Appearance
Sylvie is a short and slight human woman in her late twenties, with dark brown hair and eyes. With no combat experience, she has little physical strength and her hands are as soft as a noblewoman’s. She might not have been terrible noble-marriage-bait, but she has a certain uncomfortable energy about her, like a tightly coiled spring. She is well-trained to handle a variety of social and business situations, but she often has a hard time disguising the impatience and frustration in her eyes.
Personality
Ambitious ⬥ Selfish ⬥ Competent ⬥ Untrusting
Sylvie is loyal first and foremost to herself, and is distrustful of the intentions of others. She is skilled at negotiation and all the bookkeeping and organizational skills needed for running a trading company. She also has the coldness and force of personality needed to handle the more profitable black-market side of the family business. She is constantly haunted by the feeling that she could be more than she is, and this frustration sometimes leads her to lash out at people nearest to her.
Backstory
Sylvie is the middle child and only daughter of the wealthy Sullivan merchant family. She was originally intended to marry the family into nobility while her older brother Simon inherited the company, but her parents were unsuccessful at securing a noble match for her. Their hopes for this kind of union eventually shifted to her younger brother Sil.
As she entered her twenties, her parents finally appreciated her for her sharp mind and ruthlessness, in comparison to her easygoing older brother Simon. The new plan that evolved would be that she and Simon would jointly inherit the family business, with Simon handling most of the above-board business while she handled the smuggling and black market side. This proved a successful strategy, and Simon and Sylvie’s parents stepped down to allow their children to continue to grow the business.
All went well, until Sylvie became convinced, due to a series of convincing circumstantial clues, that her estranged little brother Sil was out to uncover the Sullivan family secrets. After ascertaining that he’d become a deadly sellsword with many allies, she and Simon dared not try to obstruct his work directly. They hired a Kaldorei bounty hunter (Sidhanei) to isolate and capture him, but stopped short of assassination. Sylvie clearly intended to stop Sil for good, but did not manage to work herself up to murder before he was rescued by Ben and Ismene.
In the course of the rescue, a smuggling deal Sylvie had set up to transport plague from Eastern Kingdoms to Kalimdor was uncovered, and Sylvie was arrested. The Sullivan family laid the blame of this crime on her name alone, and abandoned her to imprisonment in Booty Bay. This would have been the end, but one of Sylvie’s undead business allies contrived to smuggle her out of prison and up to Tirisfal. It was at this point that she officially turned traitor against the Alliance, and began her new career as a Horde agent.
Sylvie, at least in her guise as Sophie Hagstrom, was last seen near the Stormwind Harbor, just before the cataclysmic tidal wave came in.
