- Healing of the Plaguelands: She is working together with Caspis and the druids in the Plaguelands, and may know people from there.
- Druid's shalan: She spends more time these days around the Cenarion Circle/Expedition, and may be known through there.
Appearance
As is common for the warriors of her people, Anareline is graceful, tall (6'8"), and lithe, with long, dark blue hair and inscrutable silver eyes. She has simple face tattoos arching down her face. One would have to ask her their meaning, and she would be unlikely to answer. Though she is over ten thousand years old, her appearance has changed little since she reached adulthood. Her voice is soft, and slightly lower-pitched than average.
Personality
Stubborn - Conscientious - Independent - Reticent
Anareline is incredibly old and has a tendency to be set in her ways. She carries a deep distrust of hierarchies, such as the military and nobility. She is accustomed to relying on herself, and she holds both herself and others to high standards. Though she is a fairly emotional person, she often holds that part of herself back when interacting with others, leading them to see her as somewhat cold and serious. In general, she is not very comfortable in social situations, and tends to prefer solitude to company.
Anareline is making an effort to be more open these days, and to question her own biases. She has had limited success, but her new flexibility has allowed her to attempt to build bridges where she failed before.
In theory, this character can be romanced.
Ana has already found her shalan, the mystical other half of her kaldorei soul, and because they also have a sexual relationship, she is in no deep need of further companionship or intimacy. Ana also has a long history of self-isolation, and can count the number of lovers she's had in her past millenia on one hand. Still, it is within the realm of possibility that attraction might strike and she might sleep with someone else, as long as her shalan knew and was fine with it. She is, however, unavailable for monogamous romance, except with Caspis.
History
Long, long ago, Anareline was a young soldier. She has only recently begun to talk, occasionally, about what happened to her during the War of the Ancients. When the demons began pouring into Kalimdor, Ana attempted to convince her older sister, who she deeply idolized, to defect with her. Her older sister would not listen and stayed loyal to the Queen. Ana defected alone and never saw her sister again. Around this time, she also helped evacuate children from the demon-infested city, and this is where she first met her shalan, Caspis. The two of them would not meet again for 10,000 years. After the war, she swore that she would never serve as a soldier in a formal military ever again.
She held to this for thousands of years, during which her life was largely quiet, sedentary, and domestic. She enjoyed studying the stars, and practiced combat for art and exercise rather than battle. She was fond of training young warriors, but she typically cut off ties with them when they ultimately went to join the Sentinals and/or fight in some war.
During this period, she fell in love with a druid named Cerelar Dawnshadow. She bore and raised a daughter and then son, Cellara and Celaven. Her relationship with Cerelar eventually fell apart, due partially to his secrecy about his work with the Circle, and partially to his indifference with regard to raising their children. Cerelar would go on to ingratiate himself with Fandral Staghelm, to find another mate, and to have another daughter, Florande.
As for Ana's children, she lost contact with her daughter after Cellara joined the Sentinels. They are only recently back in touch. Celaven, on the other hand, spent many years living by his mother's side. In recent years, he left to learn more about other lands and other peoples, primarily through working as a mercenary. He sent a constant stream of letters back to his self-isolated mother, sharing with her the wonder and joy of the world.
It was through Celaven that she reconnected with Caspis, now a druid of the Cenarion Circle. The two of them very quickly fell deeply in love, and began traveling all over Azeroth (and briefly Outland) together. It was through Caspis that Anareline was drawn into the search for they Scythe of Elune, which originated the worgen curse. Their team did not ultimately find the Scythe, but they learned much of the modern-day curse through the pursuit.
During this time, Anareline also started tentatively reaching out to her daughter, only to find her deep in grief over the death of her own shalan at Hyjal. Anareline slowly learns an important lesson about letting children be their own people, as well as the need to make herself a safe person for her daughter to love. It is a long road, but Anareline sought (and still seeks) to prove her intent through patience and persistence.
Caspis joined Cobalt Company prior to the Northrend campaign, and was selected to be on one of its forward squads. Anareline traveled as a freelance fighter with Caspis, his shan'do Imrolane, Celaven, and Celaven's half-sister Florande, to the Borean Tundra. Along the way, they meshed into a kind of family, and Anareline also became acquainted with many new non-kaldorei (Cobalt) friends throughout their hard days together. Once portals were established, she visited her daughter in Ashenvale regularly.
During the War Against the Nightmare, Anareline safeguarded her daughter Cellara, who was trapped in a nightmare. She answered Malfurion's call and joined Caspis in the Emerald Dream/Nightmare, where she fought until the trapped dreamers began to slay the living. She returned to the world of the waking to care for Cellara.
Not much later, Anareline concluded that she was not protecting herself by not joining Cobalt Company, as her heart lived in those who already had, such as Caspis, Cellara, Celaven, and Florande. After joining Cobalt, she fought both in Naxxramas and against Malygos, the mad aspect of the blue dragonflight.
After the death of the Lich King, Caspis and Anareline moved to the Western Plaguelands, where they worked to heal the land. This took time and patience, and was ultimately successful. Throughout this period, Celaven and Velrin once again became a couple, and Anareline came to consider Velrin as a part of their family as well.
Then, Caspis was called on again to fight in Mount Hyjal, and Anareline followed him back to Kalimdor. She now spends much of her time either with Caspis or fighting orcs in Ashenvale with Cellara, but (thanks to the magic of portals) she has also begun training human warriors at request.
