Unlike many of her netherwing kin, Amethyraku was not born into slavery under the yoke of the Dragonmaw orc clan. As a whelpling she lived free with her kind in the Blade's Edge Mountains. But a Dragonmaw raiding party captured her along with many of her brothers and sisters, and dozens of eggs.
Amethyraku did not take well to enslavement, resisting her captors at every opportunity. She suffered heavily at their hands for her independence. But even she could see that their patience would wear out, and if she could not be tamed, she would be killed. So she learned to play along, looking for opportunities to sabotage her masters or escape. After many failed attempts, her best opportunity appeared in the form of a young human sorceress.
Gwenivene was not obviously human when she first appeared on Netherwing Ledge, wearing an illusion to fool the fel orcs into believing she was one of them. Amethyraku noticed the strange behavior of this orc, though, and watched her closely. At last, the time came when she saw her illusion falter, just for a moment. The young drake risked contacting Gwenivene telepathically, and found a soul of such brightness and compassion it nearly broke her heart.
Together, Gwen and Amey plotted an escape. They could not rescue all of the enslaved netherwings, but even a handful could mean hope for the future of their species. As Gwen created a distraction by challenging the orcs' top rider to a race, Amey gathered as many of her kind as she could. Amid the confusion and chaos caused by Gwenivene's victory, they launched their escape, bolstered by one another's courage. Gwenivene, riding on Amethyraku's back, she was able to fight off the attacking Dragonmaw long enough for eleven drakes to flee.
Since then, Amey asked to remain with Gwenivene, feeling both a debt of gratitude and a desire for her companionship.
Relationships
| Gwenivene Amethyraku has formed a psychic bond with Gwenivene, and the two are now like sisters. Amey is fiercely loyal to Gwen, and considers her one of the only non-netherwing she can trust. |
