RP Hooks

  • Westfall Gal: Born and raised in Westfall and went to school in Moonbrook. Yes, she is from that Jansen Homestead, the one right there after the bridge crossing from Elwynn Forest.
  • Ex-Defias: Annibeth used to be a member of the Defias Brotherhood, where she was commonly known by the nickname "Boom-Boom". Shortly before VanCleef's demise she became disillusioned with them and left. Hey, we all make mistakes, right? Right?
  • Ms. Fix-it: Though not an inventor by any means, Anni is a skilled technician and can repair pretty much any machine she encounters, and she can follow a schematic to build most anything you like.
  • Kaboomies!: Anni loves anything that explodes! Dynamite, bombs, fireworks, guns…if it goes boom, it excites her.
  • Hard of Hearing: Years of working with the anvil and explosives has damaged Anni's hearing, and leaving her entirely deaf in her left ear, and hard of hearing in her right. This has caused more than a few misunderstandings, as people will sometimes think she is ignoring them or just not paying attention.

"I'm telling you, dynamite works. Anytime I had a problem and I threw dynamite…boom! Right away, I had a different problem."

Appearance

Annibeth is a young woman of average height, and a mostly average build save for her arms of steel. Her sun-tanned skin is contrasted by dirty blonde hair, artificially bleached from her natural brunette color. It's pulled back into an attempt at a ponytail that usually just ends up in a loose, wispy mess around her head.

Anni does not wear makeup or try to look "pretty". But her one feature she is very proud of is her eyes, which gleam a brilliant sky blue.

She favors simple worker's clothing under sturdy leathers. She's always got her handy toolbelt strapped to her waist, an assortment of wrenches, hammers, and other tools dangling from She is rarely seen without a pair of goggles either sitting atop her head or over her eyes.

Anni can be fidgety and excitable, full of energy and ready to go, go, go! There is always something that needs doing and she's ready to do it. She also frequently forgets about a little something called personal space.

Annibeth speaks in a notable accent that marks her as coming from the breadbasket of Stormwind: Westfall.

Personality

Passionate • Incautious • Direct • Needy

Annibeth is the kind of person that goes all-in on everything. She's passionate about what she believes in, but it can leave her with blind spots and make her incautious and sometimes impulsive. However, it also makes her a dedicated friend and ally. Some might say a little too dedicated. Anni craves friendship and approval. There is nothing more sad or terrifying than being alone.

One thing Anni can always be counted on for is her directness. She's not one for complex plans or beating around the bush. The simplest path is the sensible one, in her mind. Of course, she doesn't always consider all of the consequences of something as seemingly straightforward as blowing open a lock with seaforium rather than quietly picking it. The same goes for how Anni deals with people; she is usually bluntly honest and has a tendency to just blurt out whatever is on her mind.

Romance

History

Annibeth Jansen dismantled her first harvester golem when she was five years old. She repaired her first broken harvester when she was seven. Her parents were pretty sure she had a knack for mechanics. It wasn't that she was especially smart; machines just made sense to her. She would often say it was like they "talked" to her to tell her what was wrong and how to fix them. It wasn't long before other farmers in Westfall were asking to "borrow" little Anni to perform maintenance on their own harvesters.

School was a struggle for Annibeth. Book learning didn't come easily for her. But she made several friends at the Moonbrook schoolhouse that made it more pleasant for her. Still, she eagerly awaited the long walk home with her brother, Dagrick, so she could get back to tinkering with the machines on the Jansen homestead.

She and Dagrick rarely got along. There was love there, but also tension. They competed for the attention of their parents. Dagrick was envious of Anni's talents, but she resented him for being the eldest and constantly being given authority and preference over her.

When their mother, Dathne, passed after a tragic fall while repairing storm damage on the roof of their home, the siblings' rivalry only got worse. Their need for approval from their father, Oran, led to endless confrontation. The stress on Oran certainly didn't help his health when he tried to resist a Defias incursion and took a severe beating for it. His injuries compounded with illness and eventually took his life as well. Dagrick took charge of the farm and Annibeth continued to maintain the harvesters, but the rift between brother and sister grew ever wider.

