RP Hooks
- Cobalt Company: Arric is deeply loyal to Cobalt Company and determined to rise through the ranks, and so he is naturally aligned with anyone who belongs to or is interested in the mercenary group.
- Kul Tirans: Obviously anyone else who is stranded on the mainland cut off from Kul Tiras will find a wholehearted welcome from this fellow expatriate.
- Hunting: Do you enjoy a bit of sport? Tally-ho! Come ride with Arric through the forest in pursuit of challenging quarry!
- Nobles: While Arric will socialize with anyone, he has more in common with people raised with the same expectations and privileges he was raised with.
- A Person: Are you a person? Then Arric wants to talk to you! Tell him your story! Have a drink with him! Go for a ride! Arric is up for all manner of camaraderie!
Appearance
Arric is a decent looking man, if you don't mind gingers. Sometimes his pale blue eyes look a bit fishlike under stress, but he otherwise has refined and youthful features, mostly unfreckled. His cheekbones are splendid, his nose straight and fine. Without his short beard, he might look even younger for his age than he already does. The beard might also be hiding a slightly weak chin.
He dresses like a man who has tailors, and possibly servants to help dress him. His clothes are fine, subtly stylish, and flattering. He does not seem to be above getting mud on his boots, however, and anytime he is outdoors he is carrying at least one firearm.
Anyone who hates noble types will despise this man at first sight.
Personality
GREGARIOUS • DELICATE • COURAGEOUS • PATERNALISTIC
Arric's courage does not come from being tough or fearless - indeed, Arric is the sort of man who startles easily and collapses after battles. But he is a man who faces his fears from an unflinching belief in his duty to protect. If there is a slight tinge of condescension sometimes in the way he "protects" others, it is softened to an extent by a sincerely warm heart.
Arric is a chatty, social creature who is drawn to interactions with people of all strata and driven by a sincere desire for companionship. He is diplomatic and careful of others' feelings. He is generally well-liked, though often in a gently mocking way by rougher types. He takes this sort of teasing with a smile and a shrug; he has a strong belief in his place in the world that cannot be shaken by others' opinions of him.
Many are surprised, given his occasional seeming fragility, to find that he is by no means submissive. He is accustomed to responsibility, and considers most common folk to fall under that umbrella. His horses, dogs, falcons, etc. are not companions in the kaldorei sense, but creatures he has tamed and mastered. He cares deeply for their health and well-being, but not their opinions.
Near Voice Claim (Arric is not a professional singer), strong vibes
This character is romanceable.
Arric is a courtly noble romance.
While he has obligingly and lightheartedly fooled around with a lad or two in his time if they were persistent, he is mostly straight, and he would only consider a serious relationship with a woman who was looking to marry and have children. He does not "dally with" young ladies of any social class, because he has very old fashioned notions about Ladies.
He assumes he will eventually marry a Kul Tiran noblewoman of some variety, but if he felt passionately enough he could be convinced to marry a commoner or even a high elf. He would never consider expressing romantic feelings toward someone would be unable to be the mother of his children someday.
With the above in mind, pursuing a romance with him would not be difficult at all; he likes almost everyone, has no particular ambitions toward an amazing sex life, and is quite agreeable to suggestion. He might easily by path of least resistance end up in a marriage that is more of a warm friendship with occasional heir-making.
If he were ever to be stirred to True Love, it would be by someone who sees him as he wishes to see himself: strong, heroic, dashing, commanding, and very much a man… no matter what other men might say. For that woman, Arric would risk everything, including his whole heart, and he might find that there is some fire in him to match his hair after all.
Quirks
I don't have a very good memory, and also I won't be around forever. This is just a list of things to help me remember how to RP my guy properly, or to allow others to RP the guy if I'm no longer around.
- Says "Capital!" as a term of approval/excitement.
- Says "Good show" or "jolly good show" as praise.
- Is particularly fond of gnomes.
- Prefers firearms to other types of ranged weapons.
Examples
History
Arric was born February 29th in the year of the Dark Portal and grew up the second son of a Kul Tiran noble family in northern Tiragarde Sound, just at the border of Stormsong Valley. Not as influential as their neighbors the Norwingtons, the Falreveres were close friends (some might even say toadies) of that illustrious family and shared in their favorite pastimes of horsemanship and hunting. He has a twin sister, Arrish, and an older brother, Strand.
Arric often gently prodded his fellow nobles to take more interest in events going on outside Kul Tiras, and was invariably met with frowns and turned backs. When Kul Tiras refused to send any significant aid to the war against the Lich King, he became incensed. When all news from the mainland suddenly ceased to be available at all, this was the last straw.
As a second son he had the luxury of leaving home, and leave he did, seeking out his childhood friend Sintha Fallon to help him get situated on the mainland. He purchased an abandoned cottage with a small orchard and sheepfold in Elwynn Forest, and he's been working on refurbishing and staffing it.
Unfortunately, all trade and travel between the mainland and Kul Tiras was shut off shortly after he arrived, leaving him stranded with a property that was still not profitable and without a clear way to support himself beyond the dwindling funds he'd brought with him. Undaunted, Arric immediately began to seek out connections and ways to make a name and place for himself in his new home. He joined Cobalt Company and also began to study the in-demand craft of Gnomish engineering.
Currently working at Arric's cottage are an assortment of people who are largely difficult to hire elsewhere for various reasons:
- Mr. Lake, caretaker. He has a disorder that causes him to make odd loud noises and twitches periodically, but is mentally stable. He keeps the fences fixed and the weeds under control and such but has no idea how to take care of apple trees. He is of a long-fallen noble line and has his own small scrap of land left, but he needs work as his land does not produce enough to pay the taxes on it.
- Gerda, a slightly paranoid older woman who was a sniper in the first war and chiefly cooks and vigorously cleans rooms (but not clothes or bedding; she is deeply averse to laundry). She sleeps in a small room attached to the main house.
- Davey Ratliff, an amiable, well-read young commoner who looks after the sheep and also helps educate and entertain the children of the other workers when they're about. He is congenitally missing several fingers. He sleeps in an outbuilding. His mother works in one of Arric's favorite haberdasheries.
- Mrs. Beldum, a thirty-one-year-old woman with a nine-year-old son Conover. She helps care for the apple trees after being displaced from Siamus Fallon's Hillsbrad property. She shares an Old Town rental with Mrs. Chespin, and brings her son to work.
- Mrs. Chespin, a twenty-seven-year-old woman with a three-year-old daughter and an infant son. She brings her children to work and handles laundry, tailoring, and whatever other indoor tasks she has time for. Another Hillsbrad refugee.
