Appearance
A lean, compactly-muscled young man of average height in his mid-to-late twenties, with long black hair and brown eyes nearly as dark as his hair. There's a persistent stillness to him, as though he's always trying to fade into the background of wherever he is; in a crowd, he's always at the fringe, in a room, he's always in the corner. His hands are the only restless thing about him: when they're not trapped in his pockets, they're in constant motion, fingers tapping or sketching small figures in the air, walking a coin (real or imagined) across his knuckles, compulsively fiddling with whatever he's holding.
He dresses in layers, all in fading shades of dusty black and grey. Though his clothes are shabby, they've been carefully mended and maintained. He smells of coffee and cloves, and if you stand close enough, you might catch an acrid whiff of gunpowder.
A battered-looking squirrel made of brass and tin, with bright gem-chip eyes, clicks along at his heels. When he's not in motion, it clambers in disjointed mechanical fashion onto his shoulder to perch. It occasionally makes soft ticking or wheezing noises, and flicks its tail or cocks its head in uncanny, sharper-than-lifelike fashion.
Personality

His manner with people is watchful and intense, but strangely stiff. He isn't unfriendly, but his strange reserve renders him almost affectless, flat of emotion.
His dispassion is not self-conscious, however: given an engineering puzzle to solve, or an architectural or cartographic question, he has no compunction about interrogating people, climbing over obstacles, wandering into places he shouldn't, and the like. He is blunt and forthright and has difficulty with emotional nuance. He has morals but they are limited and personal, often inscrutable to others.
History

Aly is the only child of a Stormwind Stonemason, Thomas Grey, who aided in the city's reconstruction after the war. Thomas was bankrupted when the nobles refused to pay for the city's rebuilding, and committed suicide, leaving young Alaril to his own devices. Alaril's devices are the sort made with clockwork and gunpowder.
He recently ended his affiliation with the Defias Brotherhood; their separation was not cordial.