Anareline was at the Fallon's gala when she heard the news about Theramore. She, Caspis and their family quickly moved to Feathermoon Stronghold before the blockade closed, to defend the kaldorei lands from the Horde.
Relationships
Caspis Silvershade
Her shalan, soulmate. He inspired love in a heart she thought had run cold, and light and change in a life she allowed to grow stagnant. They recently reunited after their separation during the War of the Ancients, and she intends to never lose him again, in this life or after. |
Celaven Evensong
Her younger son. They stayed in touch throughout the years, primarily due to Celaven's effort. Lately, they see one another most during war time — most recently in Northrend and at Hyjal. |
Larawen Rivenbark
Her elder daughter. Anareline allowed their bond to shatter over Larawen forging her own path. She now accepts that it will take time to form a new one, and is regularly helping with her patrols in Ashenvale to help it grow. |
Florande Wildbloom
Almost family, though they are not related. Her shalan's student, and also half-sibling to her own children, through their father. During the Northrend campaign, they spent time together and forged a kind of daughter-friend bond. |
Imrolane Palemoon
Chosen family. The shan'do of her shalan, and recently something like a mother to Ana. She knows a little now of Imrolane's past, and is part of her new pack. |
Sarandis Wildbloom
Another former partner of her ex-lover Cerelar. The two have more in common than they might think. |
Velrin Silverbloom
Celaven's girlfriend, a well-meaning but tempestuous young woman. Ana hopes she will not break his heart again. Also, Ana trained her mother in combat. |
Auralind Mistwalker
Bond-sister to her shalan Caspis, Anareline may not know Auralind well, but she respects her. They have worked together in Hyjal against the forces of Ragnaros and the Druids of the Flame. |
Alysson
A baffling young man she met in Zul'drak, and then fought together with at the Oculus. He might need someone to look after him long-term. |
Azizia
A somewhat abrasive and materialistic shaman, but she seems competent enough otherwise. Anareline investigated the Scythe of Elune with her, and she was in Caspis's squad. They spent some time together in Northrend. |
Benazan?
Caspis's squad leader for a while. They spoke in Zul'drak and found common ground. |
Colson Aspenwood
A human paladin she regards highly, and who was also a squadmate of her shalan. |
Fyrdriel
Ana has advised her regarding her relationship with Velrin. She was a little stern about it. |
Mordecai Aspenwood
Shy priest and partner of Colson, Ana thinks well of him. She appreciates his attempts to explain baffling human cultural practices. They have also fought together now in Naxxramas and against Malygos. |
Ralaea Westwind
They fought together in the Construct Quarter of Naxxramas and against Sapphiron. Now a student in combat. She needs a lot of work, but then humans do generally learn quickly. |
Sidhanei Ambersong
Ana remembers Sidhanei from before the War of the Ancients, and is troubled by her contact with Cellara. They have not seen each other in many thousands of years, and that particular memory likely only survives in Ana's mind. |
Almeiria Fey
A shadow priest she fought Sapphiron with, and who was in the final battle against the Nightmare. |
Auralind Mistwalker
She primarily knows her through Caspis, but respects her stern demeanor. They fought Malygos together. |
Cressidha Aspenwood
She was a squadmate of her shalan, sister to Colson. Anareline has fought at her side at the Oculus, in Naxxramas and against Malygos. A highly talented mage, but then none of us are perfect. |
Dane Atley
A reliable companion in combat. They originally bonded over slaying a demon lord together in the Blasted Lands, and fought together on many missions in Northrend. Also, Caspis's squad leader for a time, and Caspis calls him shan'var. |
Elohad Ference
One of the leaders of Cobalt that she does trust, despite his charisma. In the end, he was one of the interviewers when she decided to join. |
Elrissadel Shadowbloom
Her shalan's thero'shan, Ana would know her by sight but does not know her well. |
Etone Greennote
They fought together in the Construct Quarter of Naxxramas and against Sapphiron. |
Gwenivene Whittle
They fought together in the Construct Quarter of Naxxramas and against Sapphiron. She saw her die in the fight against Malygos |
Iphindra
She was there for the fall of Silverwind Refuge, fightinga against the orcs. |
Jenzelle
A shy, but friendly, human priest she investigated demonic influences with in the Blasted Lands. It seems many human priests are shy. |
Captain Sparkwire
Ana is skeptical of her leadership and does not understand her. However, she was present at Ana's Cobalt interview |
Kit
Investigated demonic influences in the Blasted Lands together. She seemed competent and friendly, level-headed. |
Linwel
A moonkin druid Ana fought demons with in the Blasted Lands. Ana is not bothered by their eccentricity and assumes they are an ally of Caspis. |
Nunuzac
Ana has respect for her as another extremely long-lived person, and who has proven useful as an elemental diplomat. They investigated a demon lord together in the Blasted Lands. |
Paluuva
A Cobalt lieutenant who helped oversee her interview. |
Roper
Ana knows he and his shrouded companion have interacted with her son. As long as Celaven remains unharmed, she will reluctantly keep her distance. They did fight together against Malygos and in the War Against the Nightmare. |
Vond Satterly
They fought together in the Construct Quarter of Naxxramas and against Sapphiron. |
Torvald
They investigated demon influences in the Blasted Lands together. Ana has no idea what to make of him. |