The day Jessalynne Triller reappeared, Anni sensed a change coming. She knew what had happened with the Stonemasons Guild, and that Jess's family had historical connections to the guild. Though wary, Annibeth agreed to come to a meeting the following night with Jessalynne. Held in a barn in Moonbrook, she was surprised how many familiar faces she saw there. Then he came out. Black hair, broad shoulders, a voice that demanded attention. Edwin VanCleef spoke with confidence, authority, and a fire that ignited her own frustrations with Stormwind. They were ignoring Westfall's plight, and had never truly appreciated how vital it was as the breadbasket of the kingdom. If not for Stormwind's apathy, her father might still be alive.

Weeks later, Annibeth tried to convince Dagrick to come to a meeting to hear VanCleef speak. When he realized she was talking about the very people that had been terrorizing Westfall and salting the earth, he was disgusted. He blamed them for their father's death, not Stormwind. In their argument, cruel things were said on both sides, and in the end she left.

Dagrick couldn't keep the farm going without Anni maintaining the harvesters. He tried for a while, but eventually he had no choice. He abandoned it and joined up with the newly formed People's Militia. Annibeth eventually did return to the Jansen homestead, claiming it as a Defias post and retooling the harvesters as security machines. With the homestead positioned so near the bridge to Elwynn Forest, it was a perfect place to spy on (and ambush) those coming and going between Westfall and Stormwind.

Early on, Annibeth felt like she'd found her place in the Brotherhood. Her mechanical skills were highly valuable, especially in sabotaging and reconfiguring harvesters around Westfall. She also specialized in making explosive devices, which earned her the nicknamed "Boom-Boom". But once the goblins were brought into the fold, suddenly she wasn't being called upon so much. She had to start answering to them, and was generally relegated to tasks that required none of her actual skills.

As the shine wore off, Anni slowly began to see what the Defias Brotherhood had become. The great vision VanCleef had spoken of had become diluted. The passion of revolution and change was buried under layers and layers of terror and self-serving criminality. Shame and guilt weighed her down, and she knew she had to get out.

Annibeth made her plans, and had everything in place. It was foolproof. She would have been able to just walk right out of the Deadmines and disappear without anyone noticing until she was long gone. There was just one thing she hadn't factored in…

…Cobalt Company.

The very day…the very hour she had planned to make her escape, the then-not-so-famous mercenaries assaulted the Deadmines. Her plan to stroll out became a scramble to flee in, constantly staying one step ahead of Cobalt Company and away from their wrath. Of course, neither did she warn any Defias about their presence, as disgusted as she had become with the Brotherhood. She was glad to see someone doing something about them; she just didn't want to be one of the people done something about.

Eventually she ended up on VanCleef's ship, where she managed to hide below deck. There she listened as, just above her head, Cobalt Company challenged Edwin VanCleef himself and took his head. Stunned, she remained hidden until the mercenaries were gone. When it was quiet, she sneaked out and made her escape.

SInce that day, Annibeth started working to make amends for her mistakes. She took any opportunity to act against the Defias in what meager ways she could, hoping the people of Westfall, and most of all her brother, would one day forgive her.

Relationships

Private Dagrick Jansen
Her brother puts on a proud face, but he's vulnerable underneath it. Like Anni, he just wants approval. He and Anni had a big falling out before parting ways, and it's her biggest regret. Now he's off serving in Northrend with the Westfall Brigade and she's afraid she'll never get a chance to tell him she's sorry.
Mayellen Mullby
May and Anni were childhood playmates, attending school together in Moonbrook. May left Westfall when they were about 10 and 11, leaving Anni saddened at the loss of one of her few friends. They've reconnected and their friendship is stronger than ever (even if Annibeth's incautious nature has a way of testing that bond).
Jessalynne Triller
A childhood friend whobecame a stonemason and recruited Annibeth into the Defias Brotherhood. Jessalynne has reinserted herself into Anni's life; but when Anni refused to rejoin the Defias, Jess became hostile and has made threats and started interfering with Annibeth's affairs.
Ionala
Nala is a priestess Anni met through Mayellen, but who has turned out to be a good and loyal friend herself. Ionala's calm demeanor is a soothing presence for Anni's more explosive personality.
Jonas
Anni was surprised, and a little concerned, to encounter another Hazan. But Jonas is nothing like his Westfall kin. He's proven himself a stalwart companion, but there is something reserved about him, like he's always holding something back that Anni can't quite place.
Sintha
Just a nice girl Anni met at Bruuk's who needed a screwdriver. A nice…very pretty girl…around whom Anni's tongue gets twisted an awful lot. But then Anni found out she's a noblewoman, and that has changed everything.
