental. Fortunately, she behaves in many ways like one would expect of a bird.
